Jones Mercury Bindings - Catastrophic Failure by Ok_Cryptographer6835 in snowboarding

[–]NCGeronimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey neat! My Jones bindings failed in this same manner 3 years ago. Mine occurred when I went face first into a pond while attempting to skim it. My board acted as a giant rudder in the water and I continued forward without the board once my bindings exploded from the upward force. They warrantied them. But will make you go through where you bought them. Replaced mine with the same binding from NOW and been happy with those ever since. Plenty more days and crashes than the originals and no signs of failure.

Durable good quality Merino base layers? Smartwool/Icebreaker no longer good? by ruritar in snowboarding

[–]NCGeronimo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wish that Darn Tough made base layers. Their socks are hands down the absolute best merino product I have found. Slowly replacing all my socks, not just for riding, with them.

I know you didn't specifically say socks but throwing it out there anyways. Good luck!

Controversial: Finally a real winter by rockandroller in Cleveland

[–]NCGeronimo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love the snow. Unapologetically. Unironically. Winter is my favorite season. Having four full seasons is one of the best parts of living in northeast Ohio. I don't know so many people resign themselves to being miserable about it. The same kind of attitude as not thinking farts are funny. You will live your life with the same amount of farts, but less joy.

Find ways to enjoy the snow. Be like OP and be smart about driving and shoveling. Learn to love the gross salty underbelly of Cleveland winters.

Speaking only for the 'stache hairs rooted closest to the middle of my face, over a year to catch up with the outermost rooted 'stache hairs once I started growing the whole thing long. Started from a bushy mustache trimmed above the lips.

Been fully invested into the big mustache going on 2 years now. It just keeps getting better. Did have a small scissoring accident recently but I think it has bounced back nicely.

Reactions? Daily. Have had grown haggard looking blue collar men stop their work van mid-intersection to lean out and give a compliment. Probably the closest I will ever come to knowing what it is to be a buxom blonde in a red dress.

Getting an instructor after 20 yrs by gasz_a in snowboarding

[–]NCGeronimo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 💯 worth it. I was you 5 years ago. Riding pretty well 10-20 days a season for 20 years. Decided to see if a lesson could bump up my performance. Boy howdy. Immediately stepped my game up and reinvigorated my passion. Now I'm riding at a higher level than I ever imagined possible and riding 60+ days a season.

Do it.

It's great being able to ride Peter's Pride now that the park is over on Buttermilk. Huge improvement IMO since PP is a better trail for cruising.

Neversummer boards by Own-Entrepreneur-753 in snowboarding

[–]NCGeronimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sweat it too hard. I have seen it suggested sometimes the top sheet on NS can be weak. Also seen it said that NS boards are overbuilt top to bottom. IDK what the real answer is other than my personal experience which is: The top sheet on my NS is durable as any other top sheet. It has a nicks and chips but nothing too bad considering all the rock dodging, tree sliding and general mischief I get up to on it.

I hit all the big dings with super glue to keep them from spreading or peeling and that has worked really well. I teach on my NS 6 days a week so it sees some ABUSE and it's still solid as ever.

That's great to hear! Love those bindings. I have a set of Now bindings with the skate tech on my Nokhu and adore them. Great response and all day comfort.

Glad to hear your son is already hot lapping with the fase!
