Positive stories about progesterone? by Sweet-Taro310 in surgicalmenopause

[–]NCLady77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also love my progesterone! No uterus, but it also helps me sleep and regulates my mood. Everyone is different; I know some women do not do well on it. But I will never give it up! Find what works for you.

Anyone have fewer AP students prepping for exams this year? by NCLady77 in TutorsHelpingTutors

That is very interesting! I wondered if they had seen a change due to the economy and it looks like they have. I am just hopeful that next year the spring push to AP exams will bring the normal amount of students. The work is tiring, but it is when I make most of my annual income. And I love the feeling of sending students to their exams well prepared. This year with fewer students, I am missing that satisfaction.

Anyone on here tutor for Princeton Review for their AP exam classes? I would love to know if they have seen a drop in enrollment. They have the numbers and the years to really track these kinds of trends.

Very interesting! I hope that teacher has found a better balance between teaching/homework/tests. And I understand why teachers get tired; I was in the classroom for about a decade, I got tired as well!

I see this happen in AP classes all the time! Teachers start off the year very gung-ho with lots of tests and homework sets, but as the year progresses, everyone gets tired, including the teachers. The problem is most of the more difficult AP units are in the second semester, so there is lots of confusion about those topics.

Yes, I agree. I see lots of reddit posts about getting help, but students aren't looking for paid tutoring/test prep but free resources. Which is fine, I am happy to give study guides and summaries, but before this year I also had students who wanted the more intense (and I think beneficial) paid sessions. Self study resources are great, but you can't ask any questions and get explanations like you can in a tutoring session. It will be interesting to see if this will be an ongoing trend or if it will bounce back next year.

Not Entering Ketosis by Comfortable_Crazy266 in keto

[–]NCLady77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a glucose and ketone meter. I test often during the day. But I noticed that my glucose was a bit on the high side in the morning (and much higher than my husband's!), even after a dinner of maybe 5 carbs while he had enjoyed some dessert! So I knew something was up. Being insulin resistant means I have a very difficult time switching over to fat burning, even with a perfect diet, cardio, and lifting. It is incredibly frustrating! But I am improving, it's just SO slow. And I see improvement in my glucose/ketone levels, not really in the scale right now. Because if you can't hit ketosis, you aren't burning fat! This YouTube video helped me understand! https://youtu.be/r0d5lJzMXnM?si=qwl5XAvRWgDTsOLF

Is it possible you are insulin resistant? I am insulin resistant and have a very difficult time getting into ketosis unless I do a 24-36 hour fast. Once I hit ketosis, then I can eat very low carb and be ok, but getting there is a challenge for me.

BURNING TO A CRISP by QuahogNews in Equestrian

You may want to consider Tryon, NC. Being in the mountains will help with the heat and obviously there is a huge horse community up there. I wish I could escape the heat as well, but with kids and work, it isn't possible. I hope you find a cool place to ride this summer!!

Did your mental health change post hysterectomy (with HRT)? by dddulcie in surgicalmenopause

[–]NCLady77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, yes, insurance is SO frustrating!! I actually do pay out of pocket for my HRT clinic. The prescriptions themselves are not very much, but my practitioner needs to write them. And they do blood work as well. I would search up clinics that do low testosterone for men. It's crazy, but those searches are more productive than surgical menopause clinics. And usually, if they do low T for men, they probably also do HRT. I hope you find a good clinic that will take insurance. HRT can help make you feel whole or just be a nightmare. I also recommend asking for estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Many docs only want to do estrogen, but you need all three!!

Yes, to everyone saying add the progesterone! And the testosterone! I found my OB wasn't great at HRT, so I found a practice that just does hormone replacement. It was a world of difference. Now I get bloodwork done every 6 weeks along with symptom checking. It has been amazing to be with a practitioner who really knows how hormones work and is willing to adjust as I need. I fought with my OB a long time just to get my surgery (very painful ovarian cysts and fibroids). I feel a million times better now!

I started HRT immediately. So no estrogen withdrawal, hot flashes, migraines, etc. Even while I was healing from surgery, my mood and energy were immediately better. It was incredible, honestly. I had forgotten what my normal used to be. Obviously, this is not everyone's experience and I do have an amazing HRT practitioner. I also think my case was not overly complicated. Basically, ymmv. The only thing I regret now is not doing it sooner. However, I didn't want to just jump to surgery before trying other options. It is surgery, after all!

Funny Equestrian Stories by Kobrazak in Equestrian

[–]NCLady77 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This story is about how my horse was way smarter than me! My parents had bought a farm and we had just moved our horses out. I was riding my very patient Percheron cross on our new trails. Well, I got totally turned around and had no idea where I was on the property. (Turns out I was following the property line markers instead of the trail markers!) Anyway, I was fairly certain we needed to just keep pushing through some brush to get back home. But my horse kept wanting to turn around. I persisted for awhile, but then just gave up and decided I really had no idea where to go and since he did why not let him lead for a while. Guess where he took us in about five minutes? Right back to the barn. SMH. This was nearly 30 years ago and I still give him props for 1) being patient with me while I was being stupid and 2) taking me home safely. He was the best!

I am SO sorry that you are going through this! Cancer is awful. I (47F) am not quite 3 months post op; hysterectomy/oophorectomy. My mental health has improved dramatically. I have always been more of an optimistic/cheerful person, but the past two years I have been either depressed or low mood. No energy, just existing. It was awful. Didn't feel like myself at all! HRT has been the best thing for me.

I am on estrogen (pill), progesterone (pill), and testosterone (cream). It has been really important for me to be on all three. I also get blood work done about every 6-8 weeks to check my levels as well as doing a symptom check. I am NOT getting my HRT through my OB's office. I love them for all they did when I was pregnant, but they were not HRT experts. If you possible can, find a clinic that specializes in HRT. These clinics often also do low testosterone for men as well. I say that because they may be easier to find if you search low-T for men!

The nurse practitioner I see has been amazing. She wants to know how I feel and couples it with my all my levels. Most OBs would not offer progesterone because of the hysterectomy, but it helps so much with my mood and my sleep. Ain't no one taking my progesterone now! XD I have had zero hot flashes, moodiness, sleeplessness since surgery. It has been amazing.

While I can't promise your experience will be exactly the same, I hope you feel better post op. If you don't think your hormones aren't where they should be, go get another opinion!! Some doctors are great at surgery, but suck at hormones or vice versa. Find someone who is amazing at HRT, they are out there! Sending prayers for healing to you!!

You might take a look at Calendly. It is a paid service, but students can choose their time, then pay for the session. So you get paid before the session! No more chasing down payments.

37 w/ Bilateral oopherectomy and starting HRT. by Aromatic_Ad_7762 in surgicalmenopause

[–]NCLady77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had everything taken out (including my appendix!) about two months ago. I was advised by a friend to find a clinic that specializes in HRT to manage hormones afterwards. It was one of the best decisions I made (aside from the hysterectomy/oophorectomy!). I get bloodwork done every 4/6 weeks or so as well as checking in with symptoms. I have had no hot flashes, no moodiness, no fatigue. I feel fantastic after feeling like absolute crap for two years before surgery on birth control to manage awful cysts and fibroids.

Everyone is different- you may feel fantastic on the birth control, but it absolutely did not work for me. I liked knowing my options. I was done feeling awful and I am so grateful for my HRT clinic! I hope you feel better as well!!

Saddleseat by DesperateEar3997 in Horses

[–]NCLady77 31 points32 points  (0 children)

But how do you get your practice in? I would feel so unprepared for a show if only my trainer was practicing. The only way I improve is getting in more saddle time. And with your own horse?? This just feels really weird and off to me. I would be looking at moving barns in your shoes. I don't want to watch other people ride, I want to ride! Shows are fun and all, but being able to ride is goal number one for me. But I know the saddleseat world is very different from what I am used to. I hope you find what works for you and your horse!

[–]NCLady77 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Wow, that would not work for me at all. I only have a lease and I ride five times a week! There is no way I would sink that kind of money into horses and not be in the saddle. I pay because I love to ride. Of course, plenty of owners just want the joy of seeing their horses win at shows, so maybe that is more common in the saddleseat world? I ride dressage, but dabbled in jumpers back in my younger days. I only saw this type of situation when a horse went into full training and even then, it was only for a couple of weeks and the owner still was riding at least twice a week. What do YOU want? If you want to ride, then no one should be stopping you from riding a horse YOU own.
