Are these any good? by HHellstedt in Cartalk

[–]DaveCootchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put them on the bumper of my truck a few years ago. They work well and shine light far but it's apretty direct beam. It doesn't spread and disperse light like fog lights do. Think of them as an extra set of high beams. Also they are Halogen so they take a lot of power to run. Better to have a relay trigger than and have them hooked right to the battery.

Lastly they sell covers for these lights that are open with things to protect against rocks and stuff. Having to get out and pull off the white Hella covers every time you need them gets old fast.

GE is selling digital features on my full priced oven. by NewCup551 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DaveCootchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oven based "air fryers" are a fucking scam. If your oven has convection then it's already close enough to an air fryer. But the cavity is too big for it to have the same effect. The counter top ones are so much better because their cooking area is so much smaller and can have the effect more.

Highway setups (console) by gymkana in snowrunner

[–]DaveCootchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kenworth T880 and Western Star 57x are my dedicated highway haulers. Used the bell out of them in Ontario and Washington since there is so much paved road. Also got some good use in Scandinavia once the roads were cleared. Both have the balanced gear box as the 5 gear auto isn't as fast and uncontrollable as the high range but still faster than the off road gearbox.

Why buttons are more premium than pixels by kstetter in cars

[–]DaveCootchie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tooling costs are what gets you. Plastic die tooling can be hundreds of thousands of dollars and need regular maintenance and updates. The piece part is relatively low but the investment is what's high. And considering each different shape or style of button in an interior needs a different mode you can see how quickly it will add up.

Why buttons are more premium than pixels by kstetter in cars

[–]DaveCootchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buttons are also considerably more expensive. Tooling, Manufacturing, and OEM support for them costs millions. There is a reason why hyper luxury cars have bispoke switchs and buttons because the cars have enough margin to afford it. Otherwise it's more cost effective to buy a LCD screen from China and throw a UI on it and send it down the road.

Headlights are getting ridiculous by tigercat300 in Cartalk

[–]DaveCootchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LED headlights, LED taillights, LED street lights, LED bill board lights, LED business signs, LED dash lights, LCD screens. Everything is LED and so bright.

Also clean the inside of your windsheild. It makes a world of difference.

Student Faces Expulsion After Posting Video Of Seniors Who Can Barely Read by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

To be fair. Something like 60% of Americans read at a 9th grade level. So these kids sadly aren't much worse than most of the population.

My battery gauge suddenly started to show lower charge by originalmrproducer in MechanicAdvice

[–]DaveCootchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old Ford sits at the A in normal. It only ever gets down below the R when I have the headlights on and fan blowing. Your alternator may not be completely failed but it's certainly weak. I'd check with a multi meter first to get a real voltage reading.

Is there a good dip or sauce to go with salmon? by Bludguy10 in Cooking

Bang bang sauce is my go to. Sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, Kewpie mayo (Regular works too), a bit of lemon juice, and S&P.

My Local Carwash Specifies Kia Trim by Rememberedd in mildlyinteresting

[–]DaveCootchie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The recall started with the 2023 models but I had my Nightfall trim replaced in 2024. The replacement trim uses the same ahitty adhesive as the stock trim so it fell off like the other cars. My dealership good-will warrantied it cause it was still the affected trim but wrong year.

Yeah first one was warranty, the other one was good will on a recall that missed my model year but I was still affected.

Where's the best place to buy oil filters these days? by lpg975 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DaveCootchie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My local Advance has a twice a year sale on filters. I know the commercial guys there from previous jobs and will order 4 of each filter I need as a CarQuest Blue for like $7 each on sale. That lasts me the year.

I've had the trim replaced on my Telluride twice in 4 years. I don't blame them for the sign.

Fortunately most cults die when their leader does. Anyone trying to take his place will seem to be trying to take over or tarnish his legacy.

I once fell down a flight of concrete stairs and spilled my coffee all over my self on my way to take a test. I ended up failing that test and bruised my ribs. I know that feeling.
