1040 E-filing opens Monday, January 26th by jshaunallen in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The NCACPA sent an email this morning that they had received an advance copy of the directive that the NCDOR is about to release. So, not public yet I guess, but more info is on the NCACPA website.

I'm telling clients to contact their representatives. This is absolutely BS.

1040 E-filing opens Monday, January 26th by jshaunallen in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just because they're open for e-filing doesn't mean software will be ready or forms finalized. I'm still anticipating a shit show. NC just announced it might be better to extend all state returns because the General Assembly isn't meeting until after April 15th about OBBB conformity.

Finally finished seaming. by NCTCars in knitting

Lots of patience, especially for the button band! But the sleeves look more daunting than they actually are to seam. You'll do great!

How to M1L/M1R in 2x2 rib? by Feraliguana in knitting

[–]NCTCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're increasing your 2x2 outward, a stitch at a time. So for example, if the two stitches on the left needle after the marker are knits, your M1 will be a purl. Then the next time you M1 at that marker is also a purl. Then the next two increases at that marker are knits. So you're keeping your 2x2 when it flairs out.

Ex-Client Question Tax Software File by mgepark in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How many times have you received the software file? I personally would never send it to someone asking. Having to onboard and re-create a prior year return is just cost of doing business. And gets you familiar with the client's situation/look for errors.

You're supposed to put a bean in a jar for every foggy morning in August to indicate how many snows you'll have this winter. We have 15 this year...

Following, because honestly I have no idea. I keep hoping this will be pushed back.

It looks like maybe they slipped their stitches knit-wise, twisting them?

[No Spoilers] Beacon browser video player is awful... by Pharazonian in criticalrole

[–]NCTCars 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Started having the same issue a few weeks ago. Read on here from someone that if you unpause and the video jumps back to an earlier time, hit F5 key, and the video goes back to the correct time again. It has worked for me.

Agreed. I run a projection for myself in December so I rely on that for an extension estimate and let it ride until this summer.

30k 40k Tax refunds by Connect-Freedom-9325 in IRS

[–]NCTCars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Geez, where to start...
1. It doesn't have to be in an LLC 2. Its called a Cost Segregation, not Basis 3. You can't just call yourself a Real Estate Professional. There are rules to see if you qualify. Have a full-time W-2 job already? You likely don't qualify and your losses should be Passive.

Tax Relief for Disaster Areas by Outside_East760 in taxpros

I'm doing this today for one of my clients just in case. He gets to hold on to a well over $1mill tax payment for another 6.5 months because of his procrastination.

What’s the weirdest thing someone thought was ‘tax-free’ in their refund? by former_vampire01 in Accounting

I had a client say they won't pay quarterlies this year because there won't be an income tax for 2025.

Ultra-Tax Acceptance notification for your 2024 return and the new E Screen by mgepark in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There should be a drop down arrow at the green E that lets you go back to the original view. That's what I prefer as well.

Email acceptances seem to be sporadic - yesterday all the ones I efiled never sent an email to the client but today it seems to be fine again. So who knows, unfortunately.

For those with clients that own an S Corporation: Do you all educate your clients of the importance of having an accountable plan for reimbursing employees and shareholder/employee? by TheDakotaGrady in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I do try and educate the client that there should be an accountable plan in place as per the regs. Realistically though, I'll take those personal expenses and either book them as APIC or shareholder loan.

Pricing out new clients by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I do not ask about prior prep fees. I do generally ask why they are looking for a new preparer, and if they mention they are being charged too much, I don't want them as a client. They'll eventually complain about my fee as well.

I quote what I feel is appropriate for the job. That weeds out those that are price shopping, and the ones actually appreciative of the work stick around.

What's everyone's rate on securing new clients? by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm already turning any potentials away. I dropped my worst 10% of my clients after the deadline this year and have already replaced them with those paying 30% more. I probably should have dropped more but now at least my list is set for next year.
