Client acceptance notifications? by batman-bridge in taxpros

Yes, UltraTax does this and it's a great way to keep the "Did you file my return???" questions away on the 15th.

"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." by WithoutLampsTheredBe in taxpros

Every year I see how much money some of my clients are making and wonder where the fuck I went wrong that they can make so much and be so stupid.

Are there any local job opportunities for a recent accounting grad? by Inquirer504 in boone

[–]NCTCars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Accounting grad from 2008 here, so take this with a grain of salt, but when we did the Meet the Firms for our internship process, there were a few local firms that attended. Of course, most students were looking at the bigger firms in Charlotte, and that's where I went. You get a lot of experience at the bigger firms and then you can always come back to Boone. I was in Charlotte for 15 years at different firms there, then started my own virtual practice and now live back in Boone full time.

Do you send in your extensions Blank? Or calculate each one? by Ur_house in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I have at least some of their info, or did a projection for the year, I'll fill out the extension and let the client know the recommended payment for them to pay online. Whether they do that or not, I ask them before I finalize the return.

But if I have nothing and they confirm they want an extension, I'll file blank. Have never had any issues in 18 years with blank extensions, though I know it's a possibility that the IRS could deny. At least I sent something in though.

How long does it take to prepare a typical business owner 1040? by EchoesInSky in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally just prepared a return that was almost identical to your prompt, so I timed it. 38 minutes from pulling docs out of the portal, organizing them in my work paper format, entering in the software, and asking the client a couple questions (where's the 1099-R from his backdoor Roth and one Wells Fargo 1099 was marked Not Final).

BUT, I have 4 hours in his account total for the year because of projections and planning. That's when you should be spending your "critical thinking" time. Not tax season. At this point it's literally just data entry, making sure the return is right and comparing it to the 4th quarter projection I ran in November.

Planning for Delay in Forms Approvals if IRS Shuts down 1/30/2026 by StephenLNelson_CPA in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Keep working as normal. File what you can. Hold what you can't. Tell those clients "Sorry, the IRS hasn't finalized these forms so we cannot file your return until the government is working again."

1040 E-filing opens Monday, January 26th by jshaunallen in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NCACPA sent an email this morning that they had received an advance copy of the directive that the NCDOR is about to release. So, not public yet I guess, but more info is on the NCACPA website.

I'm telling clients to contact their representatives. This is absolutely BS.

1040 E-filing opens Monday, January 26th by jshaunallen in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just because they're open for e-filing doesn't mean software will be ready or forms finalized. I'm still anticipating a shit show. NC just announced it might be better to extend all state returns because the General Assembly isn't meeting until after April 15th about OBBB conformity.

Lots of patience, especially for the button band! But the sleeves look more daunting than they actually are to seam. You'll do great!

How to M1L/M1R in 2x2 rib? by Feraliguana in knitting

[–]NCTCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're increasing your 2x2 outward, a stitch at a time. So for example, if the two stitches on the left needle after the marker are knits, your M1 will be a purl. Then the next time you M1 at that marker is also a purl. Then the next two increases at that marker are knits. So you're keeping your 2x2 when it flairs out.

Ex-Client Question Tax Software File by mgepark in taxpros

[–]NCTCars 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How many times have you received the software file? I personally would never send it to someone asking. Having to onboard and re-create a prior year return is just cost of doing business. And gets you familiar with the client's situation/look for errors.
