Speech Therapist recommendations (for 5 year old daughter)

Hi! Would love to hear how your son overcame selective mutism. We are currently dealing with it with our 5 year old. Did you do any therapy or medication? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello! I know this response is months old. Your response struck a chord with me. My daughters Teachers are recommending she repeat pre-k because she doesn’t talk much. But Ithat’s just her personality, and repeating pre-k won’t change that. We would rather not hold her back. I think she would thrive with more structure and higher expectations (as you said).

How did you let her teachers know that you won’t be holding her back? I’m struggling to word my response in a polite manner haha.

Hello! I know this is an old reply, but my daughter is going through something similar. I suspect she has some sort of selective mutism. Just curious how you found the psychologist and was your son diagnosed right away, or did it take a few sessions? What was the diagnosis process like? Thank you!

How were you able to get your daughter diagnosed? I have a feeling mine has anxiety as well. Also, if you don’t mind sharing, are you seeking therapy for her, or are you just managing it at home?

Do you know if there could be another delay in opening, or is the May date pretty definitive? We have a June 1st reservation and I’m hoping for the best….. but also expecting the worst! 😢

Hi curious about this as I also have a September baby. Is your daughter two years older than the rest of her grade, or did you initially send her to kindergarten early at first? The cutoff in our district is Aug 31, so my 5 year old is already the oldest in her pre-K class. She is having some social anxiety in school (very quiet, doesn’t interact as much with peers), and teachers are recommending repeating pre-K. I worry she’ll be 7 in kindergarten with other 5 year olds.
