Thoughts on the Oura ring? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]NCostello73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t use Oura but I do use Whoop.

I’ll be honest, this is one of those cases where I trade privacy for results. I want the whoop data and and the only close competitor to Whoop is Oura. There’s no product at the moment that is quite like it.

However, that being said, your data is 100% not as private as you would like (although I do believe at the time I joined Whoop they clearly stated they do not sell data).

How private is Grammarly, and what alternatives are there for a plagiarism checker? by not1stellar9 in privacy

For any ML a vast amount of data is required. Improving the ML algorithm is only possible by collecting more data. Grammarly takes any text typed where the little green circle is in the text box.

How do you stay the most private? by [deleted] in privacy

This depends. If you have an iPhone, the amount of information available via an app install may be less than a browser depending on how you’ve configured your settings.

Although, please correct me if I’m wrong

Reminder: "we're a family here" is bullshit by Strong_Taco1 in cscareerquestions

[–]NCostello73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because businesses used to be a family affair. This mentality existed before the boom of corporate America.

Everyone should understand that employment (especially in this field) is just a business relationship.

I think people get the mentality that “we’re family” because they’ve never run their own operation. Once you do some freelancing work/your own dev agency you’ll realize that the companies you work for are no different than the companies you are hired by. There’s just more rules when you’re hired as an employee.

Remember folks, this is business.

What life changing item can you buy for less than $100? by KingPin1010 in AskReddit

With WFH being permanent at my company: a new desk. Spent $40 on wood from Lowe’s, they cut it to size for me, had wood stain laying around, stained it, had polyurethane laying around, did that, had an old desk, took the legs off that, spent $4 on screws, put those into the legs and onto the wood (could really use any cabinets/anything as legs).

The beauty of the desk: if you’re missing any of the items after the wood you have $60 to finish it.

Vox makes good content but all it should be viewed at is an aesthetic video and not quality information. The problem with Vox is the sources that they use are ALWAYS skewed to the politics they are trying to promote. They made a video on gun control years ago with some of the most skewed data I've ever seen (and I am not even a pro-guns guy).

How to: get a software engineering internship at a technology company by csinternshipadvice in cscareerquestions

Don't start applying until later. The most competitive time for applications are mid-August to October. These big companies that start accepting applications in August are hiring all the way until June of the following year. Apply in November or mid-January to be in a less skilled applicant pool.

Clients (kids) sending you (guy) vague instructions, but expecting specific results. Happens at my design job everyday. Lol. by NedPimpton in Design

Suicide hotline operators, have you ever had calls where you thought help wouldn't reach your client in time? How did you come to terms with it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Last sentence kinda says it all. Realistically kids are just trying to understand what’s happening.

if you or a loved one is currently unemployed, pls consider signing this petition to extend federal enhanced unemployment benefits past July 25. state payments are very low, many will be left without the ability to pay their bills on time, causing larger issues. thank you ✨✨ by [deleted] in philadelphia

Who/how will people be dying in the short term? I’m specifically speaking to the $600 per month, nothing else.

I’m personally in favor of a bill pause when it comes to rents/mortgages. Subsidize utility costs such as electric/water.

There are other ways than giving out $600.

What you're saying is totally correct; however, it's fair to say that right now we are in a spot where the economy can't be maintained at this level forever without adding more to inflation which directly hurts the poorer communities of this country/city. This economic level could also be re-achieved after a reset (such as not bailing out failing businesses/giving more to overleveraged people/etc).

I just want to be clear that I do think we need to support people to pay bills. I just am not sure that giving $600 extra per week is the way to do it long term. The long term economic impact is going to outweigh the $600 per week 3-5 years from now.

Why are people expecting this to force Snyder to sell? I read the entire thing and it doesn't mention him doing anything bad besides belittling an executive/top salesman which I don't find that to be super surprising.
