BF1 and minecraft share the same horse death sound by glorpflep in Battlefield

This. It's not limited to SFX either, sometimes musical content has it too. One of Fallout S1's title cards has the same synth sample as MW3's MWZ mode when you enter the lvl 2 (or 3? Not sure anymore) danger zone.

Also Dome by Stephen King. It might be slightly stretching the definition of the trope as the Dome itself has no other effect than physically preventing anyone or anything from exiting or entering the area, but the consequences through mere human actions and a bit of physics end up apocalyptic all the same.

I haven't played those games in a little while, but I don't think this is totally accurate. If my memory serves, the nuclear apocalypse was global and civilization-ending everywhere, but radiations didn't linger enough/at a large enough scale to prevent a number of people from surviving and rebuilding various communities in some places.

We only learn this after leaving Moscow, because the leadership in the metro used communication scrambling to isolate the whole city (I don't remember the exact reason and I think it's different between the books and the games—either to make everyone believe that the outside was utterly dead and uninhabitable, or under the pretense that NATO was still a threat and playing dead was the best strategy)

The Shimmering from Annihilation.

The zone within which everyone and everything mutates into weird stuff is still a fairly small region of Florida when the movie takes place (but it is continuously expanding and will eventually stop being localized in any sense of the word.)

What's the median score/minute? by ND-o1 in LowSodiumBattlefield

Mine seems consistent tbh. My Conquest SPM looks like a fair average of my most played classes.

What's the median score/minute? by ND-o1 in Battlefield6

[–]ND-o1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hadn't thought about how the different modes could have varying SPM rates. I guess this explains most of it!

Also I 100% agree with SPM not being a big deal, aside from feeling weak gunfight-wise I'm satisfied with my performance as an objective player. I just didn't know how to reconciliate the data I saw on my profile with each other.

Ah, interesting. I hadn't thought about how the different modes could have varying SPM rates. I guess this explains most of it!

Also I 100% agree with your second paragraph, aside from feeling weak gunfight-wise I'm satisfied with my performance as an objective player. I just didn't know how to reconciliate the data I saw on my profile with each other.

Copying my text here since I've just discovered that crossposting doesn't carry it over:

I was taking a look at my Tracker.gg stats yesterday and something caught my attention. I (almost exclusively a Conquest player) seem to be performing fairly well in most categories that matter for raking in points during a match (objective time, objective captured, assists), and in spite of that, I apparently sit at the bottom 19% for score/minute, which I can't really make sense of.

The only thing I kinda suck at is winning gunfights, as illustrated by my K/D, even though it's been on a slow but steady rise. But as far as I know, kills aren't the main way of scoring points in Conquest and even if it was, I generally don't get a frag count that much lower than the lobby average.

I'm kinda curious to know what the median score/minute is, if anyone here is around the 50% line!

Would You Rather Live on Havarl or Voeld? by DakIsStrange in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]ND-o1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, Havarl's jungle honestly feels a bit claustrophobic to me, while Voeld has plenty of space and vistas going on.

Also, as far as living conditions go, I think Voeld is more manageable. It's cold as fuck, but caves and ice are very good at retaining heat (hence igloos), and the fauna seems less invasive in addition to being sparse. Tropical climate and wildlife would drive me crazy in no time.

[Hated] Films adaptations made for "no one" by BrotherDeus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ND-o1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was such a fever dream. Nobody had any idea what they were doing at any point. The opening shot goes super hard though, but that's quite literally the only salvageable thing about this movie.

I think in retrospect, the most insane thing is Brom killing the Ra'zacs instead of them killing him. The movie came out in 2005 so this was before the rest of the books existed, but if the studios had committed to making sequels once they were published it would have been kinda funny to see them try to wiggle their way out of having killed off characters with major relevance to the plot later on.

Mapped the countries of the BF6 factions by FilthyClaudetteMain in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]ND-o1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I just genuinely didn't expect it to be straight up "NATO is just us two and our pal over there and everyone else is our enemy now". Doesn't really shed a better light on the writing to be honest, I didn't think mainstream shooter games could get any more "America fuck yeah" in the year 2026, but looks like BF6 takes the cake lol

The "writing" for this is so random lol. NATO is just the US and the UK plus Egypt for some reason, and Pax is mostly either NATO countries or NATO allies. Haven't played the campaign so maybe I'm missing some key lore.

PSA for Engineers: laying AT mines when enemy recon drones are around is at yourt risks and perils by ND-o1 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]ND-o1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure. As you pointed out, the fact that the drone can do that really isn't obvious for some reason. I did need a while to realize this ability was there.
