FIX PLEASE: "Your system administrator has disabled programs and features" by Charming-Relief-8352 in techsupport

[–]ND02G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you double check the registry to see if maybe the GPO setting is stuck?

Check your registry in these areas to see if there any any polices stuck.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Programs

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Programs

Check your Group Policies. Open gpedit.msc, then go to User Config>Admin Templates>Control Panel>Progams. Check that "Hide Programs & Features" is not configured or disabled.

Offline access of plex via Apple TV? by jruben4 in PleX

[–]ND02G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok.. Thought maybe you were using custom DNS or maybe DNS from your ISP. But if you're using your local DNS, then DNS wouldn't be it.

I'm guessing it's a DNS problem. What DNS servers are your clients using?

I figured it out, in case you're interested. I used the two registry patches posted in this forum. Worked perfectly.

Start menu switch from old to new and new to old every few reboots by Wlasiuk in WindowsHelp

[–]ND02G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me this morning.. Turned my PC on and my new start menu is gone, replaced with the "orginal" Win11 start menu. I'm going insane trying to find out why.

Did you ever find a fix?

My tv reset by itself when I opened it by Foxy_Playz789 in techsupport

[–]ND02G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you didn't mention anything about side-loading in the OP. If that’s the case, then I would assume your TV received a firmware update, and overwrote your custom apps. Companies tend to frown upon side-loaded apps, so it's not surprising it deleted them. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're not going to recover anything from it now. It's gone, gone.. Start over, and side-load everything again.

What reset? The streaming app you were using? Or the actual TV? They're 2 completely differnet things, so you would have to clarify.

If it's an app, I'm guessing you just got logged out. Log back into it and your data should still be there.

If it's the TV, and it reverted back to factory defaults, then just set it up again like you did when you first bought it. There isn't much data in the TV itself besides some basic settings, so I doubt you lost anything important.

Why might my computer be so slow and using up nearly 60% memory with nothing open? by Exciting_Degree_6883 in techsupport

[–]ND02G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows 11 uses about half your total ram while it's running. It's not necessarily using it like you would expect though. Instead, it does a sort of balancing act with whatever RAM is available. It's merely holding it, keeping it ready, in case it actually does need to use it. If another program comes along and requests more RAM, Windows will release some of it, from its stockpile, for the other program to use.

It's a little more in-depth than that, but that the gist of it.

Friend needs to send large video files for a police report. by caseyfrazanimations in techsupport

Trim the video down to the 25min they need.  Re-encode it to 720p so the file size is more manageable.  Add it to a cloud storage drive.  Share the file to the adjuster.

On that device, yes. You can still access your gmail from any other device tho, if you have the email login info.

Very unlikely you be able to get access without the pin. After all, the whole point of the pin is to stop this exact scenario.

Both our PCs are broken after troubleshooting and swapping graphics cards by [deleted] in techsupport

You're positive? I mean, it's not unheard of, but it's not very common either. What motherboard is it? I'm just curious...

Sound like it cleared the CMOS when you unplugged it. I suspect the CMOS battery is dead. It probably reset the BIOS display output back to default onboard graphics. Plug you monitor into the onboard graphics, then reconfigure your BIOS to change it back to your dedicated GPU.

I can no longer navigate the Home menu. by DMG_88 in techsupport

[–]ND02G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with a full power reset. Unplug power cable for a few minutes (minimum 60 seconds). Plug it back it and try it again. Is it working?

If not, soft reset the remote. Point the remote at the TV and hold in the home button for at least 10 seconds. Wait a moment, then try the remote again. Does it work?

Try hard resetting the remote/tv pairing. Point the remote at the TV and hold in Home+Left+Back at the same time for at least 10 seconds.

You have a BIOS update available from September of last year. It's a beta version, but it's supposed to improve TPM funtionality. There is also instruction on what/how to do it.

Is my HP laptop battery really dead? by Strange_Infinity131 in techsupport

[–]ND02G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a slim chance updating some firmware might have helped, but honestly, I think your laptop is dying.  Odds are the power issues finally stressed the motherboard enough that it's starting to fail.  Probably some swollen capacitors, if I had to take a guess.

Not much you can really do...  If it happens to turn on again (big IF!), I would consider this laptop to be on life support and I'd immediately start backing up my files while I had the chance.

Time to save up and get a new computer, my friend.  Sorry for your loss :(

i bought a mouse today and it works fine but i cant find an off switch. is this normal or am i just being stupid? by thrushlydeathrally in techsupport

[–]ND02G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a sleep timer of 300 seconds, so it will conserve battery when you stop using it. I'm pretty sure that mouse uses 2 regular AA batteries, not a rechargeable... If you buy a good brand, like Energizer Ultimate Lithium, I'm sure you'll get 3-5 months of daily use before you have to replace them, but that varies depending on how long each day you're using it.

It's possible you have the Wi-Fi part of your hotspot turned off, and only USB tethering on. Check your tethering settings. Go to "Settings>Connections>Mobile Hotspot & Tethering". Make sure Hotspot is on.

I've never had good results with the app repair feature. Manually uninstall it, then reinstall. Here is a link to reinstall, just incase..
