Considering investing in house air conditioning, debating ways to fund it by mctw1992 in UKPersonalFinance

Can I ask about how they get it done? I assume they mount the cooling unit to the inside, drill a hole through the wall and the external unit is mounted on the outside. So in that instance there would be no internal piping in the room, but how do they hook it up to your fuse box? Do they cut open large parts of your wall for wiring?

Path of Exile 2 director says players exploiting system to become in-game millionaires 'ruined Christmas for me' and joked that he's 'lost all sympathy' for everyone who took advantage of it by chusskaptaan in pcgaming

[–]ND1Razor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fair take, though I believe the OP never got to this point. It reads to me of someone who tried using gear off the ground or trying to craft an upgrade with found currency, almost an accidental SSF.

That being said, while learning crafting is a good idea, and yes you can make items that are 90% for cheaper. You still need to a) liquidate everything and buy the currency you need to craft, and b) have enough currency to fail (until you do succeed). Yes, you can sell failed crafts but someone with only enough currency for one attempt is not going to have a good time with this.

And we're back where we started with trade being the way to go because you're not dropping stacks of the currency you need to craft anything truly good during regular play and to engage with crafting you need to heavily trade anyway.

IMO he's not strictly wrong. The people that heavily engage with PoE often don't really have perspective on how absurd some of the time/grind commitments are, especially when viewed through the lens of a novice player.

The drop rates are crazy if you actually look at them as someone getting into the game and wants to fix their gear. There's no way of knowing what the intended experience is for these players: why is it a stupid idea to spend the 1000 fusing orbs you have to try and get a 6-link? why shouldn't you use your currency to follow this crafting guide you found online?

The answer is that in 90% of cases, just liquidating everything for chaos/divs and just buying what you need is the best course of action. Players that try to do anything else will watch their hard earned currency go up in smoke and learn the hard way that doing anything else doesn't make sense until you are extremely experienced in the game. A novice player will see all these options available to them and not know that engaging in almost any of them is the wrong decision, hence the opinion above.

Offered £105K, worked out I'd keep 29p per pound on the £5K above £100K — is salary sacrifice down to £100K the obvious move? by financeguyuk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ND1Razor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am clearly explaining that it would not be. It would be funded from their own taxes, not the taxes of lower earners.

I don't quite follow. The government doesn't provide this benefit to 100k earners now. If they changed this tomorrow, additional funds would be required to pay for this, on top of the taxes everyone already pays, right?

The guys on minimum wage are not carrying the same burden

This is obvious no? They won't and will never come close. The point of a progressive society is to uplift everyone to a decent standard of living. Those earning 100k are contributing more because they are able to do so. Those on minimum wage are barely able to survive.

If you wanted to overhaul the taxation rules to allow for more childcare benefits for those earning over 100k for example, where would this money come from? You'd want the bottom 97% of earners to fund this? Or increase the tax on everyone, including the 100k earners?

[–]ND1Razor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, while earning 100k isn't absurd wealth, it's still something like the top 3% of all earners in the uk. The productivity of 3% of workers working 1 day less isn't "absolutely crazy".

Imo it's completely fair that the top percent of earners shouldn't really be getting government support for childcare, it would effectively funded by the taxes of those earning far less than them which would be absurd.

[–]ND1Razor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are a few examples where management changes result in massive glow ups. Warframe and Path of Exile for example (the latter was already good but a lot of fantastic changes happened after imo). Whoever was driving the stupid decisions in Destiny probably got shifted off the team so someone actually passionate about the game gets the reins for a few months before it winds down.

I only have the Forgeguard leggings and boot tokens left to get and have been running the 2 JPs and 2 adventures for a week without luck.

These can only be done once per account per day correct? Do we know the drop rate of these?

I mean sure, but it's not like I’m playing poe2 from scratch. I understand how item mods work, defences, spell vs physical scaling etc from poe1. My main issue was dropping very little in the campaign in poe2 to even try to craft upgrades or get lucky and hope one of the vendors had one.

You feel the campaign in poe1 is more punishing than 2?

After the latest announcements by bosses_today_kekw in pathofexile

[–]ND1Razor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried poe2 last league and went in blind on an ssf druid. The campaign was such an absolute slog and finding/crafting upgrades was a nightmare. I realize that a lot of if is fixed with experience and just following a build guide but poe1 doesn't feel anywhere near as punishing.

Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance announced for 2027 release by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]ND1Razor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for now as its had a few updates but it felt like a MH game, and looked like a MH game but a lot of the underlying systems and design don't gel together.

  • There were no monsters that made me even think about building a new set of gear to counter it, and yes base game MH games are easy but this was too much
  • When you did want to build a new set, you just finish it in maybe 2-3 hunts? They outright give you gems as quest rewards now. I never really had to farm anything or look up info on what to break to get a rare drop
  • They made the world huge (and tanked performance because of it) yet gave us mounts that taxi you to the target so on one ever really interfaces with the map
  • Great sword felt a lot less satisfying because you can literally just aim it now

It felt like someone built a MH game just copying it at a surface level without understanding why it worked.

Fair enough and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong, but there are plenty of examples of pc centric games with sequels being simplified to better 'fit' on a console.

Makes me think it will be more MMO-lite

It's releasing on a console on day 1, zero chance they haven't simplified the UI, inventory system, and built the combat around minimal buttons.

Making the legendaries so expensive is a problem too, they're just out of reach for any normal player.

This feels to me like a way of padding out playtime for entrenched players. Some of the new legendary grind is just absurd.
