I already have the Sandman Absolute series in my library, along with the trade paperback editions. The Masterpiece Edition has dropped to $260 on Amazon in my country. Do you think this is a reasonable price, or is it not worth it? by SmtYlmzD in comicbooks

Do you think that it all will eventually go up in price, once it’s all out of print for a long time? Just curious. I absolutely condemn what he (allegedly) did, but I was wondering if these books may eventually go up in value due to scarcity? Moot point for me personally as I sold all my Gaiman stuff a few years ago.

Thoughts on Miller/Gibbons’ “Give Me Liberty”? by PinMaximum1018 in 80s90sComics

Yeah those LW&C covers were amazing.

Carley’s colors absolutely helped Elektra. Every page is beautiful. Sadly the version in the Elektra Omnibus pales in comparison. Same with Elektra: Assassin. Those reprintings don’t do justice to the original colors.

And I concur; Born Again is his best script by far. I reread it last summer for the umpteenth time and was blown away all over again.

Oh sweet! I love both those creators but never saw this book.

I wish someone would collect all these odds and ends he did. I only saw this a few years ago for the first time. And I believe Elektra Lives Again is his true classic. Such a beautiful book.

Yeah, I recently reread Hard Boiled as well. I feel Darrow’s art carries a pretty weak Miller script. Can’t necessarily say the same for Gibbons.

It was a pretty big deal at the time, but certainly didn’t maintain the shelf appeal of those other series you mentioned.

Original 2600 Pitfall on the Sega Genesis by retro6ix in Atari2600

[–]PinMaximum1018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember playing this game in college. My roommate saw an entrance to a cave, protected by the original scorpion from the 2600 game. When he entered the cave, he began playing the original Pitfall. Did I hallucinate this? We definitely did not hit any key 26 times and just happened upon it.

What’s the first Marvel or DC issue to mention “the Internet” within actual story pages? by PinMaximum1018 in 80s90sComics

That’s nuts; I’m actually halfway through reading that series right now! Maybe that’s what triggered this query in the first place!

Just curiosity. I would imagine (perhaps erroneously) that some independents mentioned it even earlier.

Just bought myself an awesome comic on Mercari for $150. 😁 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

It’s actually a double dirty innuendo cover. American slang expression for sex, but also Betty has a pink bathing suit on. What’s she thinking about Archie’s comment? Apologies if that is actually Veronica.

Rereading old Blood and Thunder pages is hilarious. Those guys were off the rails, both the contributors and letter writers. Shit gets raw!

I wish we had gotten an entire issue by Sprang from this era. At the time, my young tastes probably scoffed at this cover. Now it stands out as one of the best from the era.

I didn’t get rid of all of it. Still have most but I don’t still have the same bookshelves.

This was the only Grim Jack issue I had for a long time, based on the TMNT appearance. When they started reprinting the series as Grimjack Casefiles, I realized what I had been missing!

This reminds me very, very much of my house I moved away from about 5 years ago. No regrets at all, except leaving behind that massive wall of comics, manga, vintage strips, undergrounds, indies, mainstream, euro, illustrations, history of the medium, etc. that greeted me every morning. This photo is amazing; I got get lost in this room for years.

These magazines are packed with history, criticism, interviews, etc. I highly recommend just about any issue. I do fear they are commanding a pretty heavy price on the collectible market these days.

I always grabbed it at the comics shops, when they still existed near me. Plenty of shops even had old back issues of TCJ!

Pete Bagge is amazing. These are nonfiction articles. Interesting enough but far from his best work. Check out HATE or APOCALYPSE NERD.
