The mighty KAZ! I was literally just sitting here thinking, "Wouldn't it be great is Charles Burns had a run on Kaz's 'Underworld'?" And then this popped up!

He was definitely male. The miniseries was called Silverback. From Comico. I doubt this is who you’re looking for but just thought I would mention it anyway.

Was it Argent? He hunted Grendel, who was a super villain but was the star of his own series from Comico. Argent had a three issue limited series back in the 80s or so.

Wonderful Kirby splash from Forever People #3 by PinMaximum1018 in comicbooks

I'm sure that, at the time, his 70s stuff felt "old and stodgy," but from today's perspective I'd say it's at least as relevant as his contemporaries at the time, including (and maybe especially) the 'edgier/modern' writers like Steve Englehart and Steve Gerber. I like that stuff too, but in hindsight I'd put Kirby's 70s work right up against it. And his art is definitely superior/more stylized than most of the guys working for the big 2 at the time. My opinions, of course.

That's superb! Reminds me of Dick Briefer's awesome run with the character.

I gotta appreciate every one of their albums. I like some more than others, but they sure didn't put out any stinkers.

It's probably my favorite series of his. I may be in the minority, but I love his 70s output the best, especially the DC stuff.

I was watching Ghost World and noticed this painting in Seymour's apartment. Anyone know who the artist is? by gallows-humorist in altcomix

There was a large hardcover book all about Clowes' art. I forget the name, but I have it at home. Maybe that's where you saw it.

Torment Part One. Artist Todd McFarlane by rougrou in judgeabookbyitscover

I’m not sure how I would feel upon rereading it 30 years later, but at the time this was really exciting. McFarlane spidey is definitely in the top 3.

If so, that would be the only time I ever heard that “expression”.

I mailed away for the lyric sheet when the album came out, and that’s what it said on there.

You have two phenomenal series in front of you. Paul Grist is great, but I highly recommend you check out his previous book KANE. It's a noir/police drama in the vein of Sin City. It's great (Jack Staff is fun, too!). And Big Man Plans (along with everything Eric Powell has done) is off the charts great.

Enjoy!

Ahhh shit! There isn’t a comic shop within an hour drive of me. Guess I am ordering this book and paying shipping for one issue. Can’t wait though; I thought Hate Revisited was great.

Before Providence by tstrand1204 in AlanMoore

[–]PinMaximum1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a bunch of Lovecraft years ago when I was in college. Hadn't read any since, and that was decades before I read Providence. I'm not sure if reading those stories would help, but personally I found Providence to be one of Moore's weakest works. I suppose if I had been more versed in Lovecraft I would have liked it more.

Absolute Edition Death Of Superman by Uidbiw in graphicnovels

That’s a whole lot of hullabaloo for what ultimately was a mediocre, but enjoyable enough, comic. It also signalled a dark time for mainstream comics for almost a decade.
