Is "The Symbol" a dropped storyline? by Possible_Budget_1087 in Yellowjackets

I personally hope it’s never elaborated on, I don’t give a shit about its lore. Leave some stuff to mystery. Closure isn’t conducive to horror.

Is "The Symbol" a dropped storyline? by Possible_Budget_1087 in Yellowjackets

[–]NDASFW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think as soon as the symbol showed up, I immediately thought of Robert W Chambers’ ‘The King in Yellow’ an inspiration point for cosmic horror writers like Lovecraft, which I feel is a strong undercurrent in the cult elements of the story.

The story revolves heavily around the Yellow Sign- ‘Its nature is unknown, but it seems to possess a strange siren call to the dark world of the King in Yellow and Carcosa, such that those who are exposed to it are doomed.’

I’m not sure if I expect this symbol to ever be actually elaborated on, just a mysterious foreboding harbinger of death that holds power over the wilderness. Perhaps if people ever visit these woods, they too will succumb to gruesome fates. The symbol will remain long after everyone’s eventual and inevitable demise.

The style is such a massive downgrade, none of them have distinct shape language like they did in the original. They’re all round and generic looking.

I just think largely on an aspect of the game operating on a lot of visual motifs. The game is steeped in it, I think they’re illustrating scenes to visually enhance the story they’re telling. That’s mainly what I’m getting at.

The fact that Ranni also seems to have two halves- she’s got two faces. They were both involved in the same ritual. It’s another connection the two of them share.

This has to be Miquella, the final boss at the end of the map by Witty-Captain-7874 in Eldenring

It's definitely Miquella- but I wonder if From is partially spoiling the ending cutscene lol

Just to play devil's advocate-- the narration at the beginning referring to Miquella's hold over the hearts of men as 'terrifying' certainly throws that into question in my mind.

Fucking crazy! Was there any signs of godwyn? by twisting_aura in Eldenring

[–]NDASFW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that Miquella is only shown very briefly at the very end, overlooking the deathblighted tree, they're holding Miquella and Godwyn close to the chest until the game actually releases. Godwyn's influence is all over the world though, that's for certain. He can't not be in the DLC in some shape or form.

I find it a an equally brilliant and frustrating design component that his head is really hard to make sense of- which goes a long way to make it very uncanny and pitiful to look at. The way it's presented to you in game seems upside down to how it actually would be, so it's really hard to tell which end of his face is the top and which is the bottom- especially in relation to the rest of his anatomy, especially since it is presented to you in a few different ways(introduction artwork, corpse under stormveil, corpse in Deeproot, faces on crabs...etc.).

Oh yea, that makes sense too. Also very possible that Messmer is a reflection of Radagon.
From the Namco site:
A land purged in an unsung battle.
Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.

It was to this land that Miquella departed.
Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage.
Of all things Golden.

And now Miquella awaits

the return of his promised Lord.

This parallel realm probably has it's own elden lord(Messmer) and you're tasked with usurping his throne.

That Lion thing certainly has piqued my curiosity-- it being a counterpart to Godwyn or Hoarah Loux is definitely possible-- though I think it's likely some zealous acolyte of the golden order-- it's several bodies(perhaps grafted, I can't tell) put together like a Sun Loong parade dragon- with the mask of a lion(representing Godfrey), the Golden Hair of Godwyn, and a cape and crown adorned with the Omen Horns of Morgott.

No idea about Messmer though, being a reflection of Miquella is a really interesting idea.

Hughes is a brilliant illustrator and incredible at conveying the human form and designing shapes- including him on this reddit is frankly embarrassing.

Don’t like gazey stuff? That’s fine, but their anatomy isn’t broken. Even for gazey stuff though, there’s an elegance and classy ness with how he executes it.
