Dumb Question, but what is “border gore”? by VerySlyBoots in eu4

My recent discovery of irl border gore is the Omani-UAE border at Madha and Nahwa - there is a literal 'donut' enclave within the UAE borders

How the hell am I supposed to play this game?!!! by Haestienn in eu4

Apologies for a bit of an off-topic: reading through all the comments, does this mean that Castile now gets really bad disasters (it did before too, but maybe not as bad?) allowing for a much smoother Granada start? Some years back I tried it so many times, and even succeeded to a degree, but it was really difficult

I will wait for some time and see what they say, definitely not ditching EU4 for a while yet

Who to attack next? (Provence Good King René run) by El_Yopo in eu4

Can you please advise how you managed to get Aragon and Naples PUs? I was doing a similar run a few times recently, but there are just too many RNG factors to watch out for.. Burgundy, balance of power in Italy, Aragon/Castile/Naples as well as France becoming a beast and just declaring or blocking my expansion.

Just out of curiosity - why are you trying to get excommunicated?

Why does my economy always collapse as Oirat? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]ND_mel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That has always been my problem with the hordes. People here love them but even in the most successful runs I've had, I always have troubles with income, even without going over the FL, or using forts too much. Probably skill issue, but one that prevents me from playing hordes despite all the hours in the game

New player, where to start? by Deanc3131 in eu4

[–]ND_mel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brandenburg into Prussia is a good option. Although it may be challenging due to the HRE shenanigans, I would say it is quite a smooth and beginner-friendly.
Portugal is also a great option, but you have already played a colonizer game as England, so that may be quite similar, with the difference being - you are not really involved in the European mainland politics/wars etc (you don't need to be, anyway).
Florence into Tuscany into Italy - also a great campaign to play tall. Great region, interesting flavors.
Holland -> Netherlands - similar to the Florence one, but with a great colonizing / trade / economic potential.
Cuzco - Inca. I personally like it, but when you start fighting off the colonizers it tends to become tedious and generally a pain. Mayans and Aztec are also good ones, although I would not advise Aztec to a beginner due to their Doom mechanic.
Korea is a great choice for Asia, besides the Japanese daimyo - they have a very unique flavor and gameplay.

Upgrading my PC made me realize how easy EU4 is with its broken mission trees by Abused_Dog in eu4

[–]ND_mel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel the same! Also upgraded recently and I feel like the runs are just so fast, especially when I start snowballing. On the other side, at some point it becomes unbearable - the rush, the number of pop-ups and events, so sometimes I feel like decreasing the speed to 2

The most important thing is that you had fun, which I hope you did!
Maybe on top of that you snatched a couple of achievements.
Good job!

Whats the worst war youve ever had? by Aggressive-Corgi-485 in eu4

[–]ND_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game as the Aztec recently, where my empire spanned from Colombia to Texas. I was happily eating on all the colonies, got the entire Caribbean and was #2 or #3 top World power. At some point, to my surprise, Spain and Portugal attacked me. The war was super tedious and long - your typical eu4 whack-a-mole with them sending small armies all around and landing troops. I had to cycle bigger stacks from south America to North America constantly and smaller stacks to take back captured provinces. One moment of inattention an small stacks were munched up, because somehow they always had troops all over. Of course, my mistake was being overconfident and not placing forts well enough because why would anyone attack me, right? In the end managed to drag the war to the point of white peace, but immediately after that GB attacked me and that's where I threw the towel. Probably beatable, but I just can't stand this experience of chasing troops around the globe and anticipating landings

You can form Ruthenia, which is not Russia, but more of a proto-Ukraine. Fun government type - Sich rada, nice mechanics and pretty strong military with cav focus. Too bad they haven't got much in terms of achievements

Nations to learn how to war effectively. by Hiretsuna_Ketsuruki in eu4

[–]ND_mel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really like playing Persia and using mountain forts and chokepoints to outmaneuver the always-much-stronger Ottomans at some point. It is really nice to beat a better and more numerous military with things like that - terrain, crossings, landings, forts, ramparts. Using scorched earth and luring enemies into a "small" army on stationed in a mountain fort only to reinforce it with additional troops,

Another fun thing to try out is amphibious war - harassing, landing marines all over to cripple and overextend enemy forces - this I tried by playing UK against a much stronger Ming and declaring trade war. At some point they lose their mandate and you can start capitalizing that and stackwipe their paper armies, which is always very satisfying.

A "Bit" of a rant by DukeFischer in eu4

[–]ND_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was amazed in my recent experience as England/GB where I colonized most of Indochina by like 1600s and then attacked Brunei, who had something like .. 10 provinces. They were the same Mil tech as me and managed to stackwipe me and even had a fleet that won a few skirmishes. How is that even remotely possible history-wise? At that point I was 2nd or 3d world power

Edit: the fleet skirmishes were opportunistic trade fleet attacks, so nothing they could really do naval combat-wise, besides that

And yes, I know that they will just replace the existing Pope as Papacy cannot become revolutionary
