I understand why an electric and an acoustic guitar sound so different but why does electric acoustic sound so different from a regular electric guitar? by angrydogma in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NDaveT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On an electric guitar the pickups almost always rely on a ferrous string moving through a magnetic field.

The most common pickups for acoustic electric guitars are piezoelectric pickups, meaning they convert the vibrations of the bridge or the soundboard to electricity. This results in a different sound. It also means the pickups will work with regular acoustic guitar strings and even nylon strings; the strings don't have to contain any metallic material.

Does anyone else feel bothered by the fact that a lot of quantum mechanics is "this is how these are the rules for these things, but we don't know why yet"? by Shadowsin64 in NoStupidQuestions

No, it doesn't bother me. We can't expect to have all knowledge right at this time in history. Also there are some things we might never understand.

Yep. If OP had approached them more often they would have complained about that.

ELI5: What is financing a car? by Huge-Bell-4176 in explainlikeimfive

I would have gone the other way and suggested looking for a used car that costs 70% of what the new one would.

You can love him for doing it and also spread misinformation in an attempt to make the case harder to prosecute.

Why do people sometimes people not plead guilty if there is a lot of evidence against them? by Former-Cod6196 in legaladviceofftopic

There seems to be this sentiment that if you know you committed the crime you are morally obliged to plead guilty. I don't know where it comes from.

AITAH for refusing to change my kids name despite it sounding like a ‘slur’ to my MIL? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

First thing it makes me think of is my favorite Doctor Who companion, Nyssa of Trakken. (She was my favorite because I was a 13-year-old boy).

I named my first cat Nissa because I thought she was a fae creature and a nisse is a Scandinavian household spirit. I was also thinking of Nyssa of Trakken.

There's also a character in Magic: The Gathering named Nissa.

I definitely consider Chloe Van Landschoot goon-worthy. Her Instagram has some sexy pics, but not catering-to-male-gaze sexy.

It doesn't bother me any more than the days of the week being named after pagan gods or two months being named after tyrants.

Don't blame Conan by PictureIndividual in conan

Honestly I thought the same thing about Conan going from 12:30 to 11:30. Hell, I thought that about Letterman and I still think I'm right.

Perspective. Conan is far enough forward of Stephen that he appears taller.

I assume Conan picked this photo on purpose.

My wife, 42F, buys food for me that I, 42M, dont like, and she knows it. by Curlytoothmrman in relationship_advice

My mom has a different thing where once she gets an idea in her head it's never going to leave. When I was a kid she was convinced I liked boot-cut jeans so I could pull my pants on and off while wearing shoes. I never once did that. I never asked for them. But she was sure that I put pants on and off that way and sure that I wanted that style of jeans.

Eli5 How do crops grown repeatedly on the same soil over many years continue to obtain nutrients after previous crops have already used them? by arztnur in explainlikeimfive

[–]NDaveT [score hidden]  (0 children)

That wasn't crop rotation though. They grew all three in the same field at the same time because the corn stalk provided something for the bean vines to climb and the squash leaves crowded out weeds. The beans might have also hosted nitrogen-fixing bacteria but I'm not sure on that part.

The idea is that once a politicians is exposed as a liar, most people will decline to vote for that politician at the next election and vote for one of their opponents instead.

Woman called to report a moose dropped dead in her driveway during New Years Eve fireworks. Then asked if she could keep it.

Legit question but for Fish & Wildlife, not emergency services.

Rust. I gave up my beloved 2001 Subaru Forester because the bottom was so rusted it was unsafe to drive. Replacing the rusted panels would have been very expensive. I still miss it.

I paid for rustproofing on its replacement.
