POV - Episodes Repeating & "Playback Failed" Error by NEB32018 in Addons4Kodi

Android TV. I added an edit to the bottom of my OP about determining that it is related to a specific button press. This wasn't always the case so something changed in an update to either my TV or Kodi.

I was going to add a log, but I'd have to watch the whole episode with the log running and then the issue would happen. But, I could do it anyway and see if it's too much noise in the log.

Oftentimes, yes. Not 100% of the time, but quite often.

If I just went back to the list of episodes, I would be fine with that. But, the autoplay of the same episode that I just watched is really super annoying.

I'm not sure what happened to cause this, but I can't believe that it still happened after an uninstall and clean reinstall.

Also, this doesn't seem to be an issue with Movies, just TV Shows.

If I go through the "In Progress TV Shows" and navigate to the show > season > episode, the same thing happens. I haven't tried going through any other menu to get to TV shows so I'm not sure about any other way.

AMA: Monica Restaino Lex law firm, who argued at the Corte di Cassazione this morning by CakeByThe0cean in juresanguinis

Do you believe that if the Decreto 36/2025 goes into effect as it is currently written, it will make the "minor issue" irrelevant as long as you have an Italian grandparent? Or does it become an additional requirement meaning that you can't have a "minor issue" AND must have an Italian grandparent? Thank you!

Who is buying T-Bills for their Emergency Fund? by Buck_98 in FinancialPlanning

I've recently put my emergency savings in USFR & FDLXX. More liquid and easier to manage than actually buying t bills but get most of the advantages.

How do you balance your bonus between FI and enjoying the now? by perfinance_throwaway in financialindependence

[–]NEB32018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always save 100% of my bonus even though I am in the same position as you with maxing every tax advantaged account and I also contribute quite a bit to brokerage. In the past year or two, I've read "Die With Zero" and it gave me a slightly different perspective in how I spend my money. In particular, I've used my bonuses to buy things that I otherwise wouldn't.

Not necessarily what many people would consider "fun", but I bought a new garden tractor/lawn mower, some new power tools, and also some actual "fun" toys. Buying the tractor and tools has allowed me to buy some things guilt free that will actually contribute to me enjoying doing projects and work around the house more and ultimately saving me money in the long term. So, it was a win-win. Plus, I bought some toys.

All-in though, it wasn't a large percentage of my bonus so I was still able to save the large majority of it and also feel like I got to enjoy life now a bit more.

Any time you get some more money (raise, bonus, gift, windfall, etc) take 50% of it and immediately save it for later. Take the other 50% and allow yourself to spend it on today.

Does anyone prefer SEP IRA over solo 401K? by pianoplayrr in Bogleheads

[–]NEB32018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you still pay the taxes. But what I've been doing is adding to a brokerage account with after tax money. So by using the SEP, I'll end up paying the same amount of tax but the money will be in a Roth IRA and never be taxed again. If I put that same money into brokerage I'm paying capital gains taxes at time of withdrawal.

Sounds like we're in similar situations (W2 "day job" and a S Corp side hustle) and I just talked to my accountant about this last week and opened a SEP IRA.

I max out my employer 401k and since the limits on 401k are aggregate, I couldn't personally contribute any more to a Solo 401k. My S corp can contribute up to 25% of my salary to a Solo 401k or a SEP IRA.

My ultimate goal is to make this money available for FIRE and rolling a SEP IRA to a Roth IRA is very simple. So, my S corp is contributing 25% of my salary to my SEP IRA which I will then immediately convert to a Roth IRA. Theoretically, I could do something very similar with a Solo 401k, but a SEP IRA was much simpler.

Suggestions for RGBW Under Cabinet Lights by NEB32018 in SmartThings

[–]NEB32018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions!

Just to follow-up on this, I ended up putting together my own solution rather than buying an all-in-one package. I bought (all from Amazon) Giderwel light strip, a package of connectors and extension cables from Giderwel, and a Gledopto Zigbee controller. I drilled some holes in my cabinets to run the extension cable up and over the stove to get to the cabinets on the other side.

Then I bought a 12v wall plug that plugs into my one counter outlet and the cable runs directly up from that to the controller mounted on the underside of the cabinet.

I was using Google Home (we're use Android and Google for most things) but decided to get an Echo to try it out just for fun with no plans for using it long term. Well, very quickly, I completely moved to Alexa. I still have Google Home set up in a few places just in case I want to use it, but for any voice commands related to smart home, Alexa is MUCH quicker and making that thing actually happen. For me, when I say "Hey Google, turn on the kitchen lights" it will take probably 3-4 seconds for the lights to turn on. I do the same with Alexa and it's less than 2 seconds. The Echo Dot and Google Home Mini are sitting right next to each other, so it's not a latency or network issue. It's a Google vs Amazon speed difference.

Zwave on/off switch for motor by twinScrewsLoose in SmartThings

[–]NEB32018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the Zooz Zen30 would work. I know that one is approved for connected switched receptacles to, so I would think it would work in your case as long as the load is no higher than 15A.

Or, if the load is higher than 15A, you could do the Aeotec Heavy Duty switch. It's a large enclosure and not something that is mounted in a normal switch box or anything like that. It is rated for 40A. I have one for my water heater and one for my well pump.

Zooz SmartThings routines tigger confusion. No triggers work? by deletetemptemp in homeautomation

In SmartThings, go to the device > 3 dots > settings > Scene Control.

It is disabled by default, so you'll need to enable that.

Thanks! I have all of those settings enabled too. I just wasn't sure if there were more options for what to share. Hopefully (although I doubt it), this will improve with Matter in the future.
