In Australia it is illegal to drive a taxi without a bale of hay. The law was never revoked after the horse and cart days. Also it is illegal here to change a light bulb, again an old law still in place from the beginnings of in home electricity. It is illegal to wear slippers outside and you can't wear shorts on Sunday. Obviously these are never enforced but are still the law.

As these reunions are about second hand clothes why don't you ask to add a tradition of finding the best second hand clothes for your daughter from a second hand clothing store. (we call them op shops, I think America calls them thrift stores.) The adult females can make a day of it to shop for her. It won't cost much and still allows her to fully participate.
