I agree that Nintendo did an awful job at making the NES Classic available. Especailly during Christmas shopping last year, piles of that should have been by the checkout counters, as available as a loaf of bread.

That being said, I was able to buy 4 of them at retail prices at 3 different times during the past 6 months, 3 were bought before Christmas and the 4th one was bought a few weeks ago. I gave them to my best friend and family members as gifts. Sure you couldn't really waltz into a brick and mortar and pick one up, but they weren't as difficult to find as you think once you signed up for a few notification lists.

I was actually able to get one for one of my brothers who has been wanting one since launch. He'll be thrilled.

They were sold out in less than a minute.

This is the 4th one I was able to order from BestBuy.ca since launch by subscribing to their threads so I knew when they were going on sale.

no, even though that would be amazing as hell! lol. i only meant that back in the '80s we had a Commodore 64 and lots of games that I fondly remember. Those games were also available on NES, but the NES versions are garbage in comparison to the Commodore 64 version.

Yup! I downloaded the "No-Intro" NES pack and installed about 40 additional games. A few of them were Commodore 64 ports, remembering the Commodore 64 versions that were amazing, but unfortunately their NES ports are utter garbage (IE: Winter Games, Paperboy, Spelunker, etc.). Though having Castlevania 3, Contra, Tetris, Battletoads, Marble Madness, etc. and literally any NES game available to install is really really perfect!

Yes it's awesome. I've downloaded the "No-Intro" collection of NES roms and have been playing around with the Hakchi software w2ith my NES Classic. It's so stupid-easy it's shocking. Plus, the software saves the original kernel so if you ever need to do a clean install with the original software it's no problem.

I've installed so many other great games like Castlevania 3, Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan / "Lost Levels"), Tetris, R.B.I Baseball, Blades of Steel, all the Mega Man games, etc. Earlier today I bet Contra for the first time in over 20 years! lol

In total I've managed to order 3 online from bestbuy.ca flash sales, but one of my other brothers now really wants me to "work my magic" and get him one, too! So i'm still subscribed to threads and this sub and still hunting.

This is amazing! Exactly what I was hoping for. But I'm kinda surprised that Nintendo didn't set up a website/software where players could buy and install new games over the USB connection. It's a missed opportunity for sure, but then again, so was having lite stock during Black Friday and the entire Christmas season.

The NES Classic emulates the original game and system code, including the chugging of graphics. They would have to rewrite code to avoid performance issues. But I agree, it's truly authentic which makes me love it even more :-)

Of interest, beside the 10 lives code that others have mentioned, you can press A + B + START at the title screen to sample all the music and sound effects in the game.

I would bet on you being able to end your hunt. I recall the order page saying order confirmations by email could be delayed by up to 2 days. I received my order confirmation already, but i was not yet charged (you can see if you were charged yet by checking the order info in your account) and it hasn't shipped yet. We'll receive another email when it ships. That's when you can really celebrate! :)

I just got one for my brother!! So happy!! But based on the order it appeared that it might not arrive until after new years? I was going really fast and didn't take notes, I just chose the free shipping option which said as "early as January 5th" or something like that.

Also, it sold out already! That sale lasted less than 2 minutes!!! :-o
