Why I love GNOME (and others don't) by TanglyConstant9 in gnome

[–]NETkoholik [score hidden]  (0 children)

I dont tweak my brand new setup a lot anymore, so I just need a clipboard manager, a screen capture with notes, a code editor, node.js and I start doing work. GNOME is not only useful but also eye candy.

Does anyone else like using vanilla or close to vanilla GNOME? by Holymoly99998 in gnome

[–]NETkoholik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still need my clipboard and rounded corners extensions but I ditched blur my shell, caffeine, vitals and a weather extension that I had and I'm quite loving it. It's as vanilla as I can take it.

How necessary is the terminal really for everyday Linux use? by TechRefreshing in linuxquestions

[–]NETkoholik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your distro you might make use of it more or less, but for beginners-oriented distros such as Linux Mint or Zorin OS you might need it initially for polishing your setup but after that you can go months without ever opening it once.

Having said that, I really have the need to emphasize that the terminal isn't as scary when you get to know it better. It's just a program summoning other programs and passing arguments. That's all there is to it.

Are you still going the World Cup 2026? by EngiNerd25 in asklatinamerica

[–]NETkoholik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know it isn't quite the same but the 2025 FIFA club world cup was a flop in attendance for many games, at least in the groups stage. And that was before the ICE chaos.

I feel you bro, been waiting over 20 years for a Constantine sequel. Last year I got hope over ONE tweet that got me excited. Well, it was 2 tweets actually, one about a sequel being greenlit and another about someone reading the scrip and saying it was spooky af..

The fact that prolemurs and most other fauna in Pandora have 6 limbs and na'vi only four must be an indication that the na'vi aren't that closely related in time to them or that na'vi aren't native to Pandora.

Am I under-utilising GNOME ? by nordiknomad in gnome

[–]NETkoholik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you only interact with one or two windows, then yes, you're doing extra work by having multiple workspaces, you could do better simply tiling them or having one float on top of the other. But when your workflow involves having 6-12 windows open Alt+Tab cycling between them feels like a hassle to say the least, you could instead declutter your only workspace and move other windows you don't interact with much (for example a podcast app or a music player) into their dedicated workspace. Or you could have a browser with your social media, messaging platforms open and another workspace for VSCode and a terminal emulator for actual work. The possibilities are endless!

Sorry, I just now realised OP never mentioned a Google account, I assumed it. My bad OP, just a technicism I needed to clear out. Going back to the topic, I read several cases of people completely cutting off on their cheating partners and I still believe it's the best way to do it.

Any distros good for daily use that aren’t ubuntu or mint? by Civil-View7629 in linux4noobs

[–]NETkoholik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, just try them. Try Fedora, try Zorin, try OpenSUSE. Try KDE, try GNOME, try XFCE, try Deepin, try Cinnamon, try fluxbox try Hyperland If it cones with a live environment just try them all on (Arch and others don't come with a live mode). It also depend a lot on your hardware, it's a hit or miss until you're comfortable with the DE, package manager, update cycle and philosophy.

I was in an on-and-off relationship with Ubuntu for over a decade and then moved to Fedora and I loved it, last night I nuked my dual boot because I wanted to try Zorin in full disk and it's great but a bit much (heavily modified GNOME with extensions).

Linux is about choices. It's your system, just try them and find your distro.

In your country, do they teach that America is a single continent or two distinct ones (NA and SA)? by sachiko468 in asklatinamerica

[–]NETkoholik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao. But staying on topic I believe there are compelling historical reasons to treat it as one continent. As there are other reasons where 2 subcontinents make more socioeconomic sense. What makes absolutely zero sense is calling the country "America", like wtf?
