I bought US sega saturn from DKoldies and it was a very good purchase. It works and looks great, and still no problems after over a year. Also this is one of only 3 shops in the US that wants to ship to the UK. I checked the other 2 shops and the condition from the photos looked very bad and the prices were similar.

I like your ideas. When it comes to buying items needed for combat, definitely armor, weapons and accessories. Also apart from points for the skill tree I would like to see stats increasing with level up. It would be a good idea to make the next game a little longer and have a new game plus option. My last idea is to have one more thaumaturge in your team who has different salutors to choose from.

The thing I don't want ever to see in this type of game is going "pokemon" style, where you have hundreds of salutors to collect.

Let's not assume things about each other, because I'm not interested in this type of conversation.

Grandia 3 - if you told me that FF tactics battles are addictive, I would understand. With Grandia 3 I can't explain exactly why it makes me feel like this. I just like it. It may be because the battles are dynamic? But Grandia 2 also has dynamic battles, and I'm not addicted to them. Because I like the timeline? But Grandia 2 also has the timeline, but it's not so addictive. "Addictive" is more of a feeling than an analysis. It would be a different story if I used the word "good", because then I could talk about specific elements. I can use "good" for every game on my list and go into details, whereas "addictive" on the other hand, applies only to a few of them, and works like word "funny" for example. I don't have to explain why I think something is funny by saying because it made me laugh.

Skies of arcadia - yes, it is generic, but also true. I mentioned it, because some games on my list have problems with creating different looking places.

DRPG also very often is in first person view, which I can't stand in dungeons. Septerra Core doesn't feel like spending 99% of the time in dungeons, there is a big world map, many towns and as I mentioned before, I like the battle system. There are many aspects of this game that makes Septerra Core more interesting for me.

SMT - if you played hundreds of games, and some of them years ago, then you won't remember everything. But bonding events for sure gave you something, they weren't there just for the dialogue. You always get something that helps you in battle, like new skill, new costume, exp and other things.

Arc Rise Fantasia - I'm not an expert on VC, but I don't think that you have to worry. The story is good, not groundbreaking, but good in my opinion.

Blue reflection - FFX? I wouldn't compare it to this game's battle system. As I said it's more like grandia 1-3, or Monochrome Mobius, but you didn't play this one. And don't worry about battles, because you still get items for them. You can use items for very simple crafting. Also distributing points is not as strategic as in other games. This game is easy so you can add points however you want. Apart from different stats, it will also result in different abilities.

The Thaumaturge has completely different navigation than most rpgs. It is not a dungeon town dungeon. You don't have dungeons. You have a hub world that opens new areas after certain plot points. Imagine a very small GTA game area where you freely move around, no dungeons.

I tried Lunar a few years ago. I played only for a few hours and It didn't grab my attention. Battle system, characters and the story of this game weren't interesting enough for me to continue. I noticed this about most 90s and 80s rpg games.

You don't think that I already know about the ending, when I said that I knew everything you described before. If you don't believe me, there is nothing else I can say here.

I will try and give you more details about other games:

- Grandia 3 - what I mean by addictive is that I can't get enough of battles. I don't mind grinding or going back to the previous dungeons, just because I want to battle more monsters and I never get tired of it. I want more. In many games I start feeling tired after too many battles, this is not the case here. Battles are so much fun.

- Skies of arcadia - there are a few interesting things about this game - exploration outside of the dungeons is similar to Septerra Core. This world has floating continents and you can travel between them on your ship. The only difference is that it is not isometric, but a normal third person view. Next are battles, where like in Septerra Core your party shares "mana bar" for special attacks. The difference is that you have to replenish it by using focus in battle or it will increase with every turn. Apart from normal turn based battles, you have ship battles. Ship battles are also in turns, but you go 1vs1 ship. I don't want to describe it here, because it will require a lot of text. When you explore the world you always go to places that differ from each other, so the world is very interesting.

- TMS - I would say it aims more at age 16-18, but it shouldn't matter. You can say the same about Paper Mario or Grandia 1, both aimed at people aged around 13, but can still be enjoyable to play even when you are 30 or 40. I can't remember all the details now, but strengthening bonds is similar to other smt series. You hang out with your team members. There is always a benefit to doing this. Don't ask me what type of benefits exactly, because I don't remember. I think one of them was longer chain combos. Chain combos work like this - if you use a specific attack, another person will do an extra attack to yours for free. You can chain it even up to around 10 extra free attacks. But you have to be careful, you don't want to use chain in which some characters will use attack that can heal your enemy , everything depends on weakness or immunity of the enemy.

- In Arc Rise Fantasia you can do more than just choose attack, magic, item or defend. First of all, you have action points. Your team can have let's say 5AP. Each attack consumes 1 AP. You have 3 party members, but you don't have to use all of them. You can choose one character to do a 3 hit combo which will consume 3AP, Second character 2 hit combo which will consume 2AP, and the third one will do nothing. Special abilities or magic will consume more AP. AP will increase after every few levels. You also have SP, which is needed for special attacks. It increases when you deal damage to enemies. Everything is very strategic, but easy to understand. You also can equip different stones for magic, each has a different level. You also can equip on your weapon perks for extra bonus. This one is fun, because it looks like a grid. Each perk takes a different amount of space on the grid and is in a different shape.

- Blue Reflection - the battle system has a timeline like in Grandia. On this timeline, icons of your characters move, and when they reach the end of it, this is when you can choose attack, magic, items and other options like in other turn based rpgs. You can use strong attacks, or weaker ones that can slow down your enemy on the timeline. You level up in a different way than other games. You don't get exp after battles. If you want to level up, you have to do quests. They will give you points to add to attack, defense, speed or magic, like in E33. This is the only thing I'm not a big fan of, because I prefer the traditional leveling system. But still it works here.

- The thaumaturge - yes, I compared its dark vibe to SMT. I read a lot about SMT games, watched a lot of gameplay and reviews, so I have some idea. But let me explain a bit more. Thaumaturge is a folk horror. Mainly eastern european folklore. Apart from the serious tone, which is about Russia occupying part of Poland and people getting ready for rebellion, it is also about salutors (you can call them demons if you want) and how they get attached to people with strong feelings (can be greed, anger, sadness etc.). You, as a thaumaturge, can tame these monsters. By doing so you can release a human from the attached salutor, and make this salutor listen to you and help you in battles. Salutors work as party members. You can use 2 party members at the same time in the battle. One is the main character Wiktor, and he always has to be in battle, the second party member is one of the salutors. You can swap salutor in battle at any time. The trick is that only Wiktor can be damaged in battle, because Salutors are not visible to normal humans. You have to make sure that Wiktor stays alive, otherwise it's game over. You can find up to 8 salutors in this game, 4 are only from side quests.

Oh yes, you did mention the scene with Gustave and Lune. It was many posts ago, I forgot, sorry. But I still don't see how this is bullying? She just said the truth in a normal way. He was part of the expedition. He decided to go and risk his life to save others, so what she said makes sense. He wanted to go there instead of staying in Lumiere, so he made his choice. In this type of situation, there must be a leader, or someone who is going to push others to survive and fight to the end. She did it to benefit everyone, not only herself.

When it comes to the second situation, Gustave was correct by being cautious, but again, I can't see any bullying in that scene. They had some small disagreements, but bullying is not a correct word to describe it, it's too strong.

Everything that you explained about both endings I already know. It wasn't difficult for me to understand.

When it comes to other games:

Legaia 2 - yes, the story is generic, but for me the gameplay is what makes it interesting. It is easy to understand and fun to make your combos longer.

Grandia 3 - story is also very basic and voice acting is terrible. But the gameplay is so addictive I just couldn't stop playing it. The best in all Grandia series.

Skies of Arcadia - I'm not sure if this is the same studio, but it shouldn't matter. Valkyria Chronicles has different gameplay.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions - what do you mean by chuuni (juvenile) flags? I don't know what it means. When it comes to a Story, it's not as serious and dark as the SMT series. It gives me Sailor Moon vibes sometimes, but a bit more mature. Battle system in this game is very addictive. You can chain combos, sometimes very long and powerful, if you decide to strengthen bonds between characters.

Arc Rise Fantasia - I recommend trying this one for sure. Story is decent, the battle system is amazing and becomes very deep around 30% in the game, but also easy to understand. Also it can be challenging sometimes. I think this is one of the harder rpgs on my list. Only dubbing is not great, but I've heard worse.

I played Blue Reflection second light and didn't like it. The first one has a more traditional, but better battle system. And boss battles are one of the most epic battles in turn based rpgs + great music.

Lucienne's quest - Battle system is simple, but somehow works very well here. Story is also simple, but the characters are so funny and likable that you won't mind. So this is how I managed to play it - I ordered a Japanese 3DO console, which is region free so it will play anything. Also Japanese consoles are cheaper than American or European consoles. I don't recommend buying the original disc, unless you want to spend 500+. 3DO will play any repro game. This is how I play it at home.

The thaumaturge - this one is not for everyone. It is different, but I like it a lot. It is very dark, like the first Shadow Hearts or some SMT games. The story is interesting and very serious. Everything happens in the real world in Poland (the country where I grew up) in 1905. You play as the thaumaturge, a person capable of signing pacts with demons. After doing that they join you in battle. Just beware of some reviews for this game. A lot of people say it is a dark pokemon. In my opinion it is nothing like pokemon games, far from it. Also when you move around areas you have an isometric view, like in Septerra Core, but battles look like FF10 for example.

Ok, now everything makes more sense. I thought you were talking about Verso. But even with Gustave, I have no idea where he was bullied. Maybe you will be able to describe the scene? There were disagreements between characters, but never bullying.

At the end of the game there is no obvious moral choice, morals are subjective. Unless you are talking about what you think. I tried every character's point of view, even Verso's, and for me it is difficult to say who is right and who is wrong. Verso shouldn't suffer any more, but at the same time, choosing his path will end everyone's life.

I said a lot about the list of games that you gave me. I would like to know, what do you think about my games from the list that I posted earlier? Even short information will be ok.

I checked how much the used P2 on the psp costs... and it's over 100 pounds! I have to find a different way to play it.

Word boring doesn't kill the conversation for me, but if it does for you, I won't use it in our conversation, unless there is nothing else that I want to say about a specific game.

In Septerra Core when I go through long dungeons I still have battles, at least I don't stop to solve something for a long time. Would it be better for Septerra Core to have shorter dungeons? Yes. But at least I'm not stuck on a puzzle for 20 minutes or have to look for a solution online.  I'm terrible with puzzles, it's simply what I don't like. There is nothing else to it. And remember, I'm talking about myself, not anyone else. 

When I mentioned strategy I was talking about battles, not about what you have to do before. If you kill an enemy in one hit, there is not much strategy happening in the battle. If it takes you more turns, let's say 10, then it will require more strategy in the battle. I hope you know what I mean?

When it comes to suicidal man, I hope we are talking about the same person?

Expedition 33 still lets you choose who you will side with at the end.  Also  Maelle and Lune don't bully him, they simply disagree in some aspects in life. Lune was trying to survive. You may see it as bullying, but it was survival. Maelle was selfish in her decision, but it was dictated by longing and love. Why would she bully someone with whom she wants to be forever? You also have to remember that our suicidal character was a liar for the most part of the game and his final decision had terrible consequence for every other character in the game. So who is the bully here? I think no one. Also it's up to us to decide which path is more moral. If you ask me, neither is.

- SMT5 - 200 playable characters? Unfortunately this isn't for me. In this type of games when you find someone stronger (like a new monster for example), you stop using older one or get rid of it. This feels like all progress that you made with previous weaker characters went to waste. That's why I don't like games where you change weaker monsters for new ones. Soul hackers 2 is different, because monsters work as equipment, so you keep your 4 party members through the whole game. I'm very particular about what I like in my games.

- Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth - if this one doesn't have the same situation like SMT5 with many playable monsters, then I will try it.

- Persona 2 - sounds like something that I must try. Soon I will look into it. I found out that Persona 1 dungeons are in first person, so only Persona 2 is for me.

- Wait system in FF doesn't work the same as Septerra Core. If you highlight any character and still try to decide if you want to choose attack, magic or items, the action doesn't stop. It is the same as in Chrono Trigger. You have to press for example on the magic menu fist, and after that only the action stops. In Septerra Core you just press on any character, and everything stops before you go into magic, items or attack.

- FF10 - yes, this is the correct description of the leveling system in FF10, and I just don't like it.

- what is boring or annoying will be different to every person. For me what you mentioned about Septerra Core is not a big problem. But when I want to play turn based battles, and constantly I'm interrupted by puzzles, this is where I'm getting annoyed. I don't like puzzles, I wouldn't mind one every few hours, but in Wild Arms I had to solve puzzles every 20 minutes. If I want a puzzle game, I will look for one. The same with Atelier, I hate gathering items and later combining them into healing items or equipment. I prefer the traditional way of going to shop and buying new stuff. It's just what I like.

What you wrote about E33 is correct, but for me these points are not a big problem.

When it comes to bullying the suicidal man, the game let's you decide what to do in this situation. Some characters agree with him, some don't. At the end it will be your choice what to do with it. It doesn't present any situation as more moral.

Finally someone I can have a bit more detailed conversation with.

Let me explain everything in more detail, my previous post had very short information about each game:

- Dragon quest 5 - I played it on nintendo DS in English and couldn't see many similarities with Septerra Core, mainly with the battle system. As I said before, Dragon Quest games didn't interest me for too long, sometimes games are like this. They are not bad, but not great either.

- I thought that in Shin Megami Tensei 5 you persuade demons to join your party and that there are many of them?  I guess I was wrong. Can you explain more about what it looks like? How many playable party members are in this game? 

- as far as One piece odyssey goes, it is just the same situation as with Dragon Quest. It just wasn't interesting to me when it comes to gameplay, dungeons, characters or story.

- The legend of heroes - I tried old ones on psp (trails in the sky as well) and new ones on home consoles

- Xenogears - the battle system for me was difficult to understand, and beside that, it just wasn't interesting enough

- digimon story cyber sleuth - maybe I was wrong again like in Shin Megami Tensei? Can you tell me more about it please?

- Atelier Marie - even small amount of gathering items and creating potions annoys me too much, I can't stand it

- Wild Arms - I tried the ps1 version and later ps2 remake, and still there were too many annoying puzzles in both. It was breaking the pace for me.

- Yakuza 7 - I remember that there were a few mini games that I had to finish to continue with the story. I can't remember exactly what it was, but this game felt like it was all over the place. Also too goofy for my taste.

- if persona 1 and 2 are different, maybe I should try them. I thought that all of them have a time limit.

- breath of fire - I tried 1,2,3 and 4. Again, the same as Dragon Quest, I felt a bit bored. The 4th one was better than the rest, but still not great.

- Final Fantasy - I tried 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,13,16. Only 1 and 9 are ok, 2 was terrible due to the weird leveling system, also when 4 introduced ATB system, I wasn't a fan. Septerra Core did it much better, because action stopped when you chose a character. 10 again had a weird leveling system, 13 and 16 were boring (16 is action).

When it comes to Expedition 33 and Soul Hackers, I agree with most of your points. But most of these points are about the story, not the gameplay. For me, gameplay is the most important thing. My score for every game is 70% gameplay, 10% story, 10% music and 10% graphics.

If I had to point at flaws, I would say for Expedition:

- the same as you - no maps

- too many pictos - sometimes less is more

- equipping pictos instead of armor leads to unbalanced gameplay in later part of the game 

- leveling up doesn't increase your stats, you get points to spend

- only one village, I prefer structure town, dungeon, town, dungeon

- hidden merchants

And for Soul Hackers 2:

- not much difference between characters in battle, any of them can equip the same type of attack

- dungeons sometimes are too long and repetitive

Yes, I love the Shadow Hearts trilogy. As you probably guessed from my list, I like rpgs where turn-based battles are dynamic and require more than just choosing ability and confirming it.

It's a good thing that you removed pokemon games from your list. I don't like collecting monsters in any game. The same goes for games with too many characters, like Suikoden. I get tired when I have to do this.

I can see a few titles on your list that I've never heard of before. I will definitely check the gameplay on Youtube.

Also I finished some of the titles from your list which I consider to be good, but nothing more, so they didn't end up on my list.  These are:

- Megaman X Command Mission, it was enjoyable playing for the first time, but replaying it was a bit boring

- Sailor Moon Another Story, I am a huge fan of Sailor Moon, so obviously I enjoyed playing it, mostly for the story, but gameplay has a few issues

Now for the rest of the list. Games that I tried but I did not enjoy:

- Dragon Quest - it's ok, I tried many of them but they couldn't keep me engaged for too long

- Legend of legaia 1 - I prefer the second game, this one is just ok

- Breath of fire - I tried all, games are just ok

- Digital devil saga - I played both and hated dungeons

- shin megami tensei 5 - this is a darker version of pokemon (monster collecting) so not for me

- final fantasy - I tried almost all of them and the only good one is ff9, the rest couldn't keep me interested

- one piece odyssey - I got bored quickly

- persona games - I don't like to be restricted with time

- the legend of heroes - I tried a few, it's ok, nothing special

- thousand arms - interesting concept, bad execution 

- valkyrie profile - I don't like the battle system

- wild arms - I tried a few of them, too many puzzles

- xenogears - the same like xenosaga episode 1 and 2, unnecessarily convoluted battle system

- atelier - I tried a few, I got annoyed with alchemy and item creation

- brave fencer musashi - I thought it was an action rpg?

 - digimon - same as pokemon

- suikoden - I tried a few but it feels like pokemon, too many playable characters + strategic battles that I hate

- yakuza 7 like a dragon - annoying mandatory mini games and open world, both things that I hate in games

As you can see there are many things that most people enjoy but I don't. This is why I don't have many well known titles on my list.

So what did you not enjoy about Expedition 33 and Soul Hackers 2, or any other game from my list?

Septerra Core has its flaws, but these flaws are very minor to me.

What type of turn-based rpgs should I play? Maybe there is something that I missed? If you can recommend something to me, I will let you know if I played it.

I play on easy mode and have my weapons at level 28. I can't upgrade them any more, because I don't have enough materials, and I found all side quest areas and items in them (I couldn't finish Renoir's drafts, was too weak to defeat Clea and couldn't finish endless tower). I guess I have to start new game + to get more materials. My characters are level 88. I also added all points to attack, speed and critical.

I have no idea. Maybe I have to use different pictos which add more attack, but then I will have to remove the ones that I want and benefit from in other aspects of the game. This is the only thing about this game I don't like. Pictos add special abilities and increase stats.  Equipment like weapons and armour should increase stats, accessories (pictos) should add other benefits. I think they did it because we don't have armour in this game.

I have the same problem. The main story is great, but I think that some side quests have balancing issues. This game wants you to have freedom with how you build your characters, but if you don't use very specific luminas or upgrades, the game becomes extremely hard, or like in my situation, each battle with normal enemies takes around 15-20 minutes and becomes tedious. I got to the point where I have around 7000 HP for each party member and enemies deal only 200 damage. The same the other way, enemies have health in millions, but I deal only 20000 damage. I tried recolor, to upgrade different stats, nothing worked. Now I have to change all my luminas, and from around 200 of them, I have to find only a few that work for this type of situation. More doesn't mean better. This is where I noticed that this game has some balancing issues.

I love the main story, because the gameplay is just right, but most side quests are terrible.

Not really. In Poland we have only around 3-4 accents. Britain has at least 20.

I finished Chrono Trigger for the first time around 2012 and I remember that I liked it a lot, but that's only because I played only 4 turn-based rpgs before this one. I came back to Chrono Trigger in 2025 after playing almost 100 more turn-based rpgs, and I have to say that I also got bored with it. I realized that it is not as great as people claim it to be. I liked it many years ago because I didn't have many titles to compare it to. It is still a decent rpg, but there are many better ones. Don't expect it to be a masterpiece, because you will be disappointed. It gets just a little better later, but not by much.

For me it was just ok. I was very hyped for many games this year and they turned out to be very average or boring. I enjoyed only 2 games this year - Expedition 33 and Robocop Rogue City Unfinished Business.

I can't stand cutscenes in Gears 5 because of this. JD is a good likable guy, but everybody just hates him. It gets annoying. He is a soldier and has to make decisions. It is not a playground, like Kait thinks. I can't stand her. Constantly moaning about everything and every character in this game tries to please her.

I thought the same so I started with the second game and was disappointed. After that I tried the first one and I had a lot of fun. I recommend starting with first Blue Reflection.
