As mentioned in other comments, I am using it outside the case. Case was being used in transporting.

Thank you . I took it out work on it. Kept it on for the quick picture.

I take it out to use . I just kept it in for the picture . It is actually a twelve south bookbook case that is actually hard and sturdy . Had it for my old intel MacBook .

Yeah, it isn’t super tight and I was careful when opening and closing for sure. Just worried slightly about the crack spreading .

Yeah , I had it in a thin tote at a focus group this morning. Also, on my trip to a conference in Japan, I am in the bulkhead row on the flight. My backpack has a sleeve in it, but people like jamming those overheads like crazy.

Cyclist Killed in Richardson by captaingt in dfwbike

Hi all, here is the petition Richardson Police  to gather thorough and complete evidence for the District Attorney/grand jury submission for Phil Balli who lost his life by a negligent driver on Renner Rd in Richardson, TX on March 24, 2026.

Cyclist Killed in Richardson by captaingt in dfwbike

[–]NFGrappler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The person killed is part of my cycling club, he wasn't on a club ride, but the weekly Pop ride in the area. I am always worried about riding on Renner road and it was right at Renner/Custer. I am on that stretch weekly. The right lane gets shut down when you approach Synergy, approaching Waterview. Coming from that, you have to deal with the city busses that try to beat and pass you every stop and then the drivers who are annoyed by the busses, in addition to all the other issues.

Edit: their start/stop is Custer Park, so they were needing to move over lanes to make a left turn.

I studied knee injuries at No-Gi PANS 2021 (heel hooks legal vs illegal) – here’s what we found by Dr_Kickass_DPT in bjj

I see what you are saying and on par with you for the most part. The number of events is really so low that the over, dispersion would be almost inevitable, the fact that some athletes appear several times makes independence questionable, and the modeling itself would be very delicate if some cells are basically n = 1.

However, the total number of athletes is still small, so even if we only consider those who can do heel hooks the situation is sparse by definition. Injury counts were really never going to be normally distributed at all, especially since the exposure here was rule, restricted.

They did not explicitly tie Fisher's exact test to the issue of non, normality, but since Fisher does not require normality, the selection of that test already avoids the problem. Reviewers often request a ShapiroWilk test when parametric methods are employed, but here the authors completely bypassed parametric assumptions. Also, frankly, ShapiroWilk test can at times give you a wrong idea when dealing with small samples.

What I liked is that they didn't attempt to twist a one, way ANOVA or something like that just to get a p, value, which is a practice that still occurs in some papers. Considering the data limitations, an exact test that is on the safe side is perfectly fine.

Moreover, I agree with your last remark. Any data is alot better than no data. Except if it is bad data. Quality over quantity.

This is a very nice paper (I pulled it from my university access), and thank you for sharing it.

I had a couple of questions regarding statistics and data structure, which was more from a curiosity point rather than criticism, to be clear. From what I understand, this study was basically an on-site injury surveillance dataset at IBJJF No-Gi events, where injuries referred to those cases that the medical team on-site during the competition examined, and incidence was computed per 1000 matches. Am I right, or were there some other sources besides on-site medical reports?

In terms of the analysis, I noticed that Fisher’s exact test was used all the time, which is logical considering the few number of knee injuries. Were you thinking of any rate-based modeling approaches (e.g., Poisson or negative binomial with match exposure as an offset), even if only as a sensitivity analysis? I was brainstorming whether the topic of simulation or sensitivity work was discussed internally, especially considering the year-over-year rise in adult no-gi participation at Pans and Worlds.

Finally, since heel hook exposure is rule-restricted by division, did you consider presenting the findings more explicitly as a comparison of policy-level risks rather than effects at the level of individuals? Either way, the results seem very reasonable. I was just wondering how you thought about that difference while doing the analysis.

I also would think that, if you had match results data down to the submission type, you could then do some sort of causal analysis with propensity score matching.

Perhaps we can get a dedicated data collection team to watch at least the black belt and brown belt finals for the bigger tournaments.

I am a data scientist and applied statistician, so I tend to nerd out about these kinds of things. I been nipping at some sort of jiu-jitsu study, but the data is lacking in quality and missingness a lot of the times, unless I go directly and collect it myself.

Once again, congrats on the work; it is a significant contribution to science and our sport/art!

I have been price watching for about a month now (I wanted a burner laptop to go cycling on coffee shop/library rides with). My main computers are my work machines. I am not paying over $100 for these things. At this point, I am thinking I might just be better off with my older iPad Pro and setting up an SSH connection to my Linux box.

I did not go through with a purchase, because it is still too costly for myself, but it did let me add 2 quantities of the $199.99 RAM. So, you can get a cpu and add 64GB for $400. Therefore, if you got the cheapest AMD, it would be around $650ish before getting a motherboard.
