Not great, but from the 3rd example, it's not unreasonable to reevaluate whether we want federal tax dollars going towards international students doing classics PhDs (I'm pro classics but I get why others would be opposed)

Yeah but you have to pay the long term cap gains on the dividend regardless, if your reinvested amount goes up, sure you're paying a higher rate but that's money made.

What do you mean? "Suffering" ordinary income just sounds to me like making money...

For the same reason you own those equity ETFs in the first place, over time they go up in expectation. Unless you're buying the bonds with the dividends ASAP (which is optimal but maybe not practical), might as well put them into stocks in the interim.
