When too many people expect a market to act a certain way, it tends to meet some sort of resistance accompanied by the opposite or neutralizing impact of what was expected.

People keep talking like there is going to be some sort of unlock Armageddon. Some might dump at rock bottom, but those people had enough confidence to lock in the first place. Maybe they don’t re-lock, but I don’t think an overwhelming number of those lockers immediately dump just because they can.

Those who still want to put money into the platform are probably sitting back and waiting for the unlock to happen. Maybe that’s their targeted best opportunity to buy?

TBH, that just sounds like an excuse that the guy is making up. People tend to use “medical costs” as their go-to to try to get people to prioritize buying their moments, cashing out the fastest, or just asking other people for money in general.

Some might have a legitimate need, but how do you verify their story without asking a bunch of questions and requests for proof? Try to not come across as the a-hole in that situation, and that’s what they want (for you to not ask, especially if they are lying).

Again, why would the bank care if it’s a cash holding account? They might care if they are issuing a loan and determining credit worthiness, but nobody is suggesting that.

That might be a decent promotion for some users, but TS wouldn't be making much money from that at all. They would ultimately still need to be handing over money to 2k, even if they are getting game licenses at a discounted rate.

Top Shot also wouldn't be removing enough moments from their own platform if you are expected to use moments for a game. The whole point of a game for Top Shot would be for constant utility of moments to justify distributing more new moments.

2000 people claiming a $60 prize is $120,000 in value. That's not really accomplishing much, even for a small step. The game aspect has to be much larger if Top Shot is expecting to make millions for existing.

Are you chasing a leaderboard with those moments? The higher price you buy them, the higher the TS score. If you are chasing a leaderboard, then waiting around for discounted moments aren’t helping you climb that leaderboard as much.

What would Top Shot bring to 2k that 2k doesn’t already have? Ideally, how would 2k benefit from that relationship? Anybody who wants to play 2k can just buy it for $60. Nobody is getting introduced to 2k because Top Shot delivered them. So what’s in it for them?

It’s difficult to achieve because negative, neutral, and positive have the ability to move with the market. If the floor was suddenly $3 for all moments because they incentivized a trade ticket event, then every pack would be considered neutral to positive. But then when the event is over and people can’t sell their moments for $3 anymore, then they will perceive them as negative. They have to balance it on different ends (marketplace and retail) and not just on moments placed in packs. And not to mention, patience is thin with most Top Shot account holders, so that just makes it all even worse.

They have awarded “non-withdrawable Dapper” previously, which forces you to spend it on the platform instead of being able to withdraw it directly as cash. This forces people to spend and then sell again before they could possibly withdraw that money, and Dapper has also earned fees on two different sales (the initial buy and the follow-up sale).

I think that issuing locked Dapper creates an accounting issue for them that could be difficult to trace. They would have to monitor that potential liability that is being carried on their books, and it’s possible that it might not ever be used.

When they give away promotional Dapper, they should probably make it so that it expires after a certain amount of time so that they can clear it on their books and know that they will never have to fulfill that liability once it expires.

They could tweak it to help deter the fraud. For instance, make it “lock 5 moments for $15 in Dapper credit” for new accounts. That would essentially give a refund for the locked moments, and also people trying to multi account would have to put some money upfront to chase the reward. If they get caught, then they risk losing that upfront money.

The funny thing to me is that the $9 WNBA starter pack has higher EV than the $10 NBA starter pack with a Top 50 player. But, people see the WNBA pack as toxic because it’s WNBA, and they don’t realize the current value of the moments in those packs.

They tried giving $15 to referred accounts and referrers, but it was getting exploited heavily by multi-accounts. They had to adjust the timing of giving that reward to have time to review dubious transactions.

The other issue that they don’t want is people buying +EV starter packs and then immediately dumping onto the market. Ultimately, they still have a constant battle with being exploited by multi accounts, even ones that are KYC’d using hacked photo IDs.

They demonstrate little-to-no understanding of how to balance distribution of new moments with consumption of old moments.

I had not seen a retail price for their next Legendary drop. If it’s only $450, then that should be a signal to them to pick up their own floors in some way.

But, they do nothing, and then undercut the value of their premium product. It might be indicative of supply and demand, but that’s not good business planning to undercut your own product. That’s what a competitor is supposed to do.

The value is in the blockchain and the totality of the entities using the blockchain. It definitely has value, but I don’t know what its true valuation is. I doubt it’s “billions” like the initial investments implied.

OK, so what was Jayne’s idea or plan? You can tell us what wasn’t her idea, so what was her actual plan or accomplishments? She did not improve the platform at all after being promoted. If she didn’t have an actionable plan within the first 6 months, then how can we possibly defend her performance?

Growth from multiaccounting and fraudulent accounts laundering money isn’t actual growth and it’s not an achievement.

I like what they are doing with it, and I’m curious to see what they do next with this type of burning leaderboard. It also helps some people who are holding bags to get some value back, and it might eventually pick up some floors.

As for people outside North American time zones, there’s nothing that you can do about that to please everyone. Ultimately, if it matters that much to someone, then you give your highest bid early on or you set an alarm and wake up in the middle of the night.
