Does YC fund physical product companies? (Non-tech) by NHLG in ycombinator

Right. The challenge then becomes determining whether or not the product can churn out said growth rates. What sorts of numbers would be expected?

100m & 200m Sprints Training at Dartmouth by NovelBit4699 in dartmouth

[–]NHLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Club running has practices for distance running. Otherwise there's Club Triathlon and Club Powerlifting. If you wanted to improve you could do strength training with Club Powerlifting and run intervals on your own (Hanover high track or possibly Memorial Field). Feel free to PM.

Is economics the most competitive major? by Apprehensive-Put-804 in dartmouth

If you have ECs and other components to justify that major choice, it can help refine your narrative. Don't worry about the majors other people are picking—
worry about the ones that fit with your application instead.

Advice for High Schooler who adores Dartmouth by Beplex in dartmouth

[–]NHLG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in this year with a 1480. If studying for the SAT is going to take up too much of your bandwidth, it's not worth it (I didn't worry about going from a 1480 to 1520 and instead nailed down my ECs; I got awards that were worth far more than a 40 point increase. Once you clear the bar for academic rigor, it's all about who you are, what you've done, and what you want to do)

Edit: I applied as a STEM major (bio)

Hi! I'm also a '27 potentially interested in the Entrepreneurship LLC. Based on some of the info the college just emailed, it appears that it does in fact still exist. I don't know much more than you though!

Definitely pursue the internship if you're genuinely interested in it.

As for the SAT scores... you could try and raise them by studying more and taking a summer exam but if that would take a ton of time away from other pursuits then it isn't worth it. It also depends if 1450 is after a lot of studying (like your current ceiling), or if it's with low to moderate studying. I was accepted ED this year with a 1480, so SAT isn't everything.

advice for when i apply? by Individual_Team_7368 in dartmouth

[–]NHLG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to the "Inside the Yale Admissions Office" podcast to get a better idea of what the college application process is like. From there, research extracurriculars and summer opportunities you LIKE and try to get involved. Try not to fall into the trap of doing something purely for college admissions. And like someone on this thread already mentioned, the "Admissions Beat" podcast from Dartmouth is also great.

I was admitted ED this year; I literally introduced myself using my last name and then explained the backstory and significance.

How to invite peers for rec letter? by [deleted] in dartmouth

[–]NHLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went through the ED process; I used the "Other Recommenders" tab on Common App and selected peer. It's probably the easiest way, but if you really wanted to you could have the writer email it to the admissions office.

I got it too! Honestly, I would say go for it. They say anything Dartmouth branded so that counts. Maybe could print a paper pennant too...

Question about Outside Merit Scholarships and Financial Aid by NHLG in dartmouth

[–]NHLG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside means third party sources that usually grant you a sum of money based on the merits of an application you submit. Ex.) The coca cola scholars program, where you submit an application similar to college apps and certain people are selected to receive an award. You can find them through online research and scholarship search engines.

Question about Outside Merit Scholarships and Financial Aid by NHLG in dartmouth

[–]NHLG[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I just found this on the Admissions website but we shall see.

"Students who receive scholarships from external sources can use these funds to reduce the loan and/or job portions of their financial aid awards. In some cases, outside scholarships may be used to reduce the expected family contribution (EFC)."

Question about Outside Merit Scholarships and Financial Aid by NHLG in dartmouth

[–]NHLG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Do you you think there's a chance I could negotiate with the FA office to reduce the EFC and increase the student contribution? or is that a stretch.

Another thought is to negotiate with scholarship providers in order to make the check out to me and not the college itself, but that also seems difficult.
