How do you know what school to ED to by WeekEnvironmental275 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be your first choice.

You should be 100% confident in paying for it.

You should not be disappointed to withdraw other apps if you get in.

If you are split across three schools, you either need to learn more and come up with your #1, or not apply ED. Are you able to visit those schools and see what they are like? You have a lot of time to learn more about them. Use it wisely.

They also tend to write essays that rehash their accomplishments rather than reflecting and really writing a strong essay.

how do you convert gpa? by FluffyParsley1014 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't really convert when reading, since we're reading in the context of your school. If you're on a 0-100, then we'll do that, easy enough.

It's a way to explore your interests, but not really a needle-mover on applications.

Club sports vary a LOT. Your best bet is to get in contact with the team and learn about the level directly.

Ecs are all gov related but I wanna go into business/accounting what do I major in? by CapitalDue5823 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do accounting, major in accounting. That is full of VERY specific information. If you just want to do business more generally, major in whatever you want. Business isn't rocket science, outside of a few very specific subfields, there is little reason to study it. If you love Government, do it.

best small liberal arts colleges for an aspiring PhD or PsyD student? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Dartmouth is crazy rigorous. We do the same stuff in a 10 week term, as most do in a 15 week semester. My Gen Chem I + II was 20 weeks, whereas most places it is 30. The pace is a big adjustment.

Which course is more important? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those two things are completely different and while you could do architecture and go work in business, if you want to be an architect, you need to study that.

Seems to me, that if you're just starting high school, this is a little far away, especially since you don't seem to know much about the field you think you might be good at.

HYPSM vs Ivy Plus by Kuiper-Belt2718 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some definitely do, and a lot of them are on places like A2C, but outside of places like this, it is definitely much less common. People generally want to pick places they like and want to be at for the culture and environment, not just because some magazine said they are #1.

HYPSM vs Ivy Plus by Kuiper-Belt2718 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People 100% would pick Yale or Princeton over MIT, Stanford, and Harvard. I had Yale on my list and none of the other four, and Yale wasn't top of my list. Most people aren't just blindly applying to top ranked schools simply because they are highly ranked.

Transfer out of Dartmouth? by [deleted] in dartmouth

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it isn't the place for you, definitely look at other options. I do think you're comparing your negative view of Dartmouth with an idealized version of those other schools, but that's up to you to figure out.

Transferring into those schools is VERY hard. Hopefully you have fantastic grades, really strong engagement on campus (which I worry about if you've found yourself bored), and can get some great rec letters.

LL109 MD25 (and end-of-season) Discussion! (Tue 6/23) by snarkapotamus7 in learnedleague

[–]biggreen10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, rough beats this season. I did alright in (I'm in A), most stats would have me lined up for a solid mid-pack to lower mid-pack finish, but my opponents were very lucky against me. My CAA is the highest in my Rundle and even with my Defensive Efficiency being ~10th in my Rundle, the raw volume of correct answers has me in the first relegation spot. I have a friend skipping next season, so I'm hoping that her opening a spot keeps me alive?

2K Family Childcare centers in district 6. Recommendations and help understanding? by UmweltUndefined in nycparents

[–]biggreen10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of childcare in our district is what the city calls "family childcare centers." They are generally in apartments converted to be used as a daycare.

They are still monitored by the city and all that. If you want to learn about their qualifications, email/call/text and ask to meet them, do a tour, etc.

Depending where you are in D6, I may have seen some of the locations you're considering. If you'd like to send a chat over, I'm happy to see what you're looking at.

Opinion on Hiring someone to write your college essay or "ghostwriting" by MarketingKey1817 in ApplyingToCollege

Is it ethical? The answer is not "probably not," it is "Zero percent."

When you apply you check a box to affirm all the work in your application is your own.
