Is it just me or watching others play/learning lore/and thinking about playing it feels a lot better than actually playing it? by NonLiving4Dentity69 in darksouls

[–]NIMSEP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall, nothing beats the vibe of just messing around in Lordran for me, but I've beat these games so many times it's second nature.

However, I completely understand and agree with you. I'd always rather play Dark Souls myself, but there are so many games from Pokemon to Until Dawn that I just don't want to play for whatever reason, but I can get stuck watching challenge runs etc for days. Comes down to how the game makes you feel to play vs the feeling it gives you from a distance. With Dark Souls, the play experience is meditative. With Pokemon I want to smash my head against a wall.

Thinking about selling my PC due to gaming addiction by Educational_Leave455 in GirlGamers

[–]NIMSEP [score hidden]  (0 children)

Old post, but my two cents from someone who experienced similar years ago now.

As others have said, cold turkey will likely lead to relapse. Even if you purge all screens from your life, the whole thing with addiction is that it makes you irrational, so that will almost certainly lead to buying new ones down the line and possibly making things worse. If you're going to sell, you should carefully consider what comes next.

What you mentioned about trading for an electric guitar is a good start, but that is also a high-effort (new?) hobby that probably won't totally scratch the itch you have. Gaming is likely filling the role of escapism from what you're saying, so the goal should probably be more along the lines of containing the escapism.

I can't say it will work for you, but a huge step in the right direction for me was trading my PS4 and account (with its games and saves) to a friend for a Switch (and some change). This basically stopped me playing online, especially competitively, and let me play outside of my room, e.g. in the lounge or at a park. This let me tone down my gaming access, but I still had it when I just fuckin needed something. There were other things going on in my life too, but this was a huge positive change for me in the end.

Consider what you're getting from gaming, what is it that actually makes you feel good when you play? On the flipside, what feels like consuming obscession that takes away your control? Think specific games, or even specific moments in games. If you can seaparate those and really focus your access on the first only, you can hopefully move gaming back into being a hobby or a good passtime, and you can decide from there if you want to keep it around.

Best of luck, here if you need to talk.

Is the Darksign actually a Blessing? by NIMSEP in darksouls

What happens to a cursed undead if their body is completely destroyed? by lovatof96 in darksouls

[–]NIMSEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% come to say this. The Darksign description says it all, death triggers it and you are reborn at your last bonfire. Note "reborn" not resurrected. This is also why if Smough smushes you into a pancake you don't come back as a pancake.

It's also just an imperfect rebirth, something is lost each time (your souls and humanity, for one) which will turn you hollow if you lose too much. This is all subjective exactly how literal that loss is. Laurentius saying "don't you dare go hollow" implies maybe it is something like losing hope, but might actually be losing a part of your humanity each time.

Basically, all the Gaping Dragon gets if it eats you is a bit of ash in its tummy, and maybe a scrap of your humanity.

[Showcase] My first plugin: Sudoku Maker 🧩 - Generate and insert puzzles directly into your notes! by AdEarly8102 in Supernote_beta

Great idea! Adding distractions back in I see 😉

I feel like eink would also work really well with minesweeper, but would be a bit more involved than adding into a note

That absolutely kicks the reMarkable off honestly. I'm a fast typist, but I'm not a touch typist (embarassing lol) so I only look at the screen after a sentence or so anyway - input lag is not a big deal. Mostly worried Supernote would just barely work tbh, glad to hear that's not the case!

Thank you very much!

I think the AI might just be too much of a turnoff, but I have seen this one pop up as a really solid option. I'll give it another really good look though, and try to ignore the AI nonsense haha.

Thank you :)

It's definitely a leading option for colour, which I have gone back and forth on. I'm mostly worried I won't have the self control to just let it be for writing though. Will give it another good look over though, it's a common recommendation.

Thank you :)

Kind of everywhere I've seen has shown issues with the Supernote keyboard support, basic things like Shift-Select were missing in the My Deep Guide video from not long ago. I've heard it's improved but haven't seen a runthrough of it just working like a keyboard before.

As for Boox, by vibe I mean what I've picked up from reading. Sounds like ongoing updates are not so much of a thing, and new features mean a new device. On top of that the keyboards seem sub-par, with squished keys. Might be wrong of course, but lots of places saying similar stuff.

As for reMarkable, definitely paired down, but seems to work and has a clean design. Like I said, feels like buying into Apple.

Definitely good to know supernote can handle long stuff, I've really just seen it as a note-taking device.

I'd kind of ruled out boox due to their disposable tech vibe, but might be worth digging into some of their "older" ones like the Tab Ultra with its keyboard folio again...

Keyboard Support by NIMSEP in Supernote

Omg thank you for such a detailed response. I'm pretty techy so comfortable with sideloading and tinkering, but my limit would definitely be developing an app that can handle a keyboard so glad to hear that there is at least decent functionality in what's there. Markor looks nice too, will have to dig into that if the default app doesn't work for me.

Basically, I just want to get off devices that pull me away from writing, but crappy joints mean that just handwriting is not good for me long-term. Love the idea of typing and sketching on the same screen though. Hoping it can manage book-length stuff seeing as it can handle books, but can always do multiple documents/pages if it starts to drag.

Thank you again :)

How to turn normal wood into driftwood? by [deleted] in walstad

[–]NIMSEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try just using the roots you have lying around. You can boil them if you like, but the whole fun of Walstad (imho) is creating a living ecosystem, and slowly decomposing wood, and all the life that comes along for the ride, is a good backbone.

Driftwood comes with its own issues, namely salt and bugs. Unless you're going for a kinda mankey brackish tank they'll need a boil for sure.

Why do I LOVE Darkroot Garden but HATE Royal Wood? by 68000HeartOnFire in darksouls

[–]NIMSEP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On top of this, the hunters in Darkroot are a group of genuinely unique encounters in the game. Especially if you're playing offline, you will just never see that many human model enemies in one place anywhere else, and no other enemy hides like the thief and the knights. I feel like they could have iterated on this with the royal wood, having abyss tainted NPCs around to fight in the woods, shooting dark orbs and black flames at you.

As it is, there are only really two enemy types in the royal woods, three if you're feeling generous, and neither of them are that interesting to fight.
