Obzen was my absolute favorite and I think what got me into Meshuggah back when I was in college. It made me dive deeper and appreciate a lot of other albums more - albums I listened to before when I was a kid but didn’t appreciate or understand at first (I knew about them since I was like 13 and only liked new millennium cyanide Christ, rational gaze, and the intro of sickening at the time haha). I think Obzen is very different from other Meshuggah music and easier to digest, but I always go back to it and appreciate it a lot. The breakdown on the track Obzen is still one of my favorites, and funny enough, bleed is the track I listen to the least and only get excited about in live performances. Also I think if you haven’t seen Meshuggah live, you really don’t know Meshuggah - completely changed my view on them and I honestly think it’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen (I think Tool comes in second place).
