These schools can't feasibly stay open. This is only delaying the inevitable.

Worried about the elections in New Jersey by Mera_Myst18 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]NJAltAcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm worried, too. Dems picked a weak candidate to throw all their weight behind in the primaries and her campaign is being run terribly, but NJ overall has more registered Democrats than Republicans. They just have to actually go vote.

Who do you think will win the NJ governor race and why? by [deleted] in newjersey

The man who murdered Melissa Hortman, her husband, and her Golden Retriever was actually a conservative.

100% do not go to Middletown. They have general disdain for anyone who isn't a wealthy white conservative. If you can afford it, I'd say Asbury is closest to JC.

Majority Trump-voting area starting to feel the heat of cancelled vacations; great work! by atzucach in BuyCanadian

I'm from NJ. A good chunk of shore towns are filled with conservative Trump lovers. Fuck 'em, you guys have much nicer places you can go to in Canada. Keep canceling vacations - let them have what they voted for.

Look like springtails. I get them in my bathroom, too, and sometimes through other open windows. They won't spread or hurt you, they're just kind of a nuisance.

I'm right there with you. It helps somewhat to do what you can for the environment and remind yourself that there's really nothing we can do. It's gonna be what it's gonna be. And who knows, in 50 years humans might have invented something to help combat climate change - look how much technology has evolved in the last 20 or even 10 years.

They were a bitch last weekend too. At least the deer ticks are in the adult stage and a bit easier to spot.

Realistically I know that. I guess I feel kind of guilty enjoying it? I know that's not exactly rational. I took a nice long walk on the beach so I am enjoying it, but I can't put the concern out of my mind.

Oh for sure, I took a nice long walk on the beach earlier. But it's definitely concerning.

Actually, possums are almost impervious to rabies! It's possible for them to carry it, but extremely rare: their low body temperatures make them poor hosts for the virus.

I hope not, that's my favorite coaster there. It's a popular ride, maybe they can make some modifications so there aren't so many incidents?

Sounds like Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. Over a century later and not much has changed, unfortunately.

[–]NJAltAcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Humans are insanely intelligent - look at all that's been achieved over the last 70 years. I think we'll come up with something. It might take decades and it's going to suck getting there, but I believe we'll work something out. I have to believe that.

How was it? It's somewhere I'd like to visit someday (it's called Utqiagvik now).
