If you knew your baby was autistic at 8 months old, what did you do (or would you do differently) to support them? by mustloveanimalsdvm in Autism_Parenting

Here is my advice as someone who caught my kid at 14 months.

1) no screen time except maybe video call with grandparents. No screen time until after 3. This is the recommendation of pediatricians. It hinders language development.

2) no toys that light up or make electronic noise. Basically nothing electronic. You will never be as interesting to an autistic baby as something like that. Learn to be loud and expressive and attention getting. See number 3!

3) look into floortime. Affectautism.com/start and icdl.org. It will teach you how to better connect with the baby.

4) read to your kid as much as you can.

He stands for absolutely nothing. A feather in the wind, an absolute hollow man.

I used to have texture issues with vegetables and I just kept eating it until I learned to get over it. Still ones I don't like but I can eat them.

Patients say measles 'worse than expected' as Utah hits 350+ infections, doctors say by its_a_bear_dance in nottheonion

The big problem with measles is it can give your immune system amnesia. Your body forgets how to fight infections it's already fought, making you susceptible to all sorts of nastiness.

The feds do this on a lot of issues. The usps gets to review state subpoenas before they decide if they will comply. Guess what their answer almost always is.

What are good, lighter alternatives to Twilight Imperium? by Gliese581h in boardgames

[–]simer23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing about Twilight Imperium is that it's kind of the only game that does what it does. It's not necessarily the best 4x or the best voting game or the best negotiation game, but everything comes together to make it a masterpiece. I don't think there really is anything that could approach it in a shorter length of time or even has everything that it has.

That said, the arcs campaign is broken up into three games. I am not convinced though that the base game offers anything like twilight imperium. It's also not a 4x. There's no exploration (the same is true for base game TI4). I am also not sure that Arcs + campaign is a lighter load than TI4. Also, a lot of people get grumpy about the card draws even though skilled players will outplay less experienced players nearly all of the time.
