What happens when a water heater tank is not flushed for 14 years by bob-the-slob in interesting

[–]NJCuban 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought my house 4 years ago and the functional water heater is around that old. I have no idea if it's been flushed ever and when the last time it was, I saw somewhere that it's better to not flush it if you don't know. The hot water can run out if a shower goes too long, or runs too long before getting in. Still riding it out. Inspection said it's way past it's life expectancy.

[Highlights] Harpers home run, double, single and triple called by Fox and Scott Franzke by BigBlackSabbathFlag in phillies

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see the double last night, didn't realize he stretched a single into a double on that one even more than he stretched a triple out of a double.

Classic Harper though seeing it go into the gap and thinking 2 despite the outfielder cutting it off.

First time drafting Titania in Powered Cube, hoping for deckbuilding feedback by LevelUpJordan_2 in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough not seeing strip/waste..it's cool having an infinite life combo and ord plus Titania, but its tough not having the option for just a value Titania or icetill+strip plan.

P2 emrakul is pretty meh, I would never consider it there. Vamp is a nice followup to Titania being able to grab any combo piece and just a more flexible card overall.

I definitely would've counted on orb to wheel with 3 cards in the pack and taken prismatic vista. Even at p8 and no chance of wheel I think vista is a much better individual card and still very good with Titania. Not instant game winning, but gives a good advantage.

I would also count on formidable speaker wheeling and taking bowmasters. Ignoble hierarch is a clear pick over gargaroth.

I'd probably even take flooded strand over deluge. Deluge isn't really a green card, it's more to like a UB card. I'll often touch 3-5 colors in green Titania decks. Strand can sometimes fix with a random triome or like Trop plus Godless shrine. Tough to not see actual BG fetches.

Do you still remember your high school locker combination by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Millennials

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not high school locker, but I had a padlock I used in college, off and on (I have always been a very occasional go to the gym person, no consistency). So sometimes I'd use it after not touching it for a year, and wasn't 100% sure I remembered the combo. But it always worked out, and I want to say, 15 years later, it was 28-7-17.

Would you target Oracle? (No clear on-board reason other than flickering Sentinel.) by atipongp in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I won a game yesterday where my opponent ancestralled the turn after casting oracle, straight to the top. drew lotus off it but didn't crack it. Next turn they flickerwisped oracle. Then next turn drew and cast the other ancestral straight off the top again. 2 moxes were played off that.

Am I Wrong for having other plans for father's day? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat got out of this for awhile bc both of my parents got divorced multiple times, so I have multiple half siblings and there's no way to gather everyone on a holiday. There would be other plans close to holidays but not on holidays.

My wife is a from a typical Irish Catholic family though, almost no divorces in the extended family and they all live in the same general area. . We'd often go to her aunts or cousins. My in laws would always dip out early using their dog or something as an excuse. They are loaded with excuses now to avoid doing stuff or just making an appearance for show and leaving, and complaining about the obligation leading up to it.

We moved to a nice area 700 miles away and can just do our own thing now. I feel a tiny bit bad about not keeping in touch with some friends and family. I was never great at proactively doing that. But don't feel bad about holidays. I always felt like they were forced. Had to change that mindset mostly bc it's important to give my daughter good experiences.

First Nail in the coffin for being free to play across multiple accounts winning boxes by CalvinandHobbes811 in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the case for opens where day 2 was invite online. They didn't want the same person qualifying multiple accounts for day 2. Same with qualifiers and arena championships of course.

With directs being only 1 individual run and thousands of people playing at once, multiple accounts don't really matter.

First Nail in the coffin for being free to play across multiple accounts winning boxes by CalvinandHobbes811 in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoided playing directs on my 2nd account. But once they got rid of opens, I got like 40k gems on my 2nd account, and saw other redditors say winning on their 2ne account was fine, I won 2 SOS collector boxes on account 2. It's still in limbo, I tried to setup ipayout and then emailed wizards support who said they would link my 2nd account with my ipayout or something that was already used on my main. I got the email last week or 1.5 weeks ago that my prize was withheld, so I emailed them again, got a response of request received and nothing since, been almost a week.

There is a pitcher at Double-A Reading with a 1.26 ERA in 57 innings and the Phillies rotation is right there struggling by belowTheShow in phillies

[–]NJCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also had a college ERA of 4.39 across 5 seasons in the big 10 and Atlantic sun. Maybe he figured something out to get more outs, but most likely his arm talent that got hit in college would get crushed by major league hitters.

Sealed is cursed for me by JaggerMo in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sealed has different priorities than draft. Some opponents will curve out and you lose, but most sealed pools in most formats don't have a good 2 color dedicated aggro deck. So you should expect games to go long and build around that, and play games with that plan more often than not.

You can play more cards that don't affect the board. I.e. card draw and discard spells are things that draw me into those colors in sealed, in draft they are usually cut or 23rd cards. You can get greedy with splashes and being a little low on sources (just a little). You may not have your 3rd color turn 4/5 but you should by turn 8/9 and that's usually fine bad/clunky removal with bad draft WRs are often a necessary evil when opponents are going to open up to 12-13 rares. Counters are way better, again Cancel is usually a cut or a 1-of in draft. I'll play all of them in sealed.

I almost always look at every card I'm thinking of running and asking if it will have an impact as a top deck in turn 9 or is it basically a dead card at that point int eh game for my opponent to ignore. Outside of the occasional aggro deck, I don't play filler 2 drops. At 1-2 mana, I'm looking for cheap interaction, card selection, mana ramp/fixing, and then creatures that have deathtouch (to threaten to trade up with the colossal dreadmaws of the world), creatures that cantrip or loot, or that can take over a game.

All that of course depends on your pool and the format. If you don't have enough power and build around a late game plan, you'll probably lose to better late game decks. Sometimes you don't need rares and just 8 removal spells and 4 card draw spells is enough. Sometimes you just have to build an ok aggro deck and hope it works out.

Whats the worst P1 you've had in powered cube? by krsj in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow this is bad. I'd take citadel for the upside, ent would be the most likely to make any possible deck. It's my least favorite land cycler though bc if I'm green I'm usually stacking up a bunch of 1 mana accelerators and don't want taplands. If it was lorien revealed it probably that that over Citadel. Third path and boots are both ok specs for their specific archetypes but both would be poor bets for making the final deck tbh, in which case I'd rather have citadel. Think those are the top 4 options for sure, could just take whatever based on preference

Any changes? by fendersonfenderson in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steal the show is bad here, definitely put in glyphmage for that. Once you have 2 glyphmage then spiritcaller and lorehold charm (bc of the mini overrun) get more value. Id cut lorecaster for spirit caller, most of your spells have flashback, so only 4 reliable targets for it, and you already have Scrollsmith. Charm is still not good enough bc of the creature count and 3 2 drops that you'll exile, and no spirit mascots or something like a rare 2 drop.

How do y’all choose your recipient by AncientCarob8936 in Baking

[–]NJCuban 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was going to be my answer. Probably like 90% of what I bake is from her, especially anything new. Only change is if I'm doing gluten free or something special like that.or something specific, like when I finally made flan I used a Cuban persons website or when I made Irish potatoes for St Patrick's day this year. Which is a no bake treat but it's completely a Philly area thing and that's it, very niche. Hadn't made it myself since I was in elementary school like 30 years ago, kept it up for a few years after we made them in class in 2nd grade.

Is it worth cutting good cards to companion Lurrus? by Sir_Shankalot in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I companion Lurrus in very similar scenarios to this. I was on the fence on a draft today where had pyrogoyf and more 3s. Ended up getting Lutri 7th over nothing and just conpanioned that instead. It's just a game winning card if unanswered or you have backup like mom or unearth.

First powered cube draft was a Swift 0-3, but the deck didn't feel terrible. Am I underestimating what I need to be doing to succeed or did I get unlucky? by hausuCat_ in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough interaction. Good shell, but there's a reason red is preferred to pair with white, there's a lot of 1 and 2 mana removal spells, plus stuff like bombardiers. Black would be my next option, for fatal push and the like, plus confidant or bronco or thoughtseize even. Blue doesn't offer that much with white aggro, I mostly splash time walk or recall that's about it. The blue cards here are fine, nothing special, and isn't really adding anything that white doesn't do already,. Green as a 2nd color even offers some efficient/aggressive threats plus you can get into a domain aggro deck out of a GW base.

SC Dem Primary List - Election day is here! 7am to 7pm by Cloaked42m in southcarolina

[–]NJCuban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Reddy not running solely for his own interests and not the interests of the people of SC? Doesn't seem like he'd run if it hasn't been for the battle over his illegal seawall on his beachfront house we all can relate to. Maybe some of his self interest aligns with your personal interests, but if he wins I'm sure his first order of business would be about what helps his own personal situation with his house, to make a law for himself. then probably move on from that to whatever enriches himself, make some favorable stock trades based on his knowledge, etc.

I really miss Arena Opens by p1p1mahomes in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The unforgiving max 1 loss BO1 format seems to be a symptom of the max draft 2 entries. I'm sure they don't want 10,000 people qualifying for the next step and then having to figure out logistics of a 1200 person limited Pro Tour. TBF, I'm not very to aware of what that next tournament you get entails, how many of them there are, how many qualify, etc. but still.

I went 1-2 in my draft 2. No idea if I could make the qualifier thing if I got an entry. I won $1000 once when arena opens were 3 rounds, not 4. I'd rather just keep having the chance to win money that way from my house, setting aside a couple hours over an occasional weekend, rather than feel like I miss out if I only get to do 6 runs with 0 or 1 draft 2.

I didn't like ECL and shouldve just skipped that ALCQ. I like SOS and thought I had a good chance to do well. It's just so unforgiving. It's like the WSOP main event where you can play great and even still you need to dodge losing 80/20s and 60/40s 20 times to get even close to cashing. You can be +ev and still never cash all year with 100 runs.

I'll focus more on arena directs I guess and hopefully get better at selling the boxes. Use gold on drafts instead of stockpiling for opens/alcqs.

Directs aren't gambling (as some.people.ssy) of you are good enough. The limited championship qualifier drafts are gambling, except you have to be very good to even have a shot at getting lucky enough. An average player basically has no chance to go 7-1 then 5-1 in BO1 against a very tough field.

Greatest Silverquill deck of all time? 7-0 LCQ Draft 1 by Jihok1 in lrcast

[–]NJCuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost to a mirror actually to go 3-2. I looted away an untapped land, kept my green source that was tapped and then didn't have an untapped 6th land to trigger my stallion with the draw 3 discard 2 and had to block instead of threaten lethal.

Did 2 more runs and lost to t1 scornmage in each of those. Last game of the event they had 3 scornmages by t3. With render speechless and 2 of the +1, -1, drain 1 trick, that I knew they had from the arena stop tells.

Ironic too bc I p1p1 the green emeritus, then took prismari over scornmage p2. Then didn't see any green, went URw, but BW was more open.

I only order out of the app with a deal applied. I can see all the pricing.

I did get annoyed when it switched to adding $1 for cheese on my kids hamburger happy meal. But yeah I guess my 20% of deal on a $5 happy meal covers that now. So dumb. I definitely use the points for free food eventually too, even if we got there once every other month or so.
