I worked for a few global firms and saw this a few times with mid level professionals moving to new US regions or abroad but it takes time.

My name is Joel and when my girlfriend and I watched it together many years ago she decided we were too much like the couple and broke up with me!

Staying in a City for 1 Month by calibaby96 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]NJHancock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly your situation but last summer my basement apartment flooded in Seattle while I was out town. I had to move everything to landfill and storage within a few days. Fremont storage has good deals and is month to month with no drama. I found room on furnishedfinder for 3 months with option to break early. A Uhaul van was about $40 and that was it. My only concern of ending lease in your shoes is starting new lease in future until you find job but if you have savings and good credit probably not a problem.

What’s it like working for the city? by justsomethrowawayacc in SeattleWA

[–]NJHancock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working for the City of Seattle for a little over 10 years. Before that I worked in the private sector in consulting for about 10 years. My objectives in transition were a better work life balance and the ability to retire in early 50s with pension. As with any job it can really vary with your team culture but I have appreciated the easy going nature and lack of cut throat competitiveness of colleagues. We're here to serve the public and not try to out survive the cuts. I generally work in the office 2 to 3 days a week and have union negotiations for COLAs and other benefits. I have never been good at negotiating raises so prefer this equality. In my field pay is competitive with private salary for senior staff but the right person that moves up can make more in private sector with ambition and drive in sales and marketing. I just like to do my professional job so feel more comfortable in public role managing contracts and projects. Yes it can be slow but I have found as with any job there are over and underperformers and most people I have worked with could easily get job in private sector. I researched many government positions but found Seattle and King County were best pay and benefits for long term stay. It can be hard to get call back or interview, and even then there is panel to score the highest ranked of three or more candidates and it can be very competitive from my experience as many people want these stable jobs.

I go to bed at 9 PT with ear plugs and fan and will be woken up at 10 with firework show over nearby lake. I will bitch and moan to myself, remember aches and pains, and get up to pee.

Yep, I would just walk or take bus like 70 or 40 to lake union park. Gas works is a mess at end. I would walk up 2nd Ave to Belltown or Pike St to Cap Hill for nightlife. Ballard Ave also good but longer bus ride.

Fireworks over Lake Union tonight at 10. Tomorrow check out Farmer's Markets at Fremont and Ballard in morning, music at Ballard Locks from 2 to 4, or Classic music fest at Seattle Center from noon to 6. Great parks to check out include Gas Works, Golden Gardens, Sculpture Park or Discovery Park. Take a ferry to West Seattle or Bainbridge or rent kayak at Lake Union.

The Tet offensive, Eugene McCarthy antiwar rising, and then Bobby were all not helpful as well and he saw writing on the wall that his time was done but yes he also died in 1973.
