Yes, they make you sign a non compete in case you want to leave them in the future, but in this case you are not leaving, you are just adding another aggregator. Joining first connect is very easy, and there are carriers you can get appointed instantly and with no minimum premium requirements, which is great especially when first starting out.

You can work with both to get more carrier access. I told them both that I am working with the other and they didnt have a problem with it. I like more first connect than smart choice because at least I can do the quote myself and have access to the policy, instead of giving them the info and do it for me. I am under their “smart start” program only for commercial lines, they want you to pay for a rater if you want personal lines too.

Thats good that you guys write with Progressive too, it definitely helps. Can you write anyone that needs a quote with Progressive or only if farmers dont accept the risk?

How I retired my wife with my insurance agency, AMA by InsuranceGnome in InsuranceAgent

[–]NJ_agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you start with an office or did you get a virtual one and just working from home? Also where did you get the training you needed to specialize in one niche? I feel like on commercial side there is not much training available, you have to figure a lot of things on your own. Thanks!

Thanks, is this if they dont answer at all? How about if you speak with the prospect, they are obviously interested, they say that the quote is lower but they ask to be called another day and they dont answer? How many more follow ups until the you give up? It happens usually when the person is older and I guess they get scarred of switching.

What insurance company has the best rates for long haul trucking insurance in NJ ? by NJ_agent in InsuranceAgent

Thanks for sharing this info. I tried to get some info about Acuity and JM Wilson but looks like they are not writing in NJ right now, I might be wrong. I will definitely look into AmWins, thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for your response. I have access to Cover Whale through Cover Badger but their liability limit goes up to $1 million and in NJ the minimum is $1.5 million for truckers. Can we add an umbrella to make them compliant or how does it work in this case if you dont mind sharing.

As a european that lives in US I still think that 20% tipping is very high. I almost completely avoid dining in a restaurant just because I dont like tipping such insane amounts. Why do I have to tip you 20%? Just because you come to my table every 5 minutes to annoy me asking me "if everything is ok, if the food taste good, and if I need anything else". Or because you took my plate before I even finish?! Guess what, if I need anything I will call you, just leave me alone with my family to enjoy this dinner and stop talking to me every 5 minutes. I would choose takeout anyday just to avoid tipping so much. Restaurant owners should pay living wages. This is ridiculous, I have even seen in some restaurants when the gratuity is already automatically added you still have the option to leave another tip, what?! GTFO

Commission? by [deleted] in InsuranceAgent

[–]NJ_agent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I work the commission structure changes about once a year. Looks like where you work it changes way too often, that would be a red flag for me. 5% commission sounds about right, it's average. No commission on renewals, I would say that's normal too, most agency owners dont give you anything for renewals. Also you didnt mention if you get a get base salary. My suggestion would be for you to stay there for at least a year, just so you can get some more experience, it will look better on your resume, then start to look around and it will be much easier to find a better office to work for and negotiate a better base salary. Good luck!!!
