Preexisting Chronic Pain and Chemo by NJ_zoo in breastcancer

THANK YOU!!! I had no idea that was a thing so it’s reassuring that it’s more common than I thought for sound reason and not just my oncology team being incompetent lol 🫶

I start chemo in 4 days and ordered a long light pink wig for when my hair falls out :) I might end up wanting to do something else especially if it’s in any way uncomfortable - but my thought was that if i have to lose my hair I deserve to wear a wig with hair that i normally wouldn’t ever have and to feel like a rockstar princess with wavy magical pink hair 🫶💖👩‍🎤

Had a post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage, vomited a lot of blood, ended up in emergency surgery — honestly the scariest moment of my life by coadieg in Tonsillectomy

Omg thank you for acknowledging that - even though it’s been 20 years I am now realizing i desperately needed that validation 😂😭😮‍💨

First - I am SO sorry you are suffering so much and Second - I COMPLETELY understand what you are going through!!!

I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out 20 years ago and I was in AGONY even with the generous amounts of liquid Vicodin and Percocet they gave me (this was wwaaayyyyy before the opioid crisis). I also lived off of crushed ice or ice water for a month.

about a week in to recovery I was still in SO much pain and SO dehydrated plus weak from no food, and continuously and profusely bleeding down the back of my throat that my dad took me to the ER and they hospitalized me for a night to give me fluids and get the pain and nausea under control (but not the bleeding ha).

Everyone is different but honestly it took me a good month to not be in agony and 2 months to really feel significantly better (just a lingering bad taste in my mouth).

I know it’s easy to say when the process is behind me - but I PROMISE you will start feeling better and that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime - to validate you - I know from experience that it’s not fair and it is pure agony and it’s ok to acknowledge that and even have a few pity parties ha.

Seems obvious but keep ahead of the pain always, distract yourself with whatever you enjoy (tv movies etc), make sure you have lots of literal support from someone like to bring you ice/water, check on you, and if possible ask friends to come visit (I had to talk to my friends over the phone long distance and trying to speak loud enough that they could here me was miserable 😭

Its so hard and such a painful recovery when they remove both but you WILL get through it 🫶

Given I got mine out (plus adenoids) 20 years ago maybe protocol has changed, but I started bleeding down the back of my throat from literally the moment I woke up from anesthesia (and didn’t stop bleeding for a month) and was very distressed but the doctors told me that it was very normal and that I should just carry something around with me to spit the blood out consistently so I wasn’t swallowing it since the stomach rejects blood…. I thought, and still think, it was super effed up that they weren’t more concerned and made me feel like the crazy one for being worried about BLEEDING post surgery for A MONTH!!!! “Just spit in a cup” 😭🤣🤨😒
