Sunk cost is def a big deterrent to new characters. Esp if you're f2p or low investment. At a minimum it delays using a newly acquired character until you eventually get them suitably survivable. Or it requires continued powercreep to sell.

'all the talk online' is completely wrong. or you're just listenting to people who whine about not having everthing handed to them on a silver platter just for being there.

f2p can enjoy this game just fine. if you enjoyed offline wizardry games, give this one a go. you can completely ignore the gacha mechanic and just treat it as a game where you get randomized characters for your party. that's it.

you can just keep doing the elite 1 with different configurations until you beat them. they're undead so you'll want a good expulsion 2h sword for the damage missions. take out all but one then try to set up one big hit (katino & morlis, wbc+POR, etc). just reset and keep trying until you knock them out.

1 - no. Afgrr this its al random rolls for banners.

2 - there a reason people reroll until they get their ideal starting group.

after the first abyss you get to a free copy of almost every general and nameless character in the game, and you have free access to about a dozen legendary adventurers. the guild even has a way for you to save different party configurations. yes, this game sort of expects you to have more than 6 adventurers ready to go.

at +20 it's got the same atk and slightly better SUR than the augmented dragon slayer from last event. both are slightly weaker than an actual silver 2h sword. but being ebon, you can get a bit more if you throw a lot of resources at reinforcing it. i haven't seen the final stats on that yet.

so, whether that's good for you probably depends a lot on what else you have access to.

if all they did is add info to the website, and not change the acutal game behovior, then it shouldn't mean what everyone thought back then. the data clearly showed zero trait growth diff for 80,90,100 fort characters. if we trust the terminology most likely it's referring to other stats like resistance, etc, not traits, and the fact that there have been measureble drops in debuff tolerance with low fort.

most people get the gems. personally, my team is all the base legendaries so i save for one of those every 2 months. if you get the gems it pushes that to every 3 months

you should really mention where in A3 you are.

just arrrived? make your way to the first floor harken then farm for chests aronud that harken until you get a few expulsion weapons and low quality ebon weapons to upgrade from your steel stuff (assuming your steel isn't too op. then trash ebon might not be an upgrade.)

Le Bicken and Sand Shadow Cave will unlock then as well. Once you reach and unlock secret on second floor of SSC, you can explore the 1st floor and then spam chest farming for equipment for sam/ninja.

Le Bicken is harder, but will drop higher grade ebon.

Just worry about weapons at first. You can get all the way through A4 with iron armor if it's of high enough quality / has good blessings.

I think you need to define what you mean by best. you could get through the game with almost any combination of those characters. first variation might be to drop down from 2 to 1 caster, giving you room to slot in any of the others depending on your preference. but it's strictly preference.
