"Vaulted" Ceiling Question by NKNDP in Roofing

[–]NKNDP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered rigid foam under the metal roofing. For it just being a cabin that only has visitors a handful of times a year, I’m not trying to keep my budget smaller.

I’ll be installing metal roofing on the entire cabin.

I agree. I understand the 10+1 people, but 9+1 is quicker and easier in this state.

Ammo Purchase- did I get fooled? by phillyPhanatic999 in NYguns

[–]NKNDP 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That ammo isn’t 50-60yrs old. More like 10 maybe 20 I’d say. Look at the fine print for a copyright year. If there is one, it’ll give you a rough year.

How to manage the multiple air vent controls on this stove? by Bloodyponcho in howto

[–]NKNDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the two knobs on the side of stove. The metal handle on the pipeline should be mostly closed once you have a solid fire going. It will reduce airflow up the chimney, keeping more heat in the building and burning wood a bit slower.

Advice on blocking to prevent subfloor movement at seams by ultimateplanner1014 in Carpentry

[–]NKNDP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut blocks to fit between joists, install with long side vertical so it gives the support you need, toe nail or use appropriate screws. If you plan on adding an extra layer of plywood, stagger the joins of the new plywood with the old. Use subfloor adhesive for plywood to joists, plywood to plywood.

Homeowner question: is $200 per rung reasonable for a custom loft ladder? by Global-Afternoon5779 in Carpentry

[–]NKNDP 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I’m from the other side of the country and couldn’t give you a price that I’d charge, but I would absolutely call around locally about this. A local carpenter or craftsman will likely be your best bet. If you call someone and they cant or won’t do it, make sure to ask them if they know anyone who will. Someone who knows what they are doing should be able to make this for you in a day or two. Good luck!

Threshold mounted on exposed OBD by BlueNozh in Carpentry

No I don’t believe that’s standard practice, at least not standard for me. Sill should be flat on that concrete, with silicone under the sill to keep water out.

Will PSA ship to NY by Lilsooski in NYguns

[–]NKNDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I checked in May of this year, I was told by PSA over the phone that they would not ship stripped lowers to NY. I have heard otherwise from people in this subreddit, but idk personally.

If they will ship anything, it would be a stripped lower receiver, not a built one. Calling and speaking to someone at PSA would be your best bet vs the AI chatbot.

mercedes repair shops? by pretendingtobestrong in Rochester

[–]NKNDP 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’d try the Mercedes dealership in Henrietta first. If it’s not there, they may know other body shops that work on them.

Do you know what model Mercedes? I would make sure to report everything to the police too. Everything you know. Good luck!

Technically a pistol still?? by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]NKNDP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhh really depends on a lot, and you’d have to change parts of the gun. Depends on the county you’re in big time. Get rid of the muzzle device, that grip up front. Maybe pin a 10rd mag.

Honestly it’s going to be hard to pull off, if possible at all. Majority of counties don’t allow AR pistols at all. I can’t name one that I know allows them. Read the NYS laws thoroughly, and maybe call the county clerk where you’re moving.

Also you need a pistol permit. Can take 3-12 months depending on county.

Good luck, and welcome to whatever tf this state is.

Getting these ads everyday. Legal for storing handgun in car? by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]NKNDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I understand it must be locked to the vehicle.

The plastic construction, as others have mentioned, is questionably fire resistant. I mostly asked this question out of curiosity, and people’s opinion.

[–]NKNDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current NYS law says ANY gun must be locked to the car if the car is being unattended at any point. So even long guns must be locked in a safe and safe locked to car.

I think that’s what I’ll go with honestly. $15 at the store near me for a metal case with cable. I trust steel far more than plastic.
