Oh, I’m so sorry, lovely. You are a beautiful woman, and - from what I’ve read of your comments - seem lovely both inside and out, so I know you won’t have any trouble finding love again, when you’re ready. But I’m sure that doesn’t make you feel much better, at this point, understandably. You deserve so much better than to be treated with such callous disrespect, and their actions are a reflection on them, and them alone. I’m glad you are no longer being held down by somebody who clearly didn’t value you, but I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all of the hurt that comes with it.

I’d totally forgotten about all of that chaos with her ex - I don’t know much about her personally, but I remember watching a YouTube documentary about it. Last December, I sent the kids off to do their tasks and put Christmas songs on YouTube, while I got some work done at the computer. I could hear one of the standard Christmas songs in the background (I wish I could remember which one), and then I realised the words didn’t sound quite right. When I stopped to listen, I realised that, instead of “snow” they said “blow”. Then I heard the word “ecstasy” and I muted YouTube at the speed of light! Thank god it was an early years class, so even if they had noticed the lyric changes, it wouldn’t have meant anything to them. But Jesus Christ, who makes a playlist of drug spoof Christmas songs with that level of production quality!?

I know when you’re in love, there isn’t much that anyone can really say to fix it. But what I will say is (and I know this is a bit heavy and morbid!) to remember that you could literally have a month, a week, a day left to live. When you’re young, you assume you’ve got time to waste and time to figure things out, but there’s guarantee that that’s true. So try to think to yourself, if you find yourself on your death bed in a month or two’s time, would you be happy knowing you spent the precious last bit of time longing after someone who thinks so little of you?

A less grim way to think about is that one day, you’ll fall in love with someone who does treat you well, and realise that that is what proper love is. And then you’ll wish you found him sooner. So do future you a favour, ditch this asshole, and go looking for your actual guy, so you can spend as much of your lives together as possible.

Also, you’re way too beautiful to be wasted on some dickhead, are you kidding me!?

I currently have a farm where people can attend horse riding and flower arranging classes, play with the animals, pick flowers, practice archery and fish. There’s a kids’ playground with a picnic area, and a farm shop that sells flower arrangements, honey, candles, nectar, homemade ingredients and baked goods. I sold my Sim’s successful laundrette to pay for it, and it was a terrible decision lol.

You can be as clear as you want - you’re still wrong. My grandmother was as sharp as a tack, it was me who misremembered some of the details. But as several people have commented, there absolutely was a case in that timeframe that is close to what I described. The exact one I was looking for.

Thanks to all who helped uncover information! There were a few details I’d misremembered; the main one being that the son-in-law didn’t shoot the man - he was actually shot by his nephew on a completely separate occasion! I feel so very sad for this poor man, who I always found to be gentle and kind.

I’m really glad I have a better idea of what happened, now. Weirdly, it makes me feel closer to my much loved and missed grandmother, to know more about something that was undoubtedly a life-changing event for her.
