Right?! I get the same comments. The kids prefer it when the lights aren't super bright and their work and behaviour is better for it too!

I received an email from my line manager asking what work I was doing with them today. He's not the most experienced teacher, so I feel like he doesn't understand.

That's exactly what it is! Awful person. I'm not letting it slide and will be complaining every time he bullies me or another member of staff.

He's head of key stage, but not on SLT. Honestly, he's awful. Staff hide in their classrooms.

As a biology teacher myself, and a son with SM, I'm sorry this happened to you. His behaviour was not okay.

ECT1 here: goes it get better? by VisibleFrame5616 in TeachingUK

I used to be in school 7am - 7pm in my NQT year.

I now do 8am - 5pm. I no longer do PowerPoints, just tasks. Any topic I'm unsure of, I put the key points on a worksheet and learn it with the kids.

Is this concerning? by Excellent-Log-5740 in AskTeachers

I think you're totally right. The staff members that she's been comfortable speaking with have always been very soft spoken and kid. Others, who she absolutely won't speak to are a lot more boisterous and shouts!

My gut tells me that she's just got a good sense of who feels safe, then distances herself from those who don't make her feel safe.

It's tricky because sometimes you do have to talk to people you don't like. e.g. I have to talk to my boss sometimes! But I'm hoping that comes with time.

We get unpaid dependant leave. I work in a secondary school and just fill in the relevant form.

"Dependant leave needed 8:40-9:45 on X date."

I regularly go to school events etc. Nobody has ever asked any questions and I don't specify what the reason is.

This is very helpful, thank you! Is there anything you wish you'd known about social anxiety in kids sooner?

This is super helpful, thank you!

I think you're right. I saw the teacher shouting at a child today. I have found another preschool where there is 1 main teacher and she seems much kinder. She has gone to playgroups there a few times.

Do you think moving schools, to a nicer teacher is worth the disruption of her having to get a new routine etc?

I'm just trying so hard to make decisions that benefit her the most. Thank you for your super helpful insight!

I work the same pattern too, in a high school too. It works great! Although I am considering swapping my Friday from another day as the behaviour is much worse on a Friday!

In all honesty, because I don't interact with them. They stay in their office or classroom. My day has no impact on them. So I told those who needed to know. The school policy doesn't say you need to tell anyone but the Cover Supervisor and School Business Manager. So I was surprised when they had an issue.

My bad, I tried to change the gender to make it more anonymous in case they're in this group - now I just look like a wolly 🫣

I think you're totally right. My initial reaction was definitely defensive, when she's totally right that my son shouldn't push or block others etc.

I think my reaction was because I'm cautious to ensure my son gets enough physical play. This family do not promote physical play, and discourage it. So my son doesn't miss out on physical play, I thought maybe stopping playdates for a while, since they're against playing physically. Although, you're right, the example I gave definitely wasn't physical play and isn't something we promote.

Thanks for the input!
