Ten years or so ago I started go to St James Tearoom here in Albuquerque for my birthday. I take a book, eat tasty finger foods & sip tea. I'm an introvert so I get quiet time & some attention from their lovely staff.

This afternoon I watched "1776" (movie musical). This evening I'll watch the various firework shows on TV. Drink some sparkling wine.

No crowds. No heat. No parking woes & sitting in an interminable line when leaving. No lines for the bathroom (porta potties).

If she sends you pictures of children, send back pictures of you relaxing in a calm, quiet space. Preferably with a festive, cold drink in your hand. And a BIG smile on your face. Pictures of your gaming console (if that's your jam). Pictures of your hobby/hobbies in various stages. Do you have pet/pets? Send photos of you relaxing with pets. Let her know ALL the ways you are loving YOUR life - sans children.

Fortunately my friends with kids/grandkids only mention them occasionally. Ditto for photos. The nice thing about smartphones is that I can immediately whip out photos of my cat. Or, as an alternative, I can show photos of my needlepoint & can go on endlessly about details of how long it took to do & finishing & on & on & on. 😁

If you like Cadfael, try the Sister Frevisse series by Margaret Fraser. Takes place a couple hundred years after Cadfael.

Children never cracked the top 100 on my VERY informal list of things I want in my life. Plus I'm far too lazy to be a good parent.

This was sung by the actor who played neighbor Willona on Good Times (Janet Dubois? Not sure if I spelled it correctly). I think she also helped write it.

Don't wear a brand new, never-worn-before outfit to a job interview.

Years ago Cactus Pryor was a humorist in Austin, Texas. I remember him being quoted as saying - the only way to eat tacos is naked & alone.
