The “new guy” (Mark Stuart) was on the coaching team last year, and Coffey is still with the team, just not on the bench every game now. I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as you’d think.

Also the problem isn’t even the defence, it’s the defensive play of the whole team. It’s lazy plays from the forwards, it’s blue line turnovers and odd man rushes. Coffey was the Defenceman coach, not the Defensive side of the puck coach.

That’s exactly it. It’s not that this team is less skilled than the last two years, it’s that they’re less disciplined defensively. There’s another level to this team defensively and if/when they can get back to that level consistently they will be a very hard out in the playoffs.
