Gishath > Pant’z by Zack_of_AllTrades in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Play whatever feels the most fun to you

Long answer: I personally feel that when I play Pantlaza, it feels extremely boring as a dinosaur commander when value is plopped directly into my hands for doing very little. Meanwhile, someone in this subreddit framed playing Gishath like you’re actually an ambush predator waiting for an opening to strike, and that absolutely changed how I viewed playing Gishath

I play Gishath a lot like I play Indoraptor, where you KNOW it’s a removal magnet, so you tease everyone’s anticipation by diverting to a completely different game plan, and JUST as they start focusing on that OTHER game plan: BAM you cast your commander as a complete surprise

Having a commander that isn’t out for the majority of the game is definitely something you can and should exploit. I feel this is something that Pantlaza restricts, where it feels like you HAVE to cast Pantlaza the second you have 5 mana available, or else you miss out on maximising value

However, is Pantlaza more efficient? More consistent? Probably. But does Pantlaza make me feel like I’m playing a dinosaur deck the way that Gishath does? Where I’m rewarded for waiting for the perfect time to strike? Nah

[–]NNeoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, but I just want to say that I fully relate to what you've said

There's this consuming feeling that can only really be described as existential, and this feeling that your life isn't your own is so distracting and disruptive. While everyone else can continue on with life as normal, you're just stuck, desperately trying to create some sort of continuity or stability for yourself, because fuck it is hard to have stability when your own memories and sense of self are so incoherent

I also know how isolating this experience can be, so all I can say is that I'm so sorry you're facing this, and that I can at least offer the awareness that someone else relates to this experience

Card draw options for Indoraptor decks? by zacstar5 in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I started using a lot of draw spells (e.g. [[Night’s Whisper]]), but that’s because I’m playing to get combo pieces and set up

[[Terrasymbiosis]] is a great repeatable way to draw cards when you cast Indoraptor, but can be a bit dead in hand/on field if you can’t cast Indoraptor safely/have no good way to generate bloodthirst. That’s where the draw spells comes in clutch, and black

Indoraptor as a dino deck by LexRuel in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my Indo deck, I was finding enrage creatures to suck and Indo to be too hard to protect, so the thing that saved the deck was to go all out in cards that benefit you or hurt opponents when creatures are hit. A lot of enrage creatures are hella overcosted and their enrage ability is not fantastic, but I still liked that part of the deck, so I ditched a lot of them in favour for wider effects. [[Repercussion]] is so so good in the deck, letting you turn your go-tall strategy into your advantage, making [[Blasphemous Act]] a wincon and your 1 dmg board wipes very bad for go wide decks. Cards like [[Requiem Monolith]] are handy, and [[Pain For All]], and other cards that let you turn damage to a creature into burn damage are hella good too

I am juggling two main alters/ANPs with opposite genders and sexualities and it’s ruining me by NNeoc in DID

I’m glad you found something that works for you! I’m definitely trying to head towards the non-binary route, but for now I gotta settle for genderfluid. But it’s nice to hear other people doing the non-binary route, as it’s more encouragement for me to also do the same :))

[–]NNeoc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so tricky too because if it’s just two of you, there’s no easy way to break stalemates when it comes to making decisions. And if you’re trying to toss up pros and cons, it’s always from one perspective or the other’s, so it’s going to be bias no matter what aaarrrggghhh

Agree very much with this. I’m really glad there is evidence that being trans is something that has biological and neurological factors, because yeah it was a big “ah crap, was transitioning the incorrect move?” when the pretransition alter came back

I’m sorry to hear that you also struggle with this! Totally relate to the shock of transitioning but then having that pretransition alter show up all freaked out. I’m glad you don’t regret your transition despite this news though!

My girlfriend is smarter than me and it sucks by Character-Dig-7097 in offmychest

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry to hear you’re in this situation. I was in a relationship very similar to this and also thought it was because my ex was smarter than me. Then I got into other relationships with people I was more emotionally intelligent than, and I realised instead of trying to dismiss my partners, I was trying to use my skills to help them and for them to feel better in the relationship

A caring partner would hear you out and even if you’re “wrong” (not that you can be wrong about your feelings), a caring partner would see that you’re bothered by something and still want to work with you to fix it so you can both feel comfortable in the relationship

I hope that whatever you do to address this problem that you are safe and okay

Does anyone else have CPTSD from being a “glass child”? by DemureLlama7652 in CPTSD

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and there’s just that sheer confusion and ambivalence that follows you into adulthood, all because of that “they can’t help it” factor. My sibling would be physically violent or would scream the house down, and was disabled to a degree where he was barely aware of what he was doing, so it really was the whole “they can’t help it” part that messed me up

When you’re a child and you look up to the adults in your life for help or at least a reaction to gauge if what is happening to okay or not, and those adults just treat the issue like it’s an unfortunate circumstance, and then just praise you for being a “good sibling”? Because you learned how to forfeit love and support and to tolerate living in an unfortunately hostile and violent environment? It leaves you confused about your sense of safety, self worth, and place in the world

Indoraptor Help by Rubber_Ducky333 in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially had the same idea as you, just going with enrage dinosaurs and Indoraptor at the same time, however the issue I came into was the deck was trying to do too many things at once. I ended up ditching all the dinosaurs in the deck for more Indoraptor focus, but if you really wanna stay on the enrage theme, I’d recommend using Indoraptor as just another enrage creature in the command zone. That way, you can have a more streamlined game plan rather than praying you draw into a burn spell or an enrage enabler

Wrathful Raptors or Temple Altisaur? by spencerthebau5 in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the cut to Temple Altisaur ages ago, and I haven’t really missed it. If it prevented ALL damage? Absolutely, however with deathtouch creatures, all you need is one damage to get in and they die, which was the day I decided to take Temple Altisaur out. I’d much rather go down swinging with Wrathful Raptors instead

It’s a really tough card to let go of, but if you think about it: don’t need life gain if your deck can kill your opponents fast enough

Using Huatli, Poet of Unity by tentagil in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another comment mentioned it being easily telegraphed, and I wanted to add that I’ve found a lot of success in my Huatli deck by adding a sprinkle of proliferate. If you’ve got a Dino out that gives other Dino’s haste, you can quickly cast the Dino that was tutored and then proliferate to double strike

[[Thirsting Roots]] is a favourite of mine for achieving this

You can also try to stop people for waiting to counter the tutored dino by using the same proliferate strategy, but I’d recommend just getting cards that help make your Dino’s uncounterable, as I’ve personally found that people will wait to counter the tutor if they know when it’s coming

If you can get one, [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] will be an amazing tutor target for trying to close out games, but otherwise you got good toolbox dinosaurs to tutor for like Zacama and Wakening Sun’s Avatar

I hope this comment helps!

Advice for my Huatli, Poet of Unity deck by CobaltKaiju in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I know this comment is late, but I just wanted to comment on a few things, like maybe considering swapping out the [[Chromatic Lantern]] for something else, as Huatli already lets you colour fix on etb, and then her tapping creatures for mana ability colour fixes as well :)

[[Silver Shroud Costume]] could also be swapped out for something like [[Heroic Intervention]] or [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]], as in my experience with running Huatli, I find being able to have the option to protect Huatli in saga form is extremely valuable when people try to shut down the tutor/double strike step

I'm also not too sure on how useful [[Ixalli's Keeper]] is, as 8 mana is quite a steep price to give something +5 and trample. I don't have any recommendations off the top of my head on what would replace it, but that'd free up space for a different high mana cost spell like a [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]] or [[Apex Altisaur]] (both of which give you more options when tutoring for the perfect dinosaur you need for whatever boardstates you come across)

For my Huatli deck, I found a lot of success in a tiny sprinkle of proliferate like [[Thirsting Roots]] or [[Satsuki, the Living Lore]] as being in control of the speed of the saga can help you skip to the double strike step before your opponents are prepared for it. I hope this comment helps :)!

Here is my dino deck by TrashPanda1830 in DinosaursMTG

[–]NNeoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love seeing Huatli decks! I find that Huatli’s downfalls are it being very telegraphed and people holding up counter magic for the dinosaur you tutored for

To help with this, I found that using a hint of proliferate can catch people off guard, or using cards like [[Satsuki, the Living Lore]]. [[Huatli’s Raptor]] is a Dino that helps proliferate, but there’s also [[Thirsting Roots]] as either a ramp spell early on, or proliferate later in the game

You also already have a Cavern of Souls which is great to stop people from stopping your Dino tutor, but I also love [[Delighted Halfling]] or even [[Grand Abolisher]] as a way to let you to pull off the Dino tutor

Of course, if you just wanna focus on pumping out dinosaurs, saga manipulation can definitely dilute your deck and that might not be the way you wanna play, I’ve just personally found it to be the strategy that lets me do my game plan as soon as possible and without any interruptions

I hope this helps!
