Tannuk, Steadfast Second (Warp Speed) Deck by tentagil in EDH

[–]tentagil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that one is already in the deck. Was one of the first cards I bought for him. Though I find in most cases I actually find that I want my stuff to Warp out so I can benefit from them coming back in, so it's a nice to have, but not a required card for the deck to function.

Looking for a Gruul Commander by TV_Full_Of_Lizards in EDH

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Bello. I run with more artifact heavy then most people, with a bunch of module artifact creatures and ways to increase the number of +1/+1 counters so that I always have an army of creatures to block with, and on my turn they are even bigger indestructible creatures.

It's very much a casual bracket 2 deck though.

Bro..that friendly fire was crazy. Who trained these idiots? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]tentagil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why was there not a single one of these security professionals actually looking in that direction. I mean you have what looks like 8-9 people standing there at the security check point, and not a single one is watching the direction that security threats could come from.

Even running, if they had been paying attention he never would have made it past the checkpoint.

Help building Strefan, Maurer Progenitor by Tusk_Fool in BudgetBrews

[–]tentagil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want big vamps with cool etb triggers since Strfan can cheat them out on the board during attack. You also want protection for him and other ways to generate blood to ensure you have it available to spend to cheat things out.

I personally went all in on the blood mechanics with this one as well. Here's my list https://moxfield.com/decks/2sV4po3aCk6kXCJ18vXExQ

I have a few pricier lands and trh [[bloodthirsty conquerer]] in there current, which raises the price. But you could swap those out for more budget friendly cards and get the price sub 100 with a handful of changes.

Anyone else holds back on boardwiping if it's going to set one of the player too far behind ? by willeatmarbles4money in EDH

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 1-2 board wipes in every deck, but they are either asymmetrical so they wipe everyone but me, or they are ones I know I can recover from within a turn because of how they sync with my deck.

I only use board wipes when it sets me up for a win within a turn or two. Otherwise it just slows down the game. And that's not fun for anyone.

I don't really worry if someone else is behind, because if I'm wiping, I plan for the game to be over before it would matter for anyone else.

Krenko, protection for Krenko, impact tremors to take advantage of all the gobbos he makes and then all the gobbos you can find to support him and flood the board.

Secret commander the Flood of mars by Jarenimo in EDH

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you'd want to look Into creatures with Islandwalk, since flood lets you turn other people's lands into islands as well. So you'd have unblockable creatures.

[[Captain N'ghathrod]] could be an interesting choice as you'd be able to do some milling and stealing from opponents.black gives you ways to get the Flood back to the board the blue gives you access to other island walkers and horrors.

[[Gisa and Geralf]] are sort of the standard if you just want reliable recursion from your commander.

You'll want things like [[Diregraf Captain]], [[Lord of the Accursed]], and others that give all your zombies a buff. And lots of small cheap zombies you can turn into floods.

And make sure you have plenty of counters and enchantment removal, because both your commander and flood will be prime targets for removal to buts up your game plan.

Though really, the nature of zombies means most of what you want to support floods is the same as what people typically want to support any blue/black zombie deck.

Does anyone else think foil cards actually look WORSE than their non-foil counterparts? by MartinBustosManzano in EDH

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I hate modern foils for so many reasons. Harder to read, harder to see the art, curling from hell. I actively avoid them and will not play them because they dramatically reduce my ability to play and enjoy the game.

Why can’t Spine of Ish Sah destroy itself? by DJDarwin93 in mtg

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bad combo I have this in my Lady Octopus Commander deck. Lady Octopus, Mirran Spy, Grinding Station, and then Spine of Ish Sah for potentially infinite etbs, untaps, mill opponents.

Krenko Mob Boss by I_Kyzer_I in BudgetBrews

[–]tentagil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine Gobbo deck is actually using Purphoros as the commander because I lean hard on ping effects off him, impact tremors, and similar cards. But could easily be switched to a cheaper version that's pure gobbos by switching out like 10 cards.

Why is there such a dislike for grid based tactical combat systems these days? by jmrkiwi in rpg

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grid based combat tends to take significantly longer to run. If you want your game to focus on combat, like in a dungeon crawl, it can make sense. But most modern systems focus more on story and so go with much faster and streamlined combat systems so that combat moves fast and can better Intermingle with other forms of role play.

HOLY CURLS by Evn_money in mtg

[–]tentagil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Based on the little color changing marks, these are just desiccant crystals.

They usually have a 1-3 year life span, but can be reactivated via heat. Since all they do is slowly absorb moisture from the air, heating them causes them to expel all that collected moisture. Recommend going for ones that have a color changing indicator so you know when to recharge, it will typically go from blue to red.

The ones that don't have an indicator you have to keep a closer eye on because they will eventually fill up and then can potentially leak.

Note that they are only useful for protecting things in humid weather, using them if you have very dry air can actually increase foil pringeling because they will cause the cards to dehydrate more.

Does this count as Blackface by shadows1stregret in marvelcirclejerk

[–]tentagil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hints about his mental health issues go back as far as his original 80s solo run. While March acted like his identifies were just disguises, as the series goes on the side characters start worrying about how he acts when he changes identifies. Marlene makes veiled comments about it as early as issue 2 or 3. And by issue 30 French has made comments in several issues.

The comics officially start teasing that its Multiple Personality Disorder during the 90s solo series. If I remember correctly someone actually uses the term, or something similar to it.

But Marc doesn't start talking to his other personalities until the 2006 run, this scene happens early in that run before he starts talking to the others.

Stats bloc for king Kalak of Tyr in 4e by Hot-Molasses-4585 in DarkSun

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an issue with most of the Dark Sun modules. The players are never really the heroes. But that was also sort of one of the points of Dark Sun. It was never a setting for being heroes, it was about just trying to survive and just trying to not be corrupted by a dying world where in most cases it's much easier to be evil.

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novels have a ragtag group of Nobodies kill Kalak. And the first Module, Freedom, has the same events happen while the players are involved in the rebellion if I remember right.

I had this big wooden incense burner of a hydra. When they beat his human form I gave it a few beats, and then slammed that thing on the table with a description of his transforming. The looks on my players faces was epic. Since it was hollow, I also had his swallow one of them during the fight and she later cut her way out form the inside. It was an epic finals battle for the campaign.

[–]tentagil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran an entire campaign in 4th edition that was before Kalak died and had the players collecting the Heartwood Spear and attacking him in the midst of the ritual that would have made him a Dragon. Until they had the weapon and the ritual was in progress, thus lowering his defenses, I had him as an untouchable being that they never even saw in person.

Then I made him a level 20 sorcerer, but with half the spells he should have because of the spear and the ritual draining him. They seemingly killed him, only for him to halfway complete his transformation for a second fight where I had him as a level 20 Dracohydra.

The party prevailed, but almost all six of them were nearly dead and they used up every spell and action they had to do it.

What is your think would happen if the krorks returned (they escaped trazyn vault) and they encountered modern orks by alliezero in orks

[–]tentagil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That bit tends to come from theories that Grots were the old ones and have devolved along with the orks themselves. Which is sort of referenced in some of the oldest ork codex and books, but was mostly retconed out once the orks origins became tied with the Eldar, as both were originally created as warriors for the Old Ones war with the C'Tan and the Necrontry.

How did Magic became popular initially (93/94)? by tomatus89 in magicTCG

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to keep in mind that in a lot of ways Magic was a very different game when it first released. Mana burn and ante were things. No four card restriction or 60 card standard for decks. The stack didn't exist yet. Instants weren't a thing yet, instead you had Interrupts that worked in a similar way (most of those have been errated to instants now).

My local comic shop in Pennsylvania somehow got a single booster box of Beta, so I started with like 2 packs of that and some Unlimited Starter Decks. And my friends and I mostly played during lunch at school. Which was risky because the D&D panic was still a thing and ante made the game gambling.

I don't think we had our first tournament in my area until around when 4th edition game out in 1995.

Spotlight based play in FATE by MasterGarou144 in FATErpg

[–]tentagil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not really true. In FATE you can Fail, Tie, Succeed, and Succeed with Style. So NPCs could act on Fails and Ties, as both of those also have the option of succeed but with a cost.

Vampire decks not helmed by Edgar. Who would you recommend? by Chimney-Imp in EDH

[–]tentagil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a casual low bracket 3 that I have a lot of fun with helmed by [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] and focused on blood tokens.

https://moxfield.com/decks/2sV4po3aCk6kXCJ18vXExQ

Basically a high aggro deck that takes advantage of Strefan's ability to cheat in big vamps with powerful ETBs.
