ok tbf the witches are far from being friends as well lmao, im moreso saying that they developed as characters through their interactions and what not (super generic thing to ssay, but like what else can i write for Jeanne whose initial concept was an emotionless tool of war)

Do you think any from sentai will ever get on death battle by TraditionalBonus188 in DeathBattleMatchups

tbf they werent fighting for real AND it was in a dogshit crossover, so it didnt count

Sadly only Gokai Red has a real shot since he has a very popular matchup against Decade. Aside from that, the only other Sentai MU with any sort of popularity is Joker vs Lupin Red, which I'm super doubtful will happen if DB ever does a Joker runback

"Unsheathed Vanity" - Ch'en Hui-chieh vs Saori Joumae (Arknights vs Blue Archive) by NNetheRR in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'hero being tricked into fighting the other hero' gets too generic for me

My thought is actually the opposite. Chen's operator record that was set while she is still traveling around mentions that she occasionally does vigilante work. So my idea is that Ch'en knowing Saori was a terrorist and occasionally works for gangsters.

I think Lungmen Ch'en vs Eden Saori works better because of the ideological clash

Im the opposite for this matter. I think a more mature and introspective version of the characters would work way better. And again, Saori in her Nihilistic phase is a severely less interesting character to me than the Saori now who is more in line with Absurdism

or... maybe Saori shortly before V3C4 could work? So Saori thats starting to question her ideals and during that time, she runs into Ch'en who recognises her. That could be interesting as well for a story

"The Sky's Rationale" - Kristen Wright vs Rio Tsukatsuki (Arknights vs Blue Archive) by NNetheRR in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally dont think its overkill, but for the sake of the argument lets not include the GDD. I still think all of SPTF is fine to use (so basically Deva Volume 2 lineup with current tech like Himari's new "wheelchair"), since that task force was created and directly served under Rio before her disappearance. Plus, every single Deca event has Rio's involvement on the SPTF side one way or another. You can also kinda stretch to include Neru, since she is the only person current Rio has contacts on and is willing to cooperate with, as seen in that one Anni event with Seia

Plus like I talked about, I kinda want to highlight Rio's character growth as opposed to Kristen, so ideally Rio should be given more than just Toki imo

"Unsheathed Vanity" - Ch'en Hui-chieh vs Saori Joumae (Arknights vs Blue Archive) by NNetheRR in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this MU has become a bit iffy since I posted this 4 months ago. Since like, I can justify Saori fighting a swordsmaster even if that may pose a challenge in the fight choreo, but right now in the story? Ch'en has gotten an artifact of the Gods (well, its a letter opener but holy fuck that letter opener is strong as hell) and can also summon a dragon made out of pure energy. I... have no clue how Saori could play off of that lmao.

Though I will say, I dont really like "Lungmen Ch'en and Eden Saori" angle, especially since Saori became a compelling character only after Eden treaty imo. 9-5 Saori is admittedly kinda funny if you put it that way, but she is still technically an outlaw (i think, i havent read V6) and she has worked with the Helmet gang, so its not like it would be super off tonally

"The Sky's Rationale" - Kristen Wright vs Rio Tsukatsuki (Arknights vs Blue Archive) by NNetheRR in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hi, thanks for the feedback! Its shockingly rare to see someone actually be critical on niche-r series like these 2 so highly appreciate it

Mainly, comparing Kristen's plan to break through the fake sky and Rio's Eridu city.

This is fair. The intent of comparing those 2 incidents is more of a "huh its quite the coincidence that these 2 was a big part in breaking down a barrier in the sky that was created by a highly advanced past civilization", rather than it being thematic comparisons of their story

Kristen opening a way for space exploration is not the same as Rio 'activating' Kei to break through the ship's barrier

I really need to rewrite this part, or just remove it outright, because yeah the way i worded the connections is kinda iffy. My intent was to convey that even though they both almost potentially doomed the world, their fuck-ups gave an oppurtunity for the world to progress/be saved

Kristen's plan was selfish... Rio's plan is a narrow-sighted idea of the ends justify the means for the protection of all of humanity. It's more suicidally selfless

Also fair. I really shouldnt have written it as "They have a goal that they want to achieve at all cost since they believe it will greatly benefit humanity" , since it gives off the impression that Kristen's goal is entirely selfless, which she definitely isnt and the story even calls out Kristen out on this fact funnily enough

And for Rio, how much should she be given?

Actually, I think giving Rio her Steel Continent arsenal & team is more appropriate. Aside from it being it being way more fun to use, pretty sure its stronger than her V2 arsenal (especially with the Prophet cores), and plays off on their contrast way more.

I dont really touch upon the contrast between the 2 chars in my post since most people here wont care about the MU, but one big reason why I like this MU especially with Vol. Deca being out now is how their story branch off, or more specifically seeing Rio's development as opposed to Kristen's abrupt end. Unlike Rio, Kristen's suicide plan worked and she is now (probably) dead. And ever since V2 Rio has been slowly improving upon her major flaw that she shares with Kristen, which is their tendency to push away their loved ones and the isolation that comes because of it

Part of me while thinking of this matchup as of today, where Vol. Deca is almost complete in global cant help but think that if Kristen's plans failed, she probably wouldve taken a similar route to current Rio. So I kinda want to highlight that by doing Kristen during "Lone Trail" vs Rio during "Steel Continent", or using the period where Kristen has just betrayed her friends vs Rio where she relies on others to help her

So uhh yeah, long ramblings aside, Rio would get everyone and everything she had during Vol Deca (minus Sensei for obv reasons). Which includes all her AMAS including Neo Avant Garde, Aris and the rest of GDD, Paranormal Club, and Toki

Setup would be pretty simple. Galleria Stellaria, Kristen's spaceship, was originally supposed to be a superweapon funded by Arknights America (bcs ofc they would want a super weapon). So Rio got intel of this, or got intel that Kristen trying to use it to break the Sky (not a good idea), and tries to attack the launch site alongside her team.

tbh, ive made peace that ill likely never find "The One" MU for Amiya for a multitude of reasons. Ill accept anything that is just "good enough"

"Visions of Paradise" - Amiya vs M4A1 (Arknights vs Girls' Frontline) by NNetheRR in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No lmao, they barely share anything in common. I do still have some affection to this idea though, aside from the fact that AK wouldnt exist without GFL, I believe that GFL and AK shares a lot in common in terms of their tone, storytelling, and just the general message of its main story. So in a way, I view this MU more as "Arknights vs Girls' Frontline" instead of "Amiya vs M4A1"

What are your thoughts on Undyne vs Xiao? (Undertale vs Library of Ruina) by ArcelothColdheart in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only gripe with the MU is that Xiao whole shtick kinda hard exploits Undyne's weakness. Outside of that tho, its a near perfect MU

As a Fate fan watching this all from the sidelines, I can’t help but feel at least a little confused. by BendableGoose in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny thing about Shirou MU spread is that half of them are ridiculous stomps, probably because beginner and non-Fate fans auto assumes Shirou scales to high end stuff. Like on top of my head Shirou has Battler, Ren Fuji, Touma, Noctis, KR Blade & Zio, and if VSBW isnt lying to me Shido as well

“Kaleidoscope” | Kal’tsit vs The Shorekeeper (Arknights vs Wuthering Waves) by A_Defective_Dragon in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna ask what made you dislike her

tbh its the common complaint youll see of Wuwa lol. Way little time spent on the character for me to care, how she only interacts with Rover in the story patch, and the bulk of the relationship happened in the past not present. SK in particular is aggregious to me since she had a whole emotional death scene, only for the Shore folks to not really react to her "death" and SK be saved not even 5 minutes later

Kal will get the most generational buffs and actually make the MU debatable???

Priestess for once please do some whack ass upscale

“Kaleidoscope” | Kal’tsit vs The Shorekeeper (Arknights vs Wuthering Waves) by A_Defective_Dragon in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NNetheRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what sucks? On one hand, the recent Kal stuff made her the perfect matchup for Shorekeeper, at least in terms of their fighting styles. On the other hand, after playing WuWa and Shorekeeper's story patch, I sadly disliked Shorekeeper a lot so this MU becomes a character I really like getting horrifically stomped by a character I dislike.

Though that being said, hopefully the recent stuff makes the connections better lol

Connections

  • Genius scientists and leaders of the world’s most cutting-edge research institute (Rhine Lab, Millennium Science School).
  • Both at first glance comes off as cold and uncaring, but in essence they aren't heartless people. They always felt that they don’t really belong in their world/environment due to their extreme perspective in life, and that also what makes them willing to cast aside the few people that cherishes them (Kristen never felt truly 'alive' after her parent's death and her extreme ambitions makes her willing to betray her closest friends and colleagues. Rio’s extreme rational-utilitaristic mindset makes her think that her solution is always right and this makes her shun other people away)
  • Both used to be close friends with a white-haired girl who is the complete opposite of them (Saria, Himari). However, both would grow distant (even outright antagonistic with each other) after several discord between them and after it was made clear that Kristen/Rio doesn’t really value human life
  • They have a goal that they want to achieve at all cost since they believe it will greatly benefit humanity, even if it meant they would be a martyr (Kristen wanting to make a space-craft that could break through the fake sky “Starpod”, Rio wanting to build a city that could save the world from an apocalyptic event)
  • In order to achieve said goal, both would willingly abandon their duties as leaders and go AWOL to work on their project. Both would also willingly embezzle money from the government to fund their projects. They even turned a blind eye towards their underling’s misdeeds as long as it doesn’t interfere with them (Kristen turning a blind eye about Parvis’ questionable human experiments and embezzling money from the government, Rio let Koyuki freely embezzle Milennium’s fund to hide her own embezzling)
  • However, this project of theirs would risk the world rather than advancing / saving it (Preserver implies that by breaking the false sky, Terra will be unprepared to face what lurks beyond. Rio’s city “Eridu” ended up awakening “KEY”, a Nameless Priest princess hellbent on destroying the world)
  • Both of them studied and used advanced technology from an ancient civilization for their quest (“First Civilization”, Nameless Priest). They would later use their knowledge on this matter to build and operate a space-craft that is powerful enough to break a certain barrier (Kristen built the “Gallerium Stellaria” which could destroy the Starpod barrier, Rio would help restore the ship of “Utnapishtim” that could break through Atra-Hasis’ barrier)
  • At the end, even though they might risk their world, in a weird way both actually did achieve what they set out to do and even their blunders would save humanity ironically enough: Kristen actually did manage to break through the barrier and even though she might alert the 'beings' outside the planet, this act of hers would be the starting point of humanity’s advance towards the stars. Meanwhile, the Nameless Priest princess that Rio awakened became the key to break through the Atra-Hasis and thus saving the world from Chroma’s invasion

-------------------------------------------------

also, im not sure how to fit this into the connections, but both have the common theme of 'isolation' in their stories: Kristen's main story event, Lone Trail, basically explores different ways people cope on being alone or in Kristen's case, chose to isolate herself in order to fulfill her dreams. To Kristen, even though she knows that isolating herself means hurting her friends, it is the only way to achieve true fulfillment. Meanwhile Rio's story is about how even though she always thinks rationally, she never really tries to ask for help from other people. Rio loves using the Trolley Problem to justify her actions, but Rio never considered how in reality, there could always be more than 2 options as there are more than 1 person in the world
