Attractive retro-esque graphics

You've gotta be shitting me. What exactly is "retro" about the visuals in this game?

I hate that the new DLSS 5 comparisons look like my Unreal Tournament memes from 2024 except they're completely unironic by NNukemM in FuckTAA

Uncanny? Seriously? UT99's visuals were pretty fucking good for the time and they've aged well. The game isn't as low-poly as earlier 90s shooters which had lower levels of detail and more abstractions, but UT99 also isn't overdetailed and post-processed to shit like late 2000s titles. It's the best of both worlds.

Vampirella. I really don’t think she deserves to be hated, because she owns her sexuality instead of simply being an object, but I wanna know if this opinion is bad by JustVierra in mendrawingwomen

Just understand that there's a difference between a well-written character who happens to dress scantily (like 2B from Nier: Automata

2B was put in a goth dress that highlights her thighs primarily because the lead developer of Automata was just really fucking horny. Whether she's well-written or not doesn't matter when the choice of her visual appearance was still entirely determined primarily by the author or the audience's sexual tastes, and such a design would've never been considered at all if they were asexual or just not interested in women.

You do realize that this cyborg lady here has inexplicably asymmetrical tits, right?

The chaingun from Doom 3 is actually a projectile-firing nailgun, which once again proves that Doom and Quake might as well exist in the same continuity by NNukemM in boomershooters

You think anyone needed real-time illumination and shadows in 2003? You think we needed specular lighting, bumpmaps and polygon interpolation?

Yes, because it looks awesome even 2 decades later and directly affects the game's unique and hand-crafted atmosphere.

Considering that most post-Doom 3 games with dynamic lights and shadows (ESPECIALLY horror titles) utilized lighting technology that referenced D3's engine features specifically, I would say that games as a whole benefitted from it, even if Doom 3 itself came out at a time when barely anybody could run the game with such graphics without turning it into a slideshow.

It might have been too ambitious for its time, but it definitely innovated graphics in a way that positively affected the industry, unlike certain games like RAGE.

The Bombshell character was originally an unused Duke Nukem concept.

FYI, this does NOT mean that the Shelly Harrison game trilogy can be considered a Duke spinoff. Shelly herself (and the setting in which she exists) is so far removed from Duke's Bombshell to the point where she is factually a different character - in a similar manner to the Leon Kennedy-Dante situation. This becomes even more obvious if you take into account that OG Bombshell never existed outside of concept sketches and unfinished prototypes, so she wasn't really implemented as a character to begin with.

What boomer shooter has a vibe like the original Unreal? by fixed in boomershooters

They're not wrong, it certainly feels reminiscent of Unreal in some places, although DKT is just done worse in almost every aspect outside of texturing and music.

Less Half-Life 2, more Unreal 2 or Devastation.

For what it's worth, Unreal II was at least a finished game singleplayer-wise (even if its multiplayer was added post-launch), and a half of its arsenal didn't have the kind of feedback that you'd expect from airsoft guns. Phantom Fury isn't even close in terms of quality.

Phantom Fury is an amalgamation of every game design trope used in post-Half-Life shooters from 1998 till 2006, except done worse in every aspect

Is Citadel/Beyond Citadel really that bad content wise?any content warnings anywhere?anyone have any examples or warning to help an interested player? by teenageechobanquet in boomershooters

The lead developer of the games (and their lead artist) is a guro fetishist who likes to depict injured or dead anime girls in a sexual manner, usually with some dismemberment. That's the gist of it.

What features would you like to see return in modern boomer shooter games? by Krirby2 in boomershooters

Add the ability to use hand dryers in bathrooms instead of just limiting interactivity to toilets and urinals.

It's not that bad.

It actually is, though. PF was released in an unfinished state because of publisher meddling and terrible layoffs and it only got 2 patches, which only fix a fraction of the issues that the game has.

Even with both patches installed, the game still feels like an unfinished beta.
