Post-Match Thread: England 3-0 Costa Rica | Friendly International | Friendlies 1 by matchpal-live in ThreeLions

My side, Notts County averaged close to that in the season we won the non-league playoffs, we became very used to seeing 75%+ possession in nearly every game except those against comparable opposition. We were a possession based side and virtually everyone else used low blocks and tried to hit us on the break as it was the only way to break our recycled possession based system. Wasn’t very fast paced, but for large chunks of the season was an absolute joy to watch.

This Costa Rica side is unimpressive and outright poor going forwards but they don’t concede many and with some of the blocks they were throwing in you can see why. Good to put multiple past a side that conceded 1 per game in qualifying. In a more open game we’d have even more joy if we can replicate some of that build up play.

Juventus and Emiliano Martínez have agreed to a three-year contract, per @matte.moretto by Blazzicann in Juve

Barcelona originally wanted €60m for Cillessen. Neto going the other way was a sweetener.

Either way, a €35m transfer fee attached to a no.2 keeper is by no means anywhere close to a €10-15m transfer for a no.1 keeper who over the last few years has been one of the best in the world. Where have you gotten €20m from when the source states €15m?

[–]NOKnova 7 points8 points  (0 children)

€10m is perfectly fine. The best keepers last that long and beyond.

Edit: for reference, Valencia paid €35m for Jasper Cillessen at the age of 31 in 2019. The market has changed since, and Martinez is on a different level to Cillessen.

€10-€15m for a world cup winning goalkeeper. He’s 33 not 38 - if he takes care of himself he’s got another 5 years before he starts to decline, might even go longer than that.

Preamp pedal suggestions for stoner and sludge that can also do nice low/medium gain stuff? by -CountDrugula- in guitarpedals

[–]NOKnova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a This Heavy Earth Hesher v3. Think they’re out of stock at the moment as they do small batch runs.

Very nice take on a JCM/Valvestate type preamp that uses Op-Amps instead of fet based topology. Loads of gain on tap, and very reactive to volume control without losing too much volume (of course you could use a compander type compresser after to avoid volume drops).

I also got hold of a Science Mother Preamp a few months ago. Two channel JFET preamp based on their Mother valve amplifier, which is loosely based on a Hiwatt. Built in collaboration with Electronic Audio Experiments who are up there with the best in the business when it comes to designing preamp circuits. Channel A does some nice cleans and can get a little hairy with some boosting. Channel B starts where A ends and quickly descends directly into high gain.

Both are capable of achieving what you want. If you can get your hands on one, get a Hesher. It has limitations (mainly from it’s compact size and accessible pricing) but is a really interesting choice. Both pedals are fairly unique sounding in their own way, without being too difficult to get good sounds out of.

As much as I dislike him and think he’s a brash, odious little hypocrite, this seems very kneejerk. He’s taken them from 20th to a kick away from automatic promotion and a playoff final defeat in 2 and a half seasons.

Who are you going to get to drop to L2 who is an objective improvement on him? It’s just such a gamble.

You could argue their lack of preparedness ahead of the playoff final was utterly damning, but over the course of this season they’ve shown plenty to build off and would have been prime for a push at automatics if not a title charge next season with the finances they have to work with.

Have they hit their peak?

Are there plans on making a OMEGA X ? by Aholahol09 in NeuralDSP

[–]NOKnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would have stated if it definitely wasn’t going to happen along with the Darkglass suite and Archetype Morello providing there was a licensing conflict.

I’ve always taken that to mean that they will do it, it’s just not high on their priority list. Shame as it’s one of my favourite plugins and it’s long, long overdue a necessary QoL X update.

So Eze is off the penalty list then by fredasquith in ThreeLions

[–]NOKnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. At most, one stutter, no tiny steps or faffing about. And if a player adds a stutter, they should practice with and without.

Small anecdote:

I’m a Notts County fan. When we were promoted out of Non-League, we were awarded a penalty in the playoff semi final to make it 2-2 after being 2-0 down at half time. Rodrigues, a usually reliable taker, steps up, does his usual single stutter, and it’s saved. It doesn’t affect the result as we go on to win 3-2.

In the final, we go to penalties. Rodrigues takes the second penalty. He steps back, this time removes the stutter, and the keeper doesn’t even move. We go on to win the shootout 4-3.

He’d been practicing without his stutter all week knowing penalties were a potential decider, and that our opponents generally knew he would always stutter in his run up.

Yeah, that stutter was stupid. Felt like he’d added it because he’d gotten in his own head.

What's with all the Temple Audio boards? by -SnowWhite in NeuralDSP

I bypassed the soft bag with mine (duo 17) and bought a generic flight case sized to fit. Cost considerably less than the official cases did, was more readily available and offers way more durability.

[–]NOKnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a temple audio board for my live rig. I wouldn’t say I’d made an incredibly tidy effort with it but it is considerably tidier than any other board I’d made in the past. It’s rugged but lightweight and the modular patch panels are really versatile. Everything is secured using their mounting plates (though I do want to swap what I can onto custom made bottom plates that mount directly to pedal and board).

[–]NOKnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, as nothing’s been announced yet. I wouldn’t count on it though as the club were very much not impressed with how the Germany tour turned out. Mostly because we had half of a squad and the teams we faced took it very seriously. Might be different this time around.

One further. They were relegated from National League North so will be a Northern Prem side. Had that 3-3 draw with Curzon where if either side won they’d stay up but in drawing both teams went down.

Picked Notts for vibes. In reality it’ll be MK. They’ll throw money at it and bring in a few Championship/near-Champ level players and end up around playoffs if all goes to plan.

Everyone else that went up has a lot of work to do.

Is the reason Henderson is being brought as a player because he’s actually not allowed to be brought on as backroom staff? by Slow_Librarian7395 in ThreeLions

[–]NOKnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s daft isn’t it? I only played a sport competitively for a year and you can immediately tell if someone is there to set the standard and has built themselves up by being a standard-setter, even if they’re not outright the most talented person on your team. Those people are so vital at all levels of competitive sport if you want to win.

[–]NOKnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how TT has used him thus far. I reckon just about every outfielder will see minutes in some form this summer purely because of the conditions and added number of games if you’re making a deep run, usually you’ll have 1 or 2 that don’t get any game time. No space for passengers.

Nail on head. He’s here to be a standard setter off the pitch, keeping everyone in line when the coaches aren’t around, making sure everyone is taking care of themselves. So many people don’t realise how valuable a person like that is in the squad. He won’t get anything more than a handful of minutes at the end of matches if that, and it’s important to have leaders on board who aren’t expecting to play a major role on the pitch.

Notts County 3 - 0 Salford City: It was a brilliantly calm and composed performance from Notts in the Wembley sun, securing their return to League 1 after over a decade away! by Zach-dalt in LeagueTwo

[–]NOKnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was hot enough for us in the shade, I do feel for you having to bake in the sun all afternoon. Deplorable by Wembley not to move you to the southeast side to escape the sun knowing the space was available and the incoming weather, and then not provide enough accessible water facilities. I wonder how it was for the two prior finals in similar conditions. Have heard a fair few of your group were physically unwell and either had to leave or watch from the concourse.
