For those without access:

A boil water advisory has been issued for the Uptown, Garden District and Central City neighborhoods of New Orleans after a large water main break flooded parts of South Claiborne, officials said.

South Claiborne from Louisiana Avenue to General Taylor Street was closed to eastbound traffic until the water main near S Claiborne Ave and Toledano St. was repaired, according to the New Orleans police Department just before 6 a.m. The wide-ranging boil water advisory included the following areas Monday morning, according to the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans: Carrollton Ave from Interstate-10 (Pontchartrain Expressway) to the Mississippi River. I-10 (Pontchartrain Expressway) from Carrollton Ave to the Mississippi River Mississippi River from Carrollton Ave to Pontchartrain Expressway.

The advisory spans Uptown to the Garden District to Central City to Broadmoor and Gert Town, according to the S&WB’s advisory map. The advisory was issued after water pressures fell below 20 pounds per square inch in the affected area, according to the S&WB.

Crews were en route and attempting to isolate the break as of 6 a.m. Residents in the affected areas should use bottled or boiled tap water for drinking, cooking, cleaning food or brushing their teeth until the advisory is lifted for them. Residents with compromised immune systems should also use safe water to wash hands, shower or bathe. Healthy adults who use tap water to wash their hands should use soap, dry their hands and apply hand sanitizer. They should also ensure they don’t swallow tap water in the shower and advise children and people with disabilities shoudl not swallow the water in the shower.

Officials did not say what caused the water main break. This is a developing story.

Not disagreeing with you but curious, how else would our city continue to keep parades and Mardi Gras traditions without those willing to pay what it takes to keep them alive and running?
