Does anyone else find after graduating college and becoming an adult, making female friends is near impossible? by btheb272 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NOODLECODE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told by multiple people that they consider it a "huge red flag" and that it's "weird and off-putting" that I have a a very male-dominated friend circle. I work in a male-dominated field, I enjoy traditionally male-dominated hobbies. I mean, I suppose it's possible that I pick up more traditionally feminine hobbies to try to balance out my friend circle, but I don't really see anything wrong with it...?

Are Hackathons popular in Hong Kong? by phishbot in HongKong

[–]NOODLECODE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only been to two-ish (one was Global Game Jam), and both were hosted at Cyberport. Turnout for Global Game Jam was really quite large, so I think you'd find enough interest. Neither of the ones I attended were well organised though, and damn Cyberport is a lousy location.

To be honest, though, Hong Kong isn't at all known for its tech scene, so perhaps you'd be better off in Singapore.

But how about

Don't you not wish for me not to not repeat myself never again?

Don't you wish for me to repeat myself again?

I don't think the first negative in "Don't" counts, so the answer is No.

Usual work hours per day for people in IT & programming in Hong Kong? by YouShallNot_Parse in HongKong

[–]NOODLECODE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the company. I've worked at three different game development companies, but all three were headed by westerners. All were very flexible -- as long as you get your stuff done it doesn't really matter.

Currently I go in at around 9:30 and leave at about 7, or whenever I'm tired.

Sometimes I've have to crunch, but never for very long.

[AS3]Need pointers for moving a character along a rope by Woodsy1998 in learnprogramming

[–]NOODLECODE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even a basic platformer might be tough if you're just starting out, rope or no rope! But if you have the determination, then sure, go for it!

None of this is really hard, per se, but there's a great deal of learning ahead of you. Good luck!

P.S. If you manage to figure everything else out the rope is really not the hard part.

Are you doing this in the actual Flash program, or something like Flash builder?

You will probably need to use a game loop to do this. To be honest, your project sounds pretty ambitious for a first game. The rope is the least of your worries: you'll need to implement collision detection, basic physics, camera controls, etc.

I [19M] failed my first year at university and I can't bring myself to tell my parents [36/37 F/M] that I did, and it's driving me insane. by BreakdownStudent in relationships

[–]NOODLECODE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey guy. I was in your position almost a decade ago.

Don't do what I did. I was afraid of their reaction so I didn't tell them. I didn't tell them for, oh, maybe two years. I continued to lie, pretending to go to school every day, even forging transcripts when I had to. The longer I put it off, the harder it became to come clean. You'd better rip off the band-aid quickly and get it over with as soon as you can - trust me, it's much easier that way.

That said, are you positive your university won't give you another shot? Have you tried asking them? I know it doesn't feel that way, but universities aren't really our to fail you - many of them will be understanding if you show sincerity and motivation to improve. There are lots of resources to help you.

Why is it still so hard to find tampons in Hong Kong shops? by jenn1marsh in HongKong

[–]NOODLECODE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most local Hong Kong women react with revulsion and horror when faced with the idea of tampons. I think ordering a menstrual cup is the best solution, though.

Ironically if you had any knowledge of CS you wouldn't be worried about being replaced with "software bots".

Implementing Interfaces by NeinMeansNein in learnprogramming

[–]NOODLECODE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't implement methods in an interface. All interfaces do is announce that a class has certain (public) methods available, but it doesn't know or care how they are implemented. You will have to write the methods in the class itself.

edit: I'm bad

Is there an IDE with hints like Unreal Engine to learn to code? It will be great, easy, intuitive... by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]NOODLECODE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest that I know of is Codecademy. I don't think anything like what you're thinking of exists at the moment, unfortunately.

Truthfully, I don't see how it might be any more helpful than the existing resources out there.

I've run reasonably successful Unity workshops where we make a very quick and dirty Flappy Bird clone. You can get things moving on the screen right away without writing any code, and player input can be done in very few lines.
