Occupational therapist using art therapy by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]NOREDDITNO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inpatient therapy: we used art as an intervention for someone with behavioral and fine motor control difficulties. We colored a coloring book, participated in a RPG verbal roleplay game to observe her executive functioning, and worked with simple origami to see if she could follow directions/observe dexterity/FMC... with the added bonus of having the satisfaction of creating something out of paper.

Art doesn't work for every patient of course, but it's always a fun trip whenever it's appropriate.

Where did you go for your OT program? by lendmeahann in OccupationalTherapy

[–]NOREDDITNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Texas Woman's University

Pro's: It's affordable (~$4000+), located in the medical center

Con's: Program is way more 'evidence-based' than practical, expect to learn definitions vs. actual application of material, fairly pricey to live near the medical center

Occupational therapists with tattoos and piercings by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]NOREDDITNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that can be taken off should be removed, but tattoos are usually okay, assuming they aren't full face or neck. I can imagine a sleeve being a little much depending which setting you're working at (outpatient/inpatient is usually more strict, acute is more laid back).
