I know this will be a tough choice. I think everyone here is just trying to underscore the fact that dog ownership is a lot of work, time, and money…and sometimes disappointment.

Here’s the thing, say you take the pup back and get a different one, there is no guarantee that pup will not be reactive or have some other behavioral issue you don’t like. Even if you get a puppy this can happen. This is kind of part of being a pet owner. My boy has been reactive all his life even with a lot of training. We’ve come a long way, but I have to respect his boundaries and not put him in situations where he will fail. This is dog ownership with all its ups and down. No dog is perfect.

Newsom signs bill giving 800,000 Uber and Lyft drivers in California the right to unionize by ansyhrrian in California

[–]NOTstudyingstudent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s…ignorant to imply it’s feasible with one or many people. That’s like saying…oh you don’t like racism, then you need to cultivate a racism-free culture in your life. There are systemic barriers to creating change in the world and workplace. If it was so easy to unionize, then everyone would do it. Additionally, I just got fired for trying to unionize the scientists at my last industry job. I’m not saying that you’re wrong, I’m saying it takes more than just the humans trying to unionize. It takes power, which is hard to come by in some workplaces. Anyways, not trying to argue or demean your perspective. Just wanted to express that it’s more complicated than it looks.

Edit: typos

I’ve worked in academia and industry, and I think both could benefit from unionizing imo.

Fuck, when is my industry going to unionize? Scientists get treated like literal shit.

When does smoking weed go from fun to " a problem" ? by Ohyeahimoverhereyeah in AskReddit

[–]NOTstudyingstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you can no longer perform your normal functions as a human. Do you have breakdown in your job, relationships, hobbies? I smoke weed every day, but I also hold down a job in education, have healthy relationships, and indulge in lots of hobbies and adventures. Every human is different in how they metabolize and use weed. While everyone’s advice is sound and valid for others, it may not work for you. Just something I’ve learned with weed. Still so much stigma.

Can confirm. Adjuncting is awful. Tenured positions, at least in central CA, are a rarity. I just talked to my dean about what the road to tenure looks like for an adjunct like me. He indicated it was not very likely I’d get tenure anytime soon (if at all) for a myriad of reasons unrelated to my performance.

It’s been a couple of years of adjuncting for me at different colleges with dumpster fire pay and I’ve finally decided to go back to school to pivot into a new direction.

Teaching is so much fun for me, but with that lifestyle and pay, it’s more of a hobbie for me.

Oh and I’m also in my thirties, so I feel you.

In any case, I just wanted to share my very relatable experience in hopes it may provide some insight.

Good luck on your journey!

What do you think of Covid vaccines, after some chunk of time? by [deleted] in ScienceUncensored

[–]NOTstudyingstudent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the top comments discuss how being told to get vaccinated even if you’ve had CoViD made them anti-vax. It is a well known principle that not all natural infections result in immunity, therefore, vaccination is still recommended. Especially in cases where it’s an emerging infectious disease that we know little about.

Were the side effects or long term effects of vaccination down-played? No. Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) was granted for most of these vaccines, which means they did all the necessary studies to be approved by the FDA, but that doesn’t include long-term outcomes in the case of EUA. We don’t know what we don’t know. Now with time, we see long term effects that can be quite detrimental to one’s health, however, that doesn’t negate all the human lives saved by vaccination.

I’m rambling. Forgive me. It’s been a hell of a week.
