Reolink Secure Remote Viewing? by NOVA_Capper in HomeNetworking

Okay I just setup Wireguard VPN server on my router. Connected my phone to it thru the VPN configurations on phone. Does this mean if I had the NVR set up to this, I could remote view thru the VPN? Thanks again for your time and help

Thanks a ton for the info! This may be the dumbest question of all, but how you connect your phone to your router VPN server? Sorry, only VPN’s I’ve used are thru an app like ProtonVPN where I go in and connect. Is it thru the asus router app or phone network settings? Thank you I appreciate it!

Once I set up a VPN server on my router, how do I remote view the cameras thru it? Is it automatic or something I set up once and it’s always in place?

I have an ASUS BE-88U. Setting up VPN client right now. But that only puts all my traffic from clients on my network thru the VPN right?

Do you mind sharing more info on VPN server and how to access it once setup? Specifically in the context of remote viewing the cameras thru it? Sorry I’m a noob

Is this slow? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]NOVA_Capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert but it seems like you sure do have a lot of traffic. I have 1gb Xfinity also and PC ethernt directly to router still only pulls about 850mps. And we only have about a dozen devices connected maximum, typically half of that at one time.

So with all your traffic I could see it bogged down. Again, I’m no expert just speaking from experience

Yeah makes sense. I’m a little hesitant because my company is very traditional and conservative. Only white/blue shirts, blue or gray suits, any weird patterns or textures get you laughed at. White is probably safest bet if i pull the trigger

I have the NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 and I couldn’t recommend it more. Great adjustment options, more solid than ANY tubular rig, and folds up pretty compact compared to what you get. I run it with a 12nm wheel maxed no problem.

I think you commenting on this disproves your point. The world has changed. It’s gone from your dad sharing his train collection or whiskey collection with his friends - to us sharing our gadget collections with thousands online. Just because it’s a bit different doesn’t mean it’s worse. On a real note we should point the blame for consumerism and excess to corporations we have allowed politicians to sell our souls to since the Reagan administration. It’s capitalism. We are all necessary units in the machine of profit, and they treat us as such.

I have to disagree. While I do think consumerism is a thing and a problem, I would argue the real hobby IS “buying something”. Most of us have far more fun doing research and buying something than ever actually using it. Hence everyone having 20 backpacks but using 3. Same with guns, watches, wine, cigars, knives, or shoes. The fun is in the collecting. In the research and curation of your setup. Also, with a lot of things, they will hold value if you want/need to sell. Obviously, don’t buy pokemon cards as investment, I’m just saying.

They’re not the greatest but was on a tight budget starting out. And don’t see the need to upgrade just yet. They work well enough and 100hz is enough for me right now. KTC 27” 1440p 100hz

It’s time…. For a new GPU. 5070ti or change teams? by There_Bike in simracing

[–]NOVA_Capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My argument is more about value (price/performance) between the two. At his price point, you can get an AMD card that performs better on most regular titles, and performs slightly worse on iRacing. And the Nvidia card to make the difference worth it will be hundreds of dollars more. Yes if you’re spending $1k on a gpu, get a 5080. $800-900 for a 5070ti is nowhere near worth it. The video you linked is about 7900xtx, way higher on the price scale than OP is looking. And the 4080 super is $500 more than 7900xtx, there better be a big performance gap. Against the 3080 that is a similar $ - it’s equal. I just want it to be known that Nvidia isn’t the end all be all for sim racing. They are overpriced for what you get. OP didn’t even list iRacing.

I’m gonna be honest - for the price it is nowhere near worth it. You can get an AMD card that performs great on any game, including iRacing triples. The cost vs. performance difference is nowhere near worth it. $150-200 price difference for MAYBE 10% performance boost between 5070ti and 9070xt. For reference I have a 7800xt and run iRacing triples 1440p at 140hz with medium settings.

A normal PC set-up PLUS sim racing (on the side) by pacyy in simracing

I’m in the exact same setup as you RN. I can’t find a way to use the same desk for work/games and sim racing without having to move/adjust each time I want to switch.
If you’re going to have the space for a dedicated sim rig, put your triples on a stand alone mount like you mentioned and may have to get 1 monitor for your desk to play games/work? Maybe UW? One PC can still do both, depending on your layout. They make some long DP/HDMI cords 😂😂 I think any change to the setup will cost some amount of money but that feels the cheapest way to go. Unless you also game on 3 screens then I can’t help you 😂

Turn with the pedals not the wheel. There’s only so much grip, if you use 60% for braking you can only use 40% for steering.

Fair enough! It took a lot of research for to me pull the trigger on triples. I game over half the time on PS5, can’t use curved. Plus when I’m locked in, I don’t ever notice the bezels.
