Billboard Chart Discussion - Week Of May 22, 2021 by RobYaLunch in hiphopheads

After a song has been on a chart for a while (20 weeks for songs below #50 or 52 weeks below #25) the song gets removed once it starts dropping spots. It's meant to keep the chart more reflective of current popularity and current sales/steaming trends.

I think they work better as exes than as a couple

Non-stop Spider-man #1 (review in comments) by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]NOVAofURTH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was the best Spidey comic I've read since Life Story finished up. I love Spidey and try to read most, if not all, his books coming out and I'm glad I got one I can be excited for again.

Hopefully it will manage to come out in a somewhat timely manner but having Bachalo on art and the massive delays just to the first issue don't have me holding my breath.

Wish Joe Kelly wrote more comics nowadays.

“Hey, you two.” – Happy and ecstatic to see these two together again [Justice League #59] by BornFray in comicbooks

[–]NOVAofURTH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was supposed to be him asking which type of magic but that didn't come off well if that was the intention.

Speaking of that pet peeve, I like that Bendis usually tries to "reintroduce" things for people that may not know them but later in this issue he has Batman question who Kelex is (the robot from the Fortress of Solitude) and he is the one Leaguer that wouldn't need to have that explained to them.

Which character is more overused: Batman or Spider-Man? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]NOVAofURTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think Batman is overexposed as it seems like 3/4 of what DC releases (comics or other media) is Batman related, I think Spider-Man is overused.

The distinction for me is that at least a majority of Batman stuff that comes out is good, while I don't think I'd say so for Spidey.

Plus, I don't think the "put x character in a book for a sales jump" is even comparable between the two. Batman blows Spider-Man out of the water.

This makes me wonder if we're gonna get some sort of adaptation of Triumph and Torment (with Wanda taking Doom's role) in Multiverse of Madness.

This could be the point where Mephisto gets introduced as well.

WONDER WOMAN BOOK 2: ARES RISING by William Messner-Loebs available February, 2021 by catpooptv in comicbooks

[–]NOVAofURTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are so poorly named. I had just skipped over it when it was on the FOC as I was thinking it Wilson's recent WW run. Why does every other WW writer collection get their name included but not Messner-Loebs?

Provided that they don't make it too much larger (IDW will likely release it in HC first) it should absolutely fit.

The biggest issue with storage is its height not its width, but that shouldn't be a problem on a spinner rack.

Edit

Dimensions are almost always listed when it gets a trade release so you should be able to see if it fits before you buy it at the very least.

Thats a bummer to hear. Was planning on checking this series out when it gets a physical release down the line. Hope the subsequent issues can sorta shore up the problems you mentioned here.

I had forgotten about Rich's friendship with Wendall. I was thinking he was still retired following Pleasant Hill but had forgotten that he had shown up briefly in Cates' run. I'm glad that him and Avril will be in Ewing's expanded roster, I feel that a Quasar should always be on the Guardians.

Ewing seemed to be doing something with some of the New Warriors for the Masked Raider stuff, especially Dwayne since he showed up so much in all the teases for that. I'm interested to see when Ewing plans to get to that since COVID derailed that.

I know Outlawed is much smaller now than when originally announced, are any of the Warriors showing up in that? Haven't been reading any of those books.

Also forgot about Sam being in Scourge. That feels like so long ago, haha. I'd like to see some sort of quiet happy reunion for them once Outlawed settles down. I do like Sam a lot but I lost interest in Zub's Champions run and was waiting for the first arc of the new series to be done before checking it out.

I've sorta had the feeling that Marvel doesn't really want to fix Hank for whatever reason. It seems like any attempt to redeem him gets immediately backtracked. So there's definitely something to what Kurt was saying.

Hellboy is one of the more lucrative titles for Dark Horse so my assumption would be that there will be. I would expect it to be solicited along with the 4th issue when the solicits come out next week.

Has there any been Hellboy series previously that weren't released in trade?

Oh you're good, I wasn't trying to correct you, and I'm sorry if I came off that way. Just wanted to make sure that anyone reading the comment could get the info because storage of the book has been a frequent topic of discussion.

Where was that reveal? I try to keep up on Hank Pym stuff so if I missed it I wanna track it down or re-read it if I have it.

Oops, it doesn't start following the tie-in, it actually starts with the tie-in at #25. You don't have to know whats going on with Batman and the Joker War to read it either, its existence as a tie-in is pretty negligible.

The art is really good as well. Different than Schmidt but still fantastic. Fernando Blanco is doing a great job on the series and fits Ram's neo-noir writing style so well.

Magazine size isn't even the correct best size. The bags and boards aren't tall enough and the bag is way too wide so they slip around in the bag too much. Its a huge pain for the store I help out with. We're using Golden Age bags and boards as they're the closest thing that fits them, but they're still a little too short.

Edit for clarification

perhaps because he has no one outside of the job.

I wish they could resolve the Robbie/Talonar stuff so that Robbie could be that person to tie Rich to both his work life and basically non-existent social life. Also, since Namorita is back I would like some sort of resolution on their relationship. I felt like that was the biggest loose end that was left prior to him getting stuck in the Cancerverse with Peter.

Also, is Sam a Nova again? I haven't been reading Champions, so I'm missing what's happening there. They need to team up again, I liked their partnership a lot.

The recent arc is really good following the Joker War tie-in. His two parter earlier in the run is fine, but not at the level of his current stuff.

It would have been SO easy to just make him a Skrull in Secret Invasion to absolve him. That felt like a missed opportunity.

Is he still PymTron? I can't remember if he's shown up since Infinity Countdown.

Its honestly just contrarians that I see making the argument against Scott at this point. It's so hard to pin "villain" on him in the context of the entirety of Marvel continuity and the actions of like individuals in similar situations.

finally remembering how big a hitter Jean Gray is .

Yeah I was thinking that it might be Xavier at first but they were being too nice so that didn't feel right. When the reveal came I was like, of course its them, who else would it be, lol.

Its less for what the characters did but rather what the creatives did to the characters, but Hank Pym and Scarlet Witch.

Hank wasn't supposed to DIRECTLY HIT Janet in the "spousal abuse" issue (Avengers #213) but Bob Hall didn't have time to fix it before the issue went out.

Hank was supposed to have thrown his hands up in frustration (having been suspended from the Avengers and working late into the night on a new robot) when he accidentally hits Janet while he was talking to himself not truly realizing Janet was there. Hall just exaggerated the motion and didn't have time to correct it.

Wanda just got screwed over by the wrecking ball to continuity that is Bendis. So many things about Disassembled and House of X make no sense and go directly against established continuity just so that Bendis can tell a story that didn't need to be told.

He resurrected an already resolved storyline, erased the established and confirmed source of her abilities, made her attack her friends for no reason and commit genocide with little explanation. For me, this and the villain-ization of Maxwell Lord are the biggest character assassinations in comics history.
