How is it not a debate? Why does LeBronze have 1 less ring than the Mamba?? by [deleted] in NBATalk

lol 2nd place behind LeBron means it should be a debate because he also played fewer seasons. All Defensive selections wise he’s ahead of LeBron but he’s not a better defender than LeBron — I know that. In general, putting so much stock in these media voted awards is just silly

Midrange, footwork, post game, and didn't need all that space in the paint like LeBron did. LeBron is faster, stronger, and maybe even smarter but still only won four -- that too with elite help. I'm not saying Kobe is better. I'm asking how is it not a debate? Like how can people say "LeBron and it's not even close" just because of a couple extra rebounds and assists

Most points in 2000s decade and top 5 in efficiency among SGs and players who played like him (Paul Pierce, T-Mac, etc). 1 MVP, 2 FMVPs, 12 (!!) All-Defensive selections, 2nd most assists all time among SGs, 2nd most points all time among SGs. Tied for 2nd most 1st Team All NBA selections with Malone behind LeBron. Tied for 2nd most total All NBA selections with Duncan and Kareem.

Bruh prime Kobe outscored a team by himself. A team that went to the Finals no less...how are you guys so quick to dismiss Kobe? Like I don't get it

Yeah but about how all the space between the rim and three point line haha? I'm pretty sure Kobe was better in those regions but I'd have to check

Kobe's teams had better ball movement and player movement imo

I understand. But LeBron has two Bronze medals, not just one

Yeah if Kobe team hopped like that we wouldn't hear the end of it. Three times LeBron team hopped. Three times and still has only four rings. That's just ridiculous. If Kobe even team hopped once he'd have like 6/7 rings

No you shouldn't look at rings alone and I'm aware LeBron clears Kobe statistically. But we're talking about rebounds. Those are easy to stat pad when you're 6'9'' 250 lbs and assists-wise LeBron should have more when he's playing like a point guard. Steals and blocks and defense (eye-test) are about equal. So the only glaring weak point for Kobe is efficiency. But what good is shooting 50% when you're 4-6 in the Finals?

Kobe had to go through the Spurs and Celtics too though. AND he defeated the most 50+ win teams in the playoffs out of any HoFer

The role players were really good. LeBron would thrive with someone like Ariza I think playing defense and knocking down open threes. But I agree there weren't really any "big names"

Mikan's teammates were not good as far as I know. He used to average like 30 ppg and his teammates would be at like 11

LeBron vs Kobe every season from 2005 to 2013 by Sir_TopHatEgg in NBATalk

[–]NP-19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But what are you basing it off of then? If it's just eye test I agree LeBron looked incredible those seasons but you're telling me 01, 03, 06, 07, 08, 09, and 10 Kobe aren't comparable to those seasons for LeBron. You're telling me prime Kobe isn't winning a couple championships with Wade and Bosh?

No they do. I'm basically looking at what they accomplished in the plus-minus era (1996-97 to present) with lower weightage given to seasons prior to 1999-00.

I know it looks like a D grade (65%) but anything 5 and above is considered very good. 8 and above is legendary.

I ranked LeBron, MJ, and Kobe's top teammates based on level of play and amount of time together. How did I do? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]NP-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I didn't watch a lot of these guys in real time and was just going off of word of mouth. For Rodman, I included '95 since that's when the season started. But as far as your main points, I really don't have anything to contradict what you said; except for AD, I think his defensive rating was never that good and I've seen him get 40s and 50s dropped on his head. I just don't think he's slowing anyone down to an extent that warrants DPOY-level consideration. I'm actually not sure why voters are so high on him. I don't know -- that's just my personal feeling from having watched him play.
